I have no review to give as I've been sitting here for 44 minutes and haven't even been acknowledged by a server. Food might be good, I don't know, but doubt it , as it is obvious that management sucks. Once I was finally recognized I order kettle one and soda with a lime, I get tonic with lemon. Dayton restaurant week brought us here. It's the kind of cool local bar type place that you want to love but.... This place is very cool inside and out. It has a nice big bar area and two dining areas. We happened to be here on trivia night. The trivia guy was so loud we couldn't even talk to each other much during dinner. We decided to sit at the bar. They have a decent wine list. Much better than I expected and they also do a half off wine night. Their website says Wednesdays but their chalk board said Thursdays. I could see coming back for a half price bottle of wine and a little entertainment. The food bombed. My wife ordered off the menu and I chose something from the restaurant week menu. My wife got the chicken tortilla soup and a veggie wrap. The soup was more like chili though I have never had anything like it. The veggie wrap looked really good and came with a pile of fries. The wrap had so much feta cheese thats all you could taste. It was a big salty burrito with a side of cold limp fries. Eww. I ordered the 8oz filet with asparagus and a side salad with their zinfandel vinaigrette. The salad was good. The dressing was so sour thank God I ordered it on the side. My steak, ordered medium rare, was so done it had no moisture left in it. The odd thing. It also had no sear whatsoever. Wierd. It also looked like a scrap cut of some sort. The asparagus was really good. The bartender saw my steak after I cut into it and asked me to hand it to her. i didn't even have to say anything. She ordered me another one. The next one came out, still no sear at all. Cut it open and RAW and cold. I just went with it and cut around the outside. I left about half of that steak on the plate. The finale for restaurant week was the molten chocolate cake. It was dry too! haha The presentation on everything was really good. I think the "chef" should give as much attention to the basics of cooking as he does with presentation. I hate to dump on a local place but I could not recommend this place to anyone that wants to eat. If you want to drink and play trivia....cool place. Notice nowhere in the owner's comment below did he ever apologize for such a weak experience. He assures me that I am the only one that has had issue with his kitchen. HA! That's surely a joke. His bartender did bend over backwards. We didn't even have to say anything, she knew our food sucked and tried to make it right. That's why she got a $20 tip. It wasn't her fault. Based on the response from the owner I am guessing he was the one doing the cooking. That would be the only way I could imagine an owner personally attacking a customer. A very popular bar on the weekends. The place is ran pretty well and the prices are fair. The food menu is an extra plus for most people. On the weekends you will likely find a good mix of younger and older crowd as their aren't many bars downtown. They keep a solid variety on tap, but nothing too crazy extensive. read more

Who doesn't love a mom and pop's restaurant? It's been a while since I've dined at this establishment. We were there to celebrate a friends birthday. Pretzel was delicious. Tots were meh. Turkey burger was good...chicken sandwich was not great. Jalapeño jelly was interesting and could be a whole new appetizer with cream cheese. My biggest complaint was the unwillingness to accommodate the simplest of requests. We asked to have sandwiches cut in half so that we could taste and share. The kitchen wouldn't accommodate the request according to our server. I feel as if most fast food restaurants would accommodate if they had the tools/knife. read more

I've been here several times recently because the food and beer are amazing. However, I'm always disappointed in the service. Several times I've brought friends but they have all been turned off by the slow and often inattentive service. It's embarrassing to talk a place up and then have them be so disappointed. Stopped by for lunch, had appetizers! Fried pickles were hot and crispy, make sure you ask for the malt vinegar ranch for dipping sauce, it was fabulous! We were very happy with this restaurant. We came to the restaurant after the Thomas the train experience. Although their regular crowd doesn't involve kids, the staff was very accommodating and went above and beyond to make sure our group (which included 7 kids under 7) was served promptly and all our other needs were met. Took 10 minutes to be seated. At least a dozen employees walked past us. Ordered our beers and it took 10 minutes to get those. Ordered our food and appetizer. Took an hour to get our food...appetizer came with the main course. Seems like this place is poorly managed...our server was nice and seemed busy but the whole staff seems disorganized. read more

