Updated Review: Do not trust Darryl Huie or DL Reston. While he may come across as friendly and helpful, my experience was the opposite. I found him to be manipulative and unprofessional and, in my opinion, took advantage of my difficult personal circumstances. In Dec 2017, just weeks after losing my mom and sister and months after moving into my beautiful new home, I discovered a water leak that caused significant damage to my kitchen and multiple rooms. I initiated a claim with my insurance company, and began gathering quotes from three separate contractors -- one of whom was Darryl Huie. His initial demeanor was overly eager and persistent. Despite not being awarded the project, he repeatedly inserted himself into the process, including contacting my insurance adjuster without my consent, showing up to my property unannounced, and calling, emailing, and texting me constantly. I was grieving, overwhelmed, and traveling frequently for work and trying to get my family affairs in order, so I allowed limited access to my home strictly for estimation purposes. Not for any actual work. Darryl claimed that even if I didn't move forward with certain repairs, I was still obligated to pay him the entire labor amount my insurance company had awarded, even for work he wasn't doing. He warned me that I could be reported for insurance fraud if I didn't hand over all the funds to a licensed contractor (i.e., him). In my opinion, he used my inexperience with the insurance process to pressure and intimidate me, which I now see as taking advantage of my vulnerable situation. When I declined to move forward, he entered my home without permission while I was traveling and removed the granite countertop, then claimed it broke due to a "preexisting condition" which would have to be filed under a second claim. He later attempted to manipulate the situation by suggesting he could help get it covered under the initial claim if I gave him the job. I considered this a serious ethical violation and reported it to my insurer. When I returned home, I found my road bike missing from the garage and the broken granite left behind. I then received a $1,200 invoice for "services" for removal of the granite countertop, which I never approved. He eventually sued me in small claims court, falsely asserting we had a verbal agreement. Fortunately, I documented everything, and the judge dismissed the case. Years later, he resurfaced and sent me a disturbing message through Facebook filled with personal attacks, prompting me to finally share this experience. At the time, I didn't have the energy to speak up. I do now. After writing an honest review on Yelp, a man claiming to be his "friend, who happens to be a lawyer," began calling me at work, emailing my personal and work emails. I consider this behavior to be harassing, and I want no further contact. If you are considering working with this contractor, I strongly urge you to proceed with caution. This review is based entirely on my personal experience and supported by court records, insurance documentation, and extensive written communication. read more

Water leak in Aliso Viejo or Lagnua Niguel house? Many of us have the unwanted surprise of needing to quickly fix a leak, clean up the resulting mess, then do the work of replacing sheetrock, floors, paint etc. Fortunately, I found Daryl and DL Restcon. Daryl is professional, on time, knows how to get your house back to normal. On top of that, he is reasonably priced, fast (but not rushed) and great to work with. We've hired Darryl and DL Restcon for two water damages at our home in 2018 & 2020. Most recently, we called on a Sunday with water coming through our family room ceiling. Darryl immediately coordinated his plumber to repair the pipe, and he subsequently contained, dried out, and repaired the large hole in just 9 days from start to finish. Last time he worked with our insurance, this time we paid out of pocket and he was accommodating of our budget. We also appreciated the cleanliness and care for our family's health during Covid. Darryl is great. Though it took a little while to get confirmation of the work to be done, he got all the work done by the requested completion date. DL Restcon did an excellent job in restoring the condo bathroom to its original condition. When called, Darryl Huie, the owner, came immediately to provide a a free quote. We did use his company for the repairs and the situation was handled in a timely and thorough manner. He is good in working with insurance companies so he knows what information and photos to provide. I did not know all of this prior to calling DL Restcon, but the situation unfolded over several weeks. The water damage to my condo ceiling was caused from the irresponsible owner who lives above my unit. He used unlicensed contractors for his bathroom remodel. The plumber improperly installed a bathtub. He did not put in an overflow drain so that when the bathtub was filled, water was puddling on the ceiling of my unit. This caused extensive water damage to the ceiling and side walls of my unit. The upstairs owner wanted to use his workers to repair the damage and only planned on replacing the ceiling drywall. After unsuccessful attempts to resolve the problem, I needed a second opinion so I randomly selected DL Restcon to give an estimate. Darryl Huie assessd the situation. As predicted, the damage was much more than extensive than the upstairs owner would admit and needed a complete dryout process before the repair work could begin. Although this is a small job for his company, Darryl handled the work from beginning to end as if it were as big as any of his other jobs. He is unpretentious and easy to work with. My wife and I called Restcon and spoke to Darryl about the damages that happened to our house. He offered to come out and give us a second evaluation since we weren't sure about the evaluation from our insurance company. He walked around the house and started listing different items around the house we should upgrade to higher the value of our home. We found it weird since we had only called him and asked for a second evaluation not an opinion of everything he thought was wrong with our home. He also asked a few times what the insurance company was offering us for the damages, we let him know it was not necessary for him to know our personal finances. My wife felt very uncomfortable with a stranger who should be a professional asking personal questions not once but multiple times. We asked him to give us his evaluation findings and he asked again what funds we would be getting and then he will send us the final evaluation of his visit. It's been over 6 months now and needless to say, we never received any documents as if they were held hostage for not letting him know what we received from our insurance company. We got the work done by a Certified contracting company and couldn't be happier with the results. Word to the wise, never let a money grubbing stranger that misrepresents themselves in your family home. Lesson learned! read more
