They are overpriced, $198 for engine check diagnostic. They held the diagnostic hostage, for several hours, while they did their "free" inspection with their list of urgent recommendations (I have an old car, and some of their recommendations either not accurate or not necessary). Inaccurate diagnosis of the oil leak--also exaggerated--another auto-shop confirmed. DMC told me I needed new spark plugs--which I had (all of them) replaced by a trusted auto repair shop last year, before I moved to Ventura. Their focus seems to be on sales, not service. Oh and they did not top up my oil change, at the end of the service, so when I got home and noticed a couple of days later the oil was on minimum. (New oil filter absorb the oil and needs a top up at end of serve, according to AI) Instead one of their associated told me the low oil was due to a huge oil leak from one of the gaskets. I have a slight oil leak on my garage floor. My new auto (mom and pop) car repair told me no gasket problem, slight oil leak due to something else, and not urgent. Don't be dazzled by the fancy video's and pics from the inspection. Sound great. Most of us don't know what we are looking at anyway. Suggest going to a local repair shop instead. read more

After breaking down on the freeway yesterday in Santa Barbara while on the way home from vacation, our car was towed to DMC Automotive Repair in Ventura.. Obviously, we did not have an appointment and every service bay was already filled. And yet they began working on our car immediately. From Lori and Nancy at the front desk to the mechanic who worked on our car, these are some of the nicest folks I have ever met in the automotive repair business. They arranged for Enterprise to come and pick us up and get us into a rental and charge us their special shop rate. They actually had the car repaired in just a little over four hours for less than the projected amount, but it was late in the afternoon and we decided to spend the night regardless. We will pick our car up this morning at 8 AM. Because of their attitude and kindness they turned a disaster into a very pleasant experience. Got an engine check light on my 2016 Ford Edge Titanium with a 4-cylinder Eco-boost 2.0 engine and only 100,600 miles. Had no idea the issue but figured it was something minor. How bad could it be? Took it to my mechanic who diagnosed it quickly while I waited and said coolant leaked into cylinder 1, cracked the block, that the engine must be replaced and that it will cost $10k!  I was shocked. I kept it garaged, well-maintained and changed the oil at recommended intervals using only premium synthetic oil. My mechanic doesn't replace engines so I needed a second opinion.   I initially thought it was a transmission check light and was hoping my mechanic was wrong somehow. Maybe a little transmission fluid will do the trick? After all, denial is underrated! So I searched local transmission shop reviews and came across DMC Auto Transmissions in Ventura with hundreds of 5-star ratings. I reached out and Lori responded, warm and welcoming and got me in quickly. They checked it out but I was not so lucky. I didn't convey what my mechanic had found but they too found the same issue and sent me evidence forming the same conclusion as my mechanic. They said the high heat produced by the turbo warped the aluminum block and head surfaces causing coolant to leak into cylinder 1 just as my mechanic stated. So my choices were do nothing and sell the SUV "as is" for a significant loss and buy another car (replacement SUV's run $40-50k), replace the ruined engine with similar OED engine with same issue for $8k and hope it lasts, or pay $10k for Ford's redesigned engine capable of handling high turbo heat that comes with a 3-year unlimited mile warranty- engine replacement is covered, labor is not.I decided the latter was the best option. As it turns out I was lucky after all because DMC Auto Transmissions also performed engine replacements and I had confidence going in with them from the start. So I put down the deposit and Lori and team got to work placing the order for the new engine. At this point I had already received great communications from DMC via text and they were very responsive to calls as well. David shuttled me home. Within a few days DMC Auto Transmissions informed me that the engine is on it's way and scheduled me in at 8a the following Monday. I dropped off the vehicle on time and was informed if all goes well I'd have my SUV back with the new engine by Thursday or Friday of that week. It was ready late Thursday afternoon so I arranged to pick it up on Friday morning, which I did. It drove like a dream with only one issue which they quickly fixed- a clip holding a vacuum tube to the intake manifold came loose causing an air leak and had to be replaced. Nancy facilitated the process and Luis the master tech resolved the issue and they delivered my car to my house afterwards. All were friendly and professional and by this point I absolutely knew I will be taking my vehicles to DMV Auto Transmissions in the future and I recommend you do too! And yes, writing to Ford Corporate and keeping receipts in hope I will be reimbursed for at least some of the cost. read more

