Doc's Oyster Bar in Valparaiso... Meh. Checked out Doc's on a Monday night for dinner, as the reviews were nearly all 5 stars... While it wasn't bad, I didn't think it lived up to all the hype. Doc's has a prime location right on an inlet and has super chill beach bar vibes, but I'd call it more of a run down local dive bar... Not anything wrong with that, but not really my thing. The food was alright ($15 for 6 oysters the size of a dime was laughable), they have a good draft beer selection, and the service was really friendly... Albeit I didn't like the service model though - No servers, you had to go to the counter to order both food and drinks. I can see this place being slammed on the weekend and service being a complete nightmare. All-in-all, not bad but not my favorite place in town either... If you like a local dive bar with decent food and well-priced drinks, check out Doc's.

Oyster dive bar near the base. Great ambience, and good oysters. You place all orders with the bartender and they bring you food to you. Thursday nights are karaoke nights.

Been there three times and the fresh shucked oysters never disappoint. Staff is friendly, drinks are nice and cold. The scenery is awesome. Can't wait to visit again.

The last time I was in this area, I loved this place. It has a cozy old bayou feel with a multi level deck over looking the water. Parking really sucks. You order at the bar and the food is brought out to you by a number. They have added a new bar space with makes it bigger. The interior is all sea based with lobsters, big spear fished fish and even a big ole shark. The oysters were good. The Mahi Tacos were good. I had Doc's beer which was not my favorite. They have a decent selection of bourbon. It was trivia night so it was getting crowded as I left.

5/5, no complaints. I was in town for a few days and decided to get take out my last night. Great decision! I got the blackened fish basket. Good amount of fish and the sauce is amazing. Next time I'm in town I'll be eating here again. Hard to beat it for the flavor and you can beat it for the price.

There are great views at this quaint water-front oyster bar. You order from the counter, are given a number, and can sit wherever you like. We had a dozen raw gulf oysters as well as grilled. Prices are pretty fair, and they have a happy hour on drinks

On business travel on Father's Day so tough sledding on a Sunday and finding somewhere open. I had targeted Doc's from the start as I love fresh seafood and wanted see what they had to offer! First off the directions were a hair off if using Yelp app. Took me to the establishment right next to Doc's. From the outside, it is definitely a dive bar but a cool location right next to water. The weather was crazy hot even at 7:30 so I decided to venture inside to place my order and grab a seat - picture is pretty neat. My Yuengling was fresh and served icy cold! I decided to skip the oysters as I had no idea what they looked like... I went with the Fried Green Tomatoes and the Mahi Mahi fish basket. Loved the bang bang sauce on the tomatoes. The fried baby shrimp were also a different touch. The tomatoes were fresh and thick cut so it played well and loved the added hot sauce I threw on. My main order was the Mahi Mahi which I ordered blackened. Order came with a spicy ranch and two hush puppies with fries. The fish was absolutely awesome. Flaky and seasoned well. The fries and the hush puppies were also great. Definitely could need finish everything. While sitting at the table, I was able to see the flame broiled oyster and knew I would be back for a quick lunch before heading to the airport. I tried the oysters three ways. The tequila lime cilantro, the jerk with rum butter and the three cheese with jalapeños! I honestly loved them all. Hope my ventures on business brings me back to the Eglin area! Enjoy the pics...

The food was very good. Had the sampler oysters to start and they were all very delicious. I also tried the smoked tuna dip and it was excellent. Very Smokey and found out it's smoked in house. For my main entree had the grilled mahi-mahi and it was exceptional. The only downside to place was you had to order everything at the bar and then find a seat somewhere to eat. The views were great outside, so definitely recommend eating outside. Overall, a great dive choice. It may not look like much, but it's definitely worth a stop. read more

Just went back (the grossly underestimated remodel finally complete) and ordered a shrimp poboy. It only had 8 shrimp and was on a large roll. Looks like shrinkflation has found it's way to Docs. However, and to be fair, my wife's fish sandwich was plenty big, a much better value. Both the shrimp and fish tasted kind of oniony. I really wish restaurants had dedicated fryers for fries, fish, and onion rings. The lady taking the food orders from the long line snaking through the main dining area where people sitting down are almost touching the people standing in line, is also the bartender. That makes ordering food take a long time, and even more annoying when all you want is another beer and you have to get in the back of the line. read more

One of my favorites in the area! The local food is excellent. I love the waterside atmosphere and view. I suggest eating outdoors on the covered deck when the weather is nice. it's not uncommon to see dolphins surfacing in the bayou from the outdoor dining area. We have always had great service there as well. Doc's is a local favorite so it does get a little crowded at times but the service team seems to handle the pressure well. read more

