So as a starter, yes the Bourbon list is long, and they have most everything. They make an excellent Old Fashioned. I have my own Bourbon cabinet, and make a lot of them, so I am not happy when they can't. The Oysters are great, northeast not gulf. Gulf oysters are huge, and what I see at home usually, but these smaller northeast are a great change of pace. The wings were excellent, my client wanted the southern white sauce, it's a touch sweet for me, but for what it is, was very good. I had the shrimp and grits. Now, you need to know, they have a broth on top. So it's got this very flavorful broth that it's almost like a shrimp and grits large bowl. I thought it was excellent, added amazing flavor, but had almost a soup type to it, used a spoon. If you don't like that, may be an issue. My client had the fried pork chops, and he said it was excellent. Looked excellent. As far as a Louisville, Whiskey row type place, you can't do much better. I will point out, on my 2nd Old Fashioned, I asked for a touch less sweet, because I go between these and just Bourbon Rocks, so I like my second one to be that. read more

This was our first meal when we arrived in Louisville. I didn't realize it was attached to the full-service restaurant. So keep that in mind when you're trying to figure out which place to enter. They both have the same menu but this one has the bar. We went to the bar, and they were letting kids sit at the bar to eat dinner with their parent (I presume) so that was a little odd. We sat at a high top and the bartender served us when they had time. I know it was busy so that probably wasn't the best choice we ordered cocktails and they were fine. We decided to share the smokehouse sampler and it was plenty of food for the two of us. I regret to write this review because I want to like this restaurant. This is the second time in three years and the experience. The building and the ambiance are the highlights. The service and the food are not. The back house is slow. This causes food to be delivered intermittently. On two occasions dinner has been served room temperature after presumably waiting on the counter. I was hopeful dessert would save the experience but was disappointed by the creme brulee. It was liquified with burnt sugar crust. Again, given the location and bourbon selection I had high hopes. I would only return for a drink. Find somewhere else for dinner. read more

This place is an absolute dream come true. 2600+ bottles of whiskey available, 1oz taster pours or 2oz full pours, tons of ainge barrel picks and an endless variety of stuff to try for every budget, including nearly impossible to find picks (although you'll pay a premium for those). For food we ordered the porkrinds and crab cakes to start, I had the BBQ sampler with a side of Mac and cheese, my wife got the burger which was also great, and we finished the meal with some bread pudding (amazing!) It's VERY rare I wish Yelp had a half star option, but this is one of those incidents. This place was better than okay, but not quite top tier for me. Anyway, my wife has been wanting to go here for some time and given the opportunity for her birthday, here we are. The drink menu is pretty on point. All sorts of offerings. I don't drink, so I can't comment on the quality or even the selection really. My wife originally ordered something from the "old menu" that they no longer serve. Why the "old menu" was still on the table, beats me. Our table of four loaded up on appetizers: we got oysters, muscles, heap of chips, and an order of crab cakes. Oysters were ok, if you're into that sort of thing. Muscles were good, and everyone raved about the sauce they came in. We had more bread brought just to soak it up. The heap of chips were loaded with pulled pork and brisket, amongst other things, and by far, my favorite thing I had. Heard the crab cakes were kind of dry, and not that impressive. I got shrimp and grits, and well---nope. Kind of runny. Just kind of lacking overall for me. Not sure they are deserving of their crowd favorite annotation. Two orders of salmon, and well they received a 50% rating at the table. Wife's catfish dinner was eaten without complaints and the hush puppies that came with were pretty darn good. The key lime pie was, well, bland. Too much crust and not enough key lime flavor. Birthday cookie was good, but really, it was just a chocolate chip cookie with some vanilla ice cream. Cool spot downtown, friendly staff, and it has the potential to be a really good restaurant. Hubby made reservations for both of us for dinner last night at Doc Crow's and they sat us in here! We are so lucky to sit inside the back part of this restaurant while the front is being readied for opening very soon. Love the floating shelves up high showcasing all their alcohol in alphabetical order (except their scotch). Started off with a couple cocktails. Hubby the old fashioned and I had the mint julep lemonade. Both were very good but a bit pricy. For our meal: Hubby ordered the Nashville hot chicken (did not come with any side). A bit under cooked but hubby ate it anyway. I ordered the fried pork chops with mashed potatoes and extra sausage gravy. Delicious!!! I would order this again. Oh wow! Came in to try some local bourbons and get some food and I'm glad we did. The bartenders behind the bar were super helpful and friendly. We ordered a few drinks and then got some food. I went with the spicy chicken and it was absolutely delicious! The flavor was great, the crust on the chicken was perfect, and it was a great portion of food as well (with the chips you get I promise you won't leave hungry). Stopped into Doc's for a lunch with our work team. Looked like they were at near capacity judging by the table occupancy. Our server greeted us promptly got our drink order and gave an appropriate amount of time to look over the menu. Most of the table ordered the oyster po-boy which looked great overloaded with fried oysters and shrimp. I got the pulled pork platter with braised greens. I ate everything but the bread. I'm sure it was good, I'm just watching my carbs. It was a great experience at lunch. Walking out we observed a very extensive wall of bourbon. Really cool spot that's opened up on Whiskey Row! We need more coffee shops downtown. My sister and I parked just a block down and walked over here. It wasn't very busy around 1:45 on a weekday. Staff is fantastic and know their stuff when it comes to bourbon and coffee! They sell baked goods too if you're hungry. They serve small plates which I heard are very good. We only came for the coffee though. I got a lavender latte with oat milk and my sister got a maple latte. Delicious! They use oat yeah, which is Silk's oat milk. My favorite brand! Prices are a little elevated but it's no issue to me. Seems like a great place to hang out anytime of the day. I hope to return soon! read more

