Color correction/Silver hair transition: Grace is amazing. I made a choice to grow out my grey hair, and this frightens most colorists. Grace is the first colorist I have gone to who supports this decision, is willing to work with it, and has the technical capabilities to make this process an enjoyable one. I have all of the hair qualities that are difficult for a stylist; greying, previous color damage, high porosity, warm undertones, thick, long, curly, and tangles easily. My hair had 7 months of salt and pepper grow-out next to a dark band of color, next to yellow and orange ends. She blended it all into a gorgeous ash blonde, and I will continue to go to her for highlights and toner until my hair is 100% naturally white/ silver. I've been to many experienced and talented colorists throughout my life, and Grace is the first I've been to that did not get frustrated by how challenging my hair is. If you are a hair color virgin like I am, I would highly recommend going to Grace. She is patient, listens to your concerns, puts you at ease, and suggests what works best for you. I did a lot of research before considering Do or Dye as this was my first time. I emailed her my picture, told her what I was expecting, and she immediately suggested a best look for me, we exchanged few emails and fixed a date that works best for both of us. The only thing is that you might have to book the appointment 3 to 4 weeks in advance which I think is reasonable. I also went to multiple other traditional salons in Houston for consultation but they barely listened to me or suggested anything. The atmosphere at Do or Dye is also welcoming unlike other salons. I should have left this review years ago... Lindsay at do or dye changed my hair life. By teaching me what shampoo to use, I realized my hair could hold curl. It took me 30 years to learn this! I made an appointment with William after reading favourable reviews and due to the ease of just doing it online. I was a little worried since he's a little pricey, but it was worth every cent. My request for salons is always simple: I just want natural looking, thin highlights that give my hair some life without them looking artificial or streaky. It seems impossible to find someone who will give you highlights without them looking like they're just a streaky mess and super artificial. Will managed to give me natural looking highlights that blended with some awful ones I had beforehand. As my hair grows, it doesn't look unkempt because they just blend with my natural hair color. My hair was past my shoulders and I had Jodi cut it into a bob. She was so great at checking with me to make sure she wasn't going to short for me, and when I told her I wanted it even shorter she was happy to recut. After seeing consistently great reviews for this place, I decided to splurge and book an appointment. I learned that you book your own appointment via a scheduling site, and I admit it was confusing at first to know which appointment type you should pick. All of the stylists were booked for several weeks, but I managed to find one for this afternoon with Will - best decision ever! Will was a super nice guy, easy to talk to, and did an absolutely fantastic job. I've never had a great haircut until today - he gave me so much body and movement, which is awesome since I have long hair. He also fixed the horrible highlighting another hair salon did - I went from yellowly/orange streaks to natural light brown lowlights. He said if I had an issue with the old yellow coming through to give him a call, and he would fix it. The color, wash, cut, and style was $175 total...I think the breakdown was $75 cut and $100 color??? Pricey, way more than I have ever paid, extremely well worth it. Decided to make an appt here based on the numerous 5 star reviews and make the trek from Galveston. First of all, you have to schedule with each stylist individually and it can be a hard to get a hold of someone. Contacted several people and did not hear back from majority of them. Lindsey did reply quickly, thus ended up scheduling an appt with her. She did a fine job, however did I think it was worth the hefty price tag? No probably not. I was not thrilled with how she styled my hair and probably could have gotten the same hair cut for a lower price and not drive for an hour. She was fun to talk too and recommended some good products for my hair. The salon is definitely a cool space, but a bit hard to find. Does not seem pretentious like some other salons in Houston. Thankfully there is ample parking despite being in the Washington area. read more

I have only been here once, but so far I am a fan. I moved to the area all the way from NJ and was way overdue for a haircut. I made an appointment with Jodi based on a recommendation from a friend and was not disappointed! As with any new hair stylist, I was a bit uneasy at first, but Jodi took the time to hear me out and made sure I was happy. The salon overall has a very laid back vibe. Will has been my stylist for over a year now and I have always been pleased with my hair color and cut. The blonde has been consistently buttery, ashy and never brassy or too warm/yellow. I really enjoy my visits with him and appreciate his talent, personality and propensity for not running late (I have never been to a stylist who is so punctual!). He also uses a website for appointments which makes scheduling easy. The front desk staff are always welcoming and offer drinks while you wait.
