If you find yourself on the north end of Elgin Air Force Base in Tom's Bayou, do stop in to Doc's, voted best Dive Bar on Yelp. One of my personal favorites, Fried Green Tomatoes, is on the menu but if you're also an oyster fan you need to get the Oyster BLT! Great local dive. Even though calling it a dive isn't quite correct considering the clientele. Waking into it, it's a dive. Order at the register. Grab a number and find a place to sit. (Outside is nice and if you get lucky might see a dolphin). The staff was fast and friendly. I was there for lunch so no idea what dinner looks like. I enjoyed fresh oysters and fish tacos and both were good. The oysters were impressive, big and meaty. We went for lunch and sat outside. It was very nice. Had the soft shell crab sandwich and the shrimp po boy. We also ordered the soft pretzel and the boiled peanuts. The pretzel was decent. While in town for vacation, family suggested going to Doc's which is on Tom's Bayou. Really small parking lot (may need to park next door at now closed down restaurant), construction going on at Doc's (expanding into two buildings with even more seating area). Place order at the counter with counter staff being polite and making great suggestions. Multi level seating over looking Tom's Bayou with a nice wind, ordered fried shrimp, popcorn shrimp, fried Mahi Mahi, onion rings and sooo many french fries come with the meals. Prices are reasonable, could used a little more attention to the tables by wait staff especially since the receipts are asking for a 20% tip with minimal service. Mad rush times are at lunch and dinner with quieter times being around 11 am and mid afternoon. Look forward to returning on our next visit. read more

You won't find a more solid oyster shack in the area! We absolutely LOVED Doc's Oyster Bar and visited multiple times during our vacation. In my option, Doc's takes the prize over any of the "five-star" restaurants and fine dining establishments in and around Destin- we tried many of them and were highly disappointed. This is the ONLY place that we did not receive sandy oysters while visiting the area. The fried crab sandwich was fresh and delicious as well. The craft beer selection was nice, and dinner was accompanied by live music on certain nights. The casual atmosphere was highly enjoyable and the staff were attentive and friendly. I saw that they had happy hour oysters and I am always looking for a deal. Arrived and felt right at home. Looks like some old fishing shack from the outside, just a cool place to hang out. One of our favorite places to eat. Great food and vibe. Great service and drinks. Love the views. Highly recommend. Their main venue is currently undergoing renovations, yet they seamlessly pivoted to their event venue location right next door to continue serving up their menu to customers until the renovations are done, probably by late summer/early Fall. Their venue location is also a great spot, yet it doesn't have the same water views as their main venue, but the elevated outdoor seating area is still great, and we still enjoy eating there on a regular basis.