Great casual place for a meal. We visited for a late lunch, it's off-season so no issues in finding table for our group of 9. Parking in front is tight, maybe 10 cars but you could park in the building next door and walk over. It's a place where you line up and place orders at the counter and they'll bring the food out to you. We got some good raw oysters then tried out all of their tacos versions, all were good but the soft shell crab and fish were the group's favorites. The sides (fries & onion rings) were excellent as well. Definitely worth a visit when in the area. read more

it's always fun to go to Doc's. Been taking a baby, now 8 months old, since she was 2 months. Everything always goes smoothly and the food never disappoints. Super laid back atmosphere. Great view of tranquil waters. Got fried green tomatoes. They threw in a few lightly fried shrimp. Peel and eat shrimp and fish tacos. All was very good for pub food. Doc's is my favorite local hangout for seafood! The staff is wonderful and always welcoming--they treat everyone like family! We try to make it for Bingo nights with Mindy. She is awesome and we have such a great time! The food is always fresh and tastes great! You can't beat the shrimp that is fresh, local seafood that's just off the boat. read more

The outside doesn't look great but inside was very nice. I ordered the po-boy shrimp sandwich and my wife got the fish tacos. We enjoyed both very much. My wife loved the fries and she usually won't eat them. We will come back again. Give it a try for yourself read more

First time here, the location has temporarily moved to the other restaurant attached to the same parking lot while the original location is under construction. Order at the bar and seat yourself. The burger was decent, there was a good char to the burger, slightly overdone, overall good flavor and the bacon was really crisp. Oysters were awesome, both raw and flame grilled! Mixed review. Food and service is always great at Doc's. Tonight was the first time I've ordered a mixed drink and as a former bartender and restaurant owner I was terribly disappointed. Two shots of water, splash of OJ ( fake Triple sec) and bar mix - does not a margarita make! I'm not talking watered down tequila here; I'm saying NO TEQUILA or Triple Sec at all! I'll not waste another nickel in a drink here, but I'll enjoy the food. I'm not a big drinker nor do I drink often, but my palate isn't dead and I can tell when my drink doesn't contain any liquor. Ambiance was that of a restaurant with only 3 tables of diners. I know the bartender thinks he got away with it, but it cost him/them a nice tip. Owner should be aware that this is happening. I'm sure his liquor costs are low as they should be. Shrimp baskets were great. read more

My new favorite place to hang out in Val-P. When you think of what a southern style bayou "oyster shack" should feel like (especially when you want to just be casual and grab a few beers and maybe some oysters on a sunny...or stormy North Florida day) this is it. Situated right on the edge of Tom's Bayou with indoor/outdoor seating and views of the water. It's a great casual place to hang out with friends.. while simultaneously watching some sports and the dolphins cruise by in the bayou. The food is pretty good and the prices reasonable. read more

Love Doc's. I highly recommend the Dockafeller oysters. We greet them almost every time we go. You could probably turn the larger portion into a meal. Their fish tacos are amazing, and I've never had a meal here that wasn't really delicious. I do wish they had brewed sweet tea, but we add sugar. The staff is always very friendly and gets the food served quickly even when they are full. Love eating by the water at night. It's a great casual date night location. read more

Can't wait to go back. We're relocating to the Shalimar area in a few weeks. When we go down there from Birmingham, we stay in the Niceville/ Valparaiso area while we complete some renovations on our house. We visit Docs every time, sometimes multiple times in a trip. Oysters were great! We drove from Destin though so it was about 50 minutes away.. Yelp says it's $9.99 but they are $14.99 for a dozen. Probably would have went somewhere closer in that case, but the view was different and place was fun! read more

Once again, the food is delicious and the service is amazing!! Got the BamBam Shrimp tacos tonight, they were delicious! Especially with Rene sweet and spicy sauce on them. The hush puppies, as usual, were AMAZING! The fish and chips were also so good! My man gets those every time and he never has anything bad to say about them! We tried the fried pickles tonight, and they were some of the best we've had! Last time we also had the tuna dip, and it was really good. Delicious green tomatoes and the shrimp was very good. I wouldn't recommend the soft shell crab sandwich just because it's a little hard to get down. The vibe is great aside from the humidity if you're a curly haired girl like me haha. Definitely worth checking out, especially for the live music. read more

Gray atmosphere, love music, cool bar. Good was all good EXCEPT the oysters. My wife and I are oyster lovers and there are a lot of great oyster places around the area. This was these were the worst oysters we have had in a long time. The other food was good, but it was just kind of typical bar food. My advice is to come here for the atmosphere and the bar food but if you are looking for oysters go somewhere else. read more

I stepped outside and called Amex who verified the charge had posted, went back in to tell her (Kaley? Kelsey who claims she is a manager) and she still refused to give me my coffee that I paid for, even after showing her proof! Completely stole my money and horrible customer service. All over a $5 coffee. We planned on our extended family all dining there the majority of the week but not anymore! Frauds!

Doc's Oyster Bar has a killer view -- right on the water, which definitely sets the mood. The oysters were fresh and full of flavor, but a few came out way overcooked. Like, borderline cremated. That said, the rest of the meal was solid, and the atmosphere made it worth the stop. Just hoping they keep a closer eye on the grill next time because we'll definitely be back! The best shrimp Po boy sandwich I have ever had here in Florida. I've tried many places but this still takes the cake. The shrimp is so good and the bread is tasty. They put it on the grill which gives it that yummy grill taste. The fries are also amazing! They have great seasoning and crispness on them. My family and I love their food. What a hole in the wall local find should be! Margaritas on the rocks and fish tacos are consistently delicious. Fried pickles make a great appetizer. Drink specials for military. Great views (sans construction). Parking can be tight. read more