Beware! Ownership changed a couple years ago. New front brake pads incorrectly installed on new front rotors resulting in the front brakes grabbing and creating loud rubbing sounds when stopping. Took the vehicle back to DMC and without my authorization they removed the back wheels stating the brake noise was coming from the rear wheels telling me to install new rear brakes. I only wanted my front brakes fixed so I was told by the GM to never come back. Took my vehicle to a Tire/Brake shop near Thousand Oaks. The technician showed me the front brake pads were installed incorrectly inner/outer reversed. To fix this I had to pay for a new set of OEM front brake pads and pay for the new rotors to be resurfaced and reinstalled. Now the front brakes perform perfectly. This cost me an additional $440 over what I paid DMC to do a simple brake replacement. read more

brought a truck in for a transmission code that was causing problems and service was done but the mechanic that worked on it decided to use silicone as a gasket instead of getting a gasket well let's just say I am putting a new transmission in truck since silicone and valve body and clutch plates don't mix.I didn't realize you have to crawl under your vehicle to make sure so supposedly good shop can't get a gasket and just charge the customer for it. And yes the truck is only 8 yrs old the gasket is available don't go here it will cost you 10x for whatever they do to have it fixed somewhere else. read more

Had to take my car in for a cracked water pump. Initial quote was around $1000 which sounds about normal. I agreed over the phone, but when I got a call back they said they were done and the final price is now $2000 out the door. I didn't argue before picking up my car to make sure they mess with the car. When I got there I asked why they did that stuff without my permission and how a thermostat and a radiator cap made the quote double. They pulled up a quote that was not what I was told over the phone, and said they only charged me for parts but the labor was raised. Very shady. Stay away read more

Run don't walk away from this business. I spent thousands of dollars with them to have a shifting problem fixed. It is an intermittent problem but very obvious when it occurs. Since I seldom drive the vehicle, I didn't bring it back until months after they had worked on it. The manager's response when I told her I hadn't driven the vehicle hardly at all was "come on", as if I was being untruthful. All she had to do would have been to check the mileage. The office manager was extremely condescending and full of excuses. For example, said it was possibly the fault of a prior shop's work (who had worked on the vehicle before DMC had!). My favorite statement by the manager was "it could be a bad spark plug" (the vehicle is a diesel and doesn't have spark plugs). Over and over she kept adding to her statements about further service by them was "and then we'll have a conversation" in a very condescending tone. She was EXTREMELY defensive about any possibility that DCM had failed to fix the shifting problem. Bottom line, this business as represented by the manager is very good at coming up with excuses for not fixing your problem. I wasn't looking for a refund, just some consideration or even an acknowledgment that they had failed to fix the main problem. I've been to many repair shops and NEVER had as bad an experience as I had at DCM. read more