A group of 6 of us stopped in for dinner and drinks Saturday night. We waited about 15 minutes for our table to be ready. Docs Bourbon Bar does take reservations with OpenTable. The hostess took my cell phone number and they text when the table is ready. While waiting for our table we sat at the bar. Our bartender, Baker, was amazing! Baker was so friendly and made delicious cocktails. Matt and I both enjoyed the seasonal Old Fashioneds. We were seated at a table in the middle of the restaurant. The restaurant is in a long slender space with bourbon and whiskeys lining the walls. Docs Bourbon Rooms has over 2000 different bourbons & whiskeys. Our waitress Chelsea arrived to our table with a device to take our order. Sadly there were no roasted Brussels left and we only got 1 order of the fresh baked pretzels. My favorite was the fingerling poutine which came out in a little cast iron pan and had gooey cheese with delicious chile vedre salsa. We also tried the chicken wings and the bar snack flight. The bar snack flight was small portions of Nashville hot popcorn, house chex mix and herb-roasted nuts. During our meal Akiah kept popping in on us to make sure we had everything we needed. The entire Saturday night staff was so friendly and accommodating. Thank you Baker, Chelsea and Akiah for an amazing first experience at Docs Bourbon Room. We will see you again soon! read more

I got the Ceaser salad, it's sold for about 10 dollars with a large serving. The chicken isn't crispy, but it's cooked well. But I will say, the croutons were amazing. They has a good flavor to them and didn't explode when ever I tried to get the with my fork. The salad part was good, no odd or old pieces inside of it. Over all, very good food wise. The building is very large, with an assortment of many different types of drinks. The waiters are very kind and have a great and speedy service. The buildings vibes are very on pointe with the name. Checkout Doc's Bourbon library - beautiful, rustic display of over 3000 bourbons. I dined twice while in Louisville, once for breakfast (biscuits and sausage gravy because you have to in the "south") and once for dinner (fried chicken because you have to in the "south"). A solid, respectable, happy 4* from me. Came here first with DH after a visit to the World Fest event. We wanted a bit of bourbon, but the bar was closed so we had to go through the restaurant - but they ended up seating us in the hallway to the bar, all alone, so win/win already. The bourbon was from next door (if you know, you know) and the oysters were fresh and plump. We had a great time and planned to go back. Fast forward a bit, and I found myself looking for a place for me and 5 guests from exotic places like Mississippi and Canada (and the UK)! We walked in, expecting a huge wait, and put ourselves on the list. 25+ minutes, they said. We started walking along, looking at a few other options, when my phone buzzed (5 minutes later?). Hustled back and were taken to a nice table in the back by the window. I enjoyed the grilled cheese and tomato soup - be aware, the soup is THICK, and a bit chunky. We also split an order of oysters. Others got a variety of dishes - and several of the apps are plenty shareable with large groups. While I enjoyed my second meal here, I know some guests were hoping for something a bit different. Overall, still a good place to go and I will be returning, but would be one more * if it was slightly more local and slightly less touristy/trying hard to be "everything to everyone". read more
