We came here for dinner while on vacation. The decor, vibe, and music (jazz) doesn't fit the theme of the menu. The food was good, but not great. The royal reds that I ordered were extremely hard to peel. The snow crab was difficult to get the meat out of too. They give you a pair of scissors instead of shell crackers, but even that didn't help. My son's chicken fingers were amazing, he said. Service was great and prices were reasonable. Overall, we came for the seafood but the difficulty level of peeling it made the experience less than great, so I don't think we would come here again. My husband and I have been fans of Old Bay Steamer since it was in an old gas station type building on 98. We've always love it. However the last 3 or 4 times we've been it has been less desirable. We always do one of the steamers. Most recently we did the basic steamer with snow crab and royal reds. The Shrimp were over cooked and the crab was a mix of good and under cooked. Salad was 10 out of 10 and the garlic butter bread with mushrooms was also 10/10. We love the vibe and service of Old Bay. Our server was Amazing. I hope they step up their game. read more

Old Bay Standby should be it's name, as it's always consistent and the staff aims to please. If you walked instead of driven, have a Strong Island Iced Tea, and as the menu says, it's one per person, as that's all you'll need. The snow crab were delicious as was the salad that the table shared. The only disappointment were the crab cakes as they had pieces of shell in them. Yes, this means they're fresh, but it wasn't much fun picking pieces of shell out of my mouth. The drink menu is great, with a lot of different martinis to choose from. The bartenders are always pleasant and the jazz music is pretty cool. Downstairs is super casual while upstairs is very pretty and more quiet and laid back. This is the 2nd year in a row that my friend group has gone to Fort Walton together and made sure to purposely schedule a night to go to Old Bay Steamer. The food just NEVER disappoints. Obviously good seafood is found in a lot of places in Florida, but everyone in our group always agrees on this being the best we've had in any of the cities or states we've lived in. Don't skip on this place while you are in town. It's located without a view of the water which i was disappointed about until i had the food. Wow is all i can say. This was my second visit. The food is good and the portions are large. The steamer pot for 2 fed 3 of us and coils have fed a 4th of we got extra sides. The service was good. We ate upstairs and the vibe is pretty cool. One complaint I have is I wish the tables were larger. You end up with a large platter, plates, drinks, discard bucket, etc all on the table. Set aside from having to wait until dinner, 100% worth the wait. Family of 3 went on a Wednesday at the start of summer got seated right away. Waitress was awesome and knew her menu. We had the shrimp fettuccini and jumbo steamer for 2 which could have easily been for 4! The place is dark which made it easier to focus on your own company since the place is very noisy. The lobster melts in your mouth and the vegetables (corn & red potatoes) were perfectly cooked as well. We had reds with heads on and I wouldn't recommend eating shrimp any other way when possible. The seared sea scallop topped with mango salsa is to die for! The raw oysters were HUGE! We normally like the smaller ones but these were so fresh, it didn't matter. Their internet menu is designed pretty badly with how the drop down menu works. Ordered something under a fried plate section and was told it was just an appetizer when I arrived. The host clearly didn't care whatsoever. Pointed it out and showed him why it would be confusing to someone and he then just went back to doing what he was doing without saying a word or offering any type of apology. First impression It smells like fish as soon as you enter. It can be a bit overwhelming if you don't necessarily like the smell. When you sit down you get placemats but plastic cups for drinks. The Menu Well, this is an expensive place. Great for anniversaries and birthdays. Timing 1 minute to get drink orders 2 minutes to get drinks and place food orders 5 minutes for salad 20 minutes for entrees The Dishes I ordered the fettuccine alfredo with chicken since I didn't feel like fish or shellfish tonight. I received a lot of chicken on top of a few noodles. The menu should have the word chicken in all caps. Very delicious. The salad was wonderful. I love it when it comes with cucumbers and carrots. The salad wasn't soaked in dressing like most salads, either. It was a perfect balance. My sister got the fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp. "It was good. I don't know, I feel like... I don't know. It's very filling is the best way to put it." My parents shared The Basic Steamer for two. "Delicious. Tasty. Plenty of food. Could feed three." My sister said "messy; be prepared to wash your hands. Come with loose pants." There are paper towels on every table just in case. They also provide warm finger bowls with water and lemon to wash your hands at the end of your meal. We hoped for fresh seafood but we were very disappointed in both the quality of the seafood as well as the staff. I ordered the shrimp steamer and my husband ordered the lobster steamer. We also ordered the crab stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer. The shrimp was definitely not fresh from the gulf. They were basically tasteless with bits of sand. They were so bad, I only ate half of them. My husband's dinner was also not good. Stuffed mushrooms were horrible. I founds pieces of the shell. I'm guessing the only business this restaurant is getting is from the hotels in the area. Very disappointed. read more