My 2007 Toyota Camry may not be impressive, but she's been good to me and I want to treat her well. The alternator died, though, and the tow truck driver recommended DMC. I was thrilled that it was right around the corner from me. I was notified when it was ready with a text that contained pics of the work they had done. They showed other areas of the car that needed work, rated red for immediate need & yellow for less urgent areas. It even included an explanation of how the parts affected the rest of the ride. It was truly a comprehensive report. Initially, DMC had someone run to my house for my keys (long story), and when I came to pick the car up, she said she would've driven it to my house! I went in for AC recharge. The estimate was $168. Nancy asked me if I wanted a Diagnostic on the car. I asked if there was a charge and she answered, "No, it is free." When I went to pick up the car the price for the AC recharge was double. "Oh we had to get a different kind of fluid...." There was an $80 labor charge for the diagnostic. When I told her she said it was free, she said nothing and looked at her computer. I don't like confrontations, but I also don't like to be lied to and duped. I paid the bill under protest. Warranty is 12 months. During the year DMC changed owners. If anyone has tried to get a new company owner to honor a prior owners work you can understand my pleasant surprise when Gary, the new owner stepped up and replaced the torque converter in less than 48 hours and at 100% no charge. You're the Cadillac dealer??") and they referred me to DMC on Thompson Ave.  It was a blessing in disguise as I could not be happier with the service, kindness, and professionalism of DMC Automotive Repair.  The tasking was a huge undertaking and they were happy to take it on.  Turns out the actuator needed to be replaced which involved removing the whole dash panel (huge job) to gain access to the part.   The price was fair and the turn around time quick; I dropped the car off on a Monday and had it back by Wednesday afternoon.  Plus they offer rides to/from their business. I was headed back to Santa Clarita after surfing and I hit a pothole near Emma Wood. My truck died and I needed a tow, but my AAA is basic for 7 miles only. I picked the first place to tow and it was Concours. After getting the tow truck confirmed I called Concours and he said they only do European cars, but to call DMC and he gave me their number. So I called, Lori answered, and said they'd be expecting me. I got there and Nancy checked me in. Super friendly and professional, both of them. After checking me in, Nancy said they couldn't get to if for at least an hour and Lori gave me a ride home. ALL THE WAY TO CASTAIC!. Anyway, I was floored by their service. They did have my truck for two full days while trying to trouble shoot why a fuse would blow after violently hitting a pothole, but even the mechanic that worked on my car made sure I knew which fuse it was and gave me an extra. It was one of those weird things, but when you get stuck an hour from home not knowing who to trust, you can totally trust this shop. If you live in Ventura, go there. Wow! It is not often that you get great service that you are happier with than expected, but I did! I have a 2002 Ford Excursion, 7.3 diesel, that is my "forever car" and that I am very picky about. I had an issue with the transmission overheating while pulling my trailer and decided to install a recommended larger after market transmission cooler, Mishimoto, that I bought thinking of installing it myself. I called several transmission shops and several stated they would not install owner purchased parts. DMC stated they generally do not installed owner purchased parts, but the manager, Gary, said that they would make an exception and would install it. There were some issues with my calls to the shop in setting up an appointment, and that turned out to be my problem, and Gary was very patient and helpful with me and set it up. Even though it was my problem Gary gave me a $50 coupon off that they were offering at the time. One of the perks for me is that one of their mechanics is a Ford certified master mechanic, with forty years of experience, who obviously specializes in Fords. Dropping of the car was very quick and simple with the nice office staff from Nancy, the office manager, to the shuttle driver. Yes, they also offer shuttle service. I am kind of a backyard mechanic and I have to say that their full vehicle inspection is pretty through. I received the inspection list through a text message, all the items checked, including photos of each, that were in good condition or needed attention. I keep my car well serviced and I was surprised that there were a few items they noted that I had missed. However, there was no pressure for me to have those items repaired. The work was done the next day, and not only was I happy with the reasonable price for the installation, but I was pleasantly surprised when I found that the car had also been washed! Over the years I have found many services through Yelp reviews, and I generally take the reviews with a grain of salt. However, I have also found that most the businesses that receive fairly good reviews generally deserve them. After my experience with DMC Transmissions I see why they received so many good reviews. I have found my plumber, electrician, and several other services through Yelp, and now I have found our auto repair shop for all of our cars because DMC does not only specialize in transmissions, but also full auto repair and maintenance. I could not be happier with the service and professionalism of Donny and his team. He thoroughly explained the issue and the solution and was up-front and honest about the cost and timeframe to repair it. The repairs were done on-time and at the quoted cost. The staff was friendly and helpful, and afterwards, when I had an issue that I thought might be related to the transmission work that was done, they were willing to look at it immediately and diagnose the problem (which ended up being unrelated, and which they also did a great job repairing).