My husband and in-laws have been to Doc's Place, terrible experience in the past. Well, my husband was telling us how the place was bought back by the original owner and thought it was a good idea to give the place another chance. We went in last night, just for a few drinks. It was 11:20pm. The two men behind the bar were rude!! My husband ordered a couple of beers and the Sangria for my sister-in-law and myself. They tasted like vinegar. My husband returned them to the bar. THE BARTENDER TASTED MY DRINK!!!! He then stated..."taste like Sangria to me"!! RUDE!! RUDE!! They were also cleaning up and sweeping!! My husband asked what time they closed and the bartender stated "when the place is empty"!! The door read 12:00. He then preceded to tell my husband about another location that was "the place to be" (not his exact words) some place is Oregonia on the water or river. Poor Management or understaffed?? If I could give a negative rating I would!!! Waited 15 minutes to be seated on a non busy Saturday. Once we were seated the server greeted herself, yeah she was friendly but then went down hill. We ordered 2 beers, 1 appetizer and 2 dinners at the same time. 10 minutes later beers arrive and 1 hour later our appetizer and dinners arrive. During our wait we noticed the cook running food to several tables. Our server pasted by not taking the time if we wanted another beer etc. The poor service couldn't make up for the tasteful food. Our server recognized that the service wasn't upto par so she offered to take off the appetizer. I enjoy giving our money to local businesses if the service and food our worth the visit. Went here on a sunny, warm winter Sunday and sat on outside porch with pups. Service excellent. I had a Doc burger with vegetables and it was cooked perfectly. Husbands had a rueben with fries. Very good. Highly recommend this restaurant. read more

If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. Poorly staffed, terrible service. The bar is swarming with insects, there is insect repellent and traps sitting out for anyone to see. (Illegal?) The menu is small, over priced and half of it is usually unavailable. I was at the bar watching a game when the "manager" came behind the bar to pour his own drinks and change the channel, I said I was watching that and the guy raised his voice, "ARE YOU TALKING TO ME? YOU GOT SOMETHING TO SAY? SPEAK UP" the entire room heard him, all eyes on me. How embarrassing. The bartender apologized and directed me to the owner but seeing as he was sitting right behind me watching the situation and chose not to intervene, I will be taking my business anywhere else. read more

I found this place by chance 5 years ago after the Warren County Fair and loved it. I've attempted to find it in the past but unfortunately never did. Today, luckily, we found this hidden treasure. Wings were great! And if you can handle HOT!!! Try the Satan's sweat sauce. He order the monstrous heart attack burger and I had the turkey avocado burger switched to beef. Amazing! Stopped by Docs on a Tuesday night for quick bite. Cold beer and a "Jake special pulled pork" sandwich. One of the best pulled pork sandwiches I have ever had. Just the right amount of sauce, pork was tender and a lot of it and the cole slaw on top nailed it. Two ladies with me as well. One also had the pulled pork and enjoyed it very much. My mom, sister and I dined at Doc's on 5/12 for the Girls' Night Out event. Even with a limited menu, they didn't seem prepared for the volume of guests. The best things about the visit were the location and the server. My mom and sister ordered the fried chicken sandwich but were able to get it grilled. I ordered the tilapia sandwich without tarter. After waiting about a half hour, the server apologized and said "We're backed up." We over heard that same statement said to multiple tables. After waiting more than 45 minutes, both pieces of chicken were very tough and couldn't be eaten. The fish was too done and not flavorful and came with tarter. I had to eat it off the sandwich. All fries were cold. We also overheard them say they were out of celery and the only fish on the menu, tilapia. Although they had feta cheese, my sister was told she couldn't have any on a salad "because it's portioned out for other dishes." The manager was kind enough to take off the two chicken sandwiches. I traveled here to surprise my mom for Mother's Day; I won't be returning to Doc's during my next visits. read more
