Service, Quality, and Value for sure! My 1996 4runner, with 256k miles, stopped shifting after some trail riding at Rowher flats. I made it as far as Fillmore before I couldn't shift at all. AAA got me to the nearest mechanic in Fillmore, and they told me my transmission was toast! The estimate was $7,900... it made me so sad because I love my 4Runner... I knew I had to get my 4runner to Wally and Dave Wilks, they have been taking care of me since 2009.. so I get my vehicle to Dave Wilks and it turns out I was low on trans fluid. Carrier bearings were making noise in the differential. Coast differential couldn't do it until mid June due to COVID-19 work backup. Coast differential suggested Dave Wilkes transmission. Had the rear differential rebuilt on my Ram 3500 srw on April 22nd by Dave Wilkes Transmission. (don't usually do rear differentials) Friday June 11th (1500mi later) I noticed inside of right rear wheel was wet from axle lube. Brought the truck back and talked to Wally Navarro at Dave Wilkes and explained the situation of the leaking seal. After listening to the relevant info, they agreed to replaced the axle seal n/c. note: The rear seals were replaced just 12 days prior to the differential rebuild back in April. Cause of the seal leaking is undetermined. All I can say, is they made it right by me. Kudos! read more

Could not say enough positive things about this shop. We were visiting family, drove in from Phoenix on a Thursday and had a transmission fluid leak that needed attending too. They were kind enough to get our vehicle evaluated that same day, and went above and beyond to coordinate parts and another shop to evacuate and refill the AC system (necessary to replace my transmission cooler which was the problem) so that repairs could be finished by close Friday to accommodate our leaving for Phoenix without waiting for Monday work on the vehicle. They even stayed late Friday to finish the work, above and beyond service. Wally the main tech was very communicative and helpful in explaining every step of the process over the phone, and giving me very informed and honest info about cost and breaking down the specifics of the findings and recommended repair work. Dave the owner also was very involved and helpful as well, this seems like an incredibly well run shop top to bottom. The price paid for the repairs was very fair, if not a bargain even, we honestly expected more California sticker shock being from Arizona. I brought my Range Rover (older but great great range rover into them when I had a minor (subsequently had a RR specialist look at it) to have what was a simple linkage work done and was talked into a MAJOR rebuild. Every specialist said I was taken for a ride. They never really heard of a RR needing a complete transmission redo. Could have bought a reconditioned one for what they charged. This was done about 4 years ago and still haunts me to this day. I did some research on them and seems like they were majorly called on the carpet by one of the official city specialists for this type of shady work and taking people for a ride. I looked at recent reviews... and seems like a lot of happy people... what can I tell you "Get a second opinion... or a third" and you'll probably see what I experienced. Wish I could shout my way way way over charged and scamed talked into work that didn't need to be done. Please check their history... maybe they learned from their mistakes, but genetics are in the system. GET A SECOND OPINION IS ALL I CAN SAY. SAVE YOURSELF $1000'S. Dave Wilkes transmission is way overpriced. i called 6 other transmission shops in ventura and oxnard and this place cost 350 dollars more than any of them. wish i knew that before i paid for the 100 dollar diagnostic. if you need work i suggest cjp automotive you may also find it under independent transmission. the owner there is honest and reasonably priced. hope that saves you some cash and a headache. read more
