This is the second time coming here as we don't get here often. They have authentic upper peninsula pasties. The dine in area has a few tables. They sell frozen pasties which are bagged in various quantities. This is a given stop everything we come to Escanaba.

First time trying some UP pasties and can't say I will seek them out again based on this experience. We got the recommended beef with gravy and a pizza to go, along with a frozen ham and cheese and a breakfast pasty to bake the next morning. We just found the flavors to be a little lacking overall. The gravy did help on the beef but the pizza was super heavy on the tomato sauce and hardly had any meat. Crusts were ok. We baked the frozen ones the next morning and they took way longer than their instructions specifically said. Ended up microwaving them at the end. The ham and cheese was decent but again the breakfast one seemed lacking - would have benefitted from some salsa or hot sauce. Service was friendly. Inside is basic space with fluorescent lighting.

It's a simple thing. A baked pastry filked with vegetables and meat. It's comfort food no more no less. You can add on chips and a drink but the 3/4 lb or 1/2 lb pasties are very filling. It's an order at the counter operation for here or to go. There's nothing fancy about the place. You can pick up UP souvenirs and special snacks.

Look nice but so dry, too much crust.

Vacationed in the area. Really was disappointed. Guy was not real friendly, we felt rushed. Ordered Ham & Cheese, very dry when eating. I ordered chicken, very dry, too much crust & didn't even taste or see chicken. Ordered Vegetarian pasties, again dry, hardly tasted or could see vegetables. All need much more flavor. Gravy bought on the side. Not good at all. Very Disappointed.

When you are in the UP, you have to get a pasty. These were good quality pasties with decent flavor and fresh. They have options in half pound or three-quarter pound varieties. We tried both ham and cheese and beef. The beef is more popular but a little heavy on the potatoes for my taste. I actually preferred the ham and cheese. Staff is friendly and casual environment. Some indoor seating, but most take their food to go.

You can't come to the Michigan Upper Peninsula withput trying a pasty. This was the first pasty shop that we visited in Escanaba. It was excellent. The server was very personable and efficient. However, in the early day, they were already out of chicken pastys. The seating area was sufficient but nothing special. We enjoyed our meal and our first introduction to pasties. Next trip to Escanaba, we will definitely return. Thanks for being open on a Sunday!

When one visits the UP, one eats some pasties. Dobber's Pasties offers a menu that can please traditionalists and vegetarians alike. They offer 7 different varieties for take out or on site eating. Their veggie pasty is a 3/4 lb. beast with cheddar cheese, potatoes, carrots, celery, rutabaga, onion and salt and pepper with cream of mushroom sauce. It was very good and filling. I enjoyed it so much I bought some frozen ones to bring home with me. My friend enjoyed his beef pasty as well. The crust was good, but a little dense, especially at the edges. But kudos for thinking outside the classic box. Service was friendly.

I've tried this Upper Peninsula delicacy at a number of locations. I put Dobber's Pasties in the Top 2! Nothing special about this place, couple of tables, a cooler with some bottled drinks and a freezer full of pasties for the take home crowd. A small counter separates the customer from some big iron ovens where the magic is made fresh each day! It may be pretty basic, but as far as taste, this place is a winner. I've tried most of their flavors and I like the beef or the ham and cheese best. But everything was good. They even sell dry ice for the vacation traveler who might have a long trip home!

Being from under the bridge, we knew we had to stop for some true pasties. Didn't disappoint and the guy at the counter was pleasant and friendly. Thanks! three trolls

Beef pastie is 95% potato. No other noticeable vegetables. Beef was almost non-existent.

Stopped by to try a pastie while in the UP in Escanaba. I ordered 2 beef pasties which the person said was their specialty. Dobber's pasties were a real disappointment. 1) they had them sitting on top of the oven already bagged and were only lukewarm at best. No effort to make them fresh or heat it up for a minute or two in the oven. 2) the pastie is 95% potato and contained very very little beef and no other vegetables I could see. (See pic). What beef they do use is this shredded meat I couldn't say was actual beef. They should call their pasties "potato" pasties because that's all that's inside.

Inside of Dobber's Pasties..eat in or carry out.

No? Nobody? Just me? Damnit. The silver lining? A wonderful breakfast meal and cheap to boot! Since I realized I'm part idiot (and not the good part), I decided to eat breakfast at my accidental restaurant. Mostly because I was already sitting in the booth and did NOT want to admit defeat. And boy howdy, am I glad I did! I ordered the French toast, eggs, and bacon. Two toasts, two eggs, and about three bacons. And a breakfast Coke (which is normal coke, but in the morning). First off, the eggs. I only eat scrambled eggs because I'm a child. Salt and pepper, then into my mouth. I don't like creamy scrambled eggs and I don't like scrambled eggs that get that weird skin on them for cooking too long. These ones were perfect. I garbled them down. My trick is to heavily salt and pepper them THEN cut them up and mix them together to disperse the seasoning. Eggs 10/10 The French toast? Perfect. Good size slices, a ball of butter on top (thankfully enough to spread over all four triangles), and a ramekin of syrup. They were the perfect portions. The FT (French toast) had the best sponginess and fluffiness. French Toast (FT) 10/10 Finally. The bacon. Look. I am a huss for bacon. I'll do some shady sh** for some good bacon. But I ain't going back to prison. I always ALWAYS request my bacon be floppy. Some places call it limp. I call mine floppy. Because I'm a professional. A lot of places struggle on what floppy should look like. I've had floppy bacon I could put through a plate glass window. I've broken a piece of floppy bacon on a table edge and shanked somebody (see prior prison comment). But here? This place? Sweetie pie, I could tie my shoes with this bacon it's so floppy. I could lasso a baby calf with this floppy a** bacon. If you don't believe me, I attached a photo of what floppy bacon should look like. Professional Floppy Bacon 12/10. I would also like to mention the Coke this place served was top tier. It's like it's chilled prior to coming out the fountain dispenser. It just went down SO smooth. Drink some. Also. It's a medium-quiet place. Family friendly. Has that down home look and feel.

And you will not convince me otherwise that was not leftover from the night before and dunked in the deep fryer chicken. Staff was passively friendly and when dealing with customers and the cleanliness of the building was fair and acceptable. However, this is KFC! and the quality of the "Chicken" served here was "HORRIBLE". It was over-battered with a thick, mushy, saturated with seed oil (dripping with oil!) COLD oil, cold chicken that was very small pieces of chicken once you removed the thick, oily batter and the unnatural amount of additional fat (injected into parts where chickens DO NOT have fat). This was NOT the "Kentucky Fried Chicken" I remember from decades ago!
