    Ribs, red rice and yams
    Bionca W.

I stumbled across this restaurant through the Yelp app and was interested to try from all the positive reviews although the staff was friendly and very helpful the food was only sub-par. I highly believe I came on a bad day (meaning they weren't expecting much customers for the day of the week we came). The red rice was very soft almost mushy the yams weren't bad they were sweetened and cooked right but the ribs were not as tender as expected and very light on bbq sauce on the one hand this place is very inexpensive and is worth giving another try

Ribs, Mac' n Cheese, sweet cornbread

If you have not been to the new DJ's location off 17 in the tikki taco strip mall run don't walk. It's a cozy little spot and the food is delicious. Truly southern cooking at its finest. The ribs fall off the bone, the Mac n cheese is excellent, and not pictured below okra stew is full of flavor. The fried chicken also not pictured is crisp, flavorful and not very greasy. The service is outstanding, and worth the wait in line if you go when they are busy. I'm tempted just to get all sides because they all looked fantastic. Definitely check this place out when you get a chance. You'll be happy

Beef stew over rice with cabbage, Collard greens, yams and Mac & Cheese
    Robert E.

This food was amazing!!! The service was great! I'm not a pork eater so the fact that the collards and cabbage was cooked with Turkey was a plus for me. I purchased a ton of food for the family. We got the Turkey wings, beef stew, collards, yams, white rice, Mac and cheese & corn bread! We don't eat pork in my house so I wanted to get the fried chicken but it was cooked in the same grease as the pork chops. This place will defiantly be getting my business! O Almost for got. The fruit punch was amazing!!!!!! Most soul food places put to much of something in the food to give it that taste. This place wasn't like that. They did everything just right! Tasted like a nice home cooked meal. Totally recommend it!

That balance is harder to achieve than it sounds. Her attentiveness, knowledge, and timing were outstanding. Service -- 10/10 The dining room is comfortable, roomy, and relaxed. My associate and I were there for about 90 minutes, and it was an easy place to sit, talk, and enjoy a meal without feeling crowded or rushed. Ambience -- 10/10 Now, the food. I had the rib lunch, and before I go any further, I should disclose that I'm a certified BBQ judge with the South Carolina Barbeque Association. That probably makes me a little more particular about ribs than the average customer. These were excellent. The ribs had a delicious flavor and aroma and weren't greasy at all. In fact, they had exactly the sort of appetizing sheen you want to see on a properly prepared rib. If I were judging them critically, I could point to only two things, and neither would keep me from ordering them again. They were a tiny bit softer than my personal preference. As a BBQ judge, my palate has developed toward a rib with a nice, light bite--the meat should release cleanly when bitten but still have some structure. Plenty of people prefer a softer, more fall-apart rib, so this is very much a matter of preference rather than a criticism. I also would have preferred them served a little hotter. Again, I wouldn't mark the ribs down for that. There are plenty of factors that can affect serving temperature, and it isn't something we judge when evaluating the quality of a rib. I don't specifically remember which sides I ordered, which probably says something about how much attention I was paying to the ribs, but I do remember that the sides were excellent as well. Food -- 10/10 Perhaps the strongest endorsement I can give is this: I rarely order ribs in restaurants. Too few places really know how to do them well, and I'll readily admit that judging BBQ has spoiled me. I'd come back here specifically to order these ribs again. That's a 5-star meal.

However, I feel like we've had better barbecue up north than we did here... We ordered a brisket plate + a pork belly plate to share with mac & cheese, grits and corn pudding. The brisket was dry and flavorless. The pork belly was more fat than meat. Thank goodness for the variety of delicious sauces they provided with our meals! I'm giving two stars for the sides & sauces being pretty good but that's about it. I don't know the area but I'm sure you can find better meats elsewhere :(

We had fried pickles for the table. My daughter got brisket, my son got a burger and fries, and I had the 3 meat plate (sausage, brisket, and pork) with Mac and cheese and hash and rice. Everything on my plate had a nice, smoky flavor to it but was otherwise underwhelming. The sauces lacked real flavor and were bland. The hash was bland and the mac and cheese was just mush with too much flour and too little cheese. My son described his burger as "OK". Inside the decor had that Cracker Barrel thing going on where it's made to look old timey but comes off as manufactured, but you're here for food not aesthetics. Nothing really jumped off the table at me as "this is good". Maybe I am spoiled by having lived near so many stellar smokehouses when I was in the Columbia area, but paying $86 after tip for 3 people to eat very mid grade BBQ and the plates weren't really loaded down, when I could spend less for buffet at Shealy's or Hudson's and have an outstanding meal just doesn't feel great. At the same time, nothing was offensive. It just didn't scratch the BBQ itch for me. J.Ja

The facility was clean and well stocked. The quality of food is not worth the crowding or wait time that so many are subjected. As a single person party, I chose to find a seat at the bar. It was not overly large and was monitored by 2 servers. I was fairly quickly addressed to get my drink and I ordered a starter without prompting due to the number of patrons. Another sat beside me but she was overlooked for quite a bit of time, finally having to ask for a menu. Once my starter arrived, the okra basket, I was ignored. The okra was ok but nothing special, standard premade restaurant supply brand of thickish breading that was intermittently soft or crunchy. I was 1/4 way through the basket before I had a chance to request cutlery and seeing that the servers had started to focus only on the person next to me that they had initially overlooked, I also requested my entree. I had reviewed the menu prior to arrival and decided on my order in advanced. Unfortunately it was not available on the brunch menu and lunch was not an available option. I should have asked for the check at that time but selected an omelette instead. While waiting and consuming my starter, I requested a menu draft to be told it was unavailable too. The suggested alternative was decent. My entree arrived about 20 minutes later. It was dry, both the eggs and protein. I was able to request and receive a sauce in a short period of time. My refill did not need to be requested but it was incorrect so I did have to ask for another. I know the staff is most likely good, the popularity produced by the Travel Channel keeps them too busy and complacency is prevalent. I had hoped that the publicity did not change the uniqueness of the menu but I will trust my intuition in the future and continue to avoid these types of restaurants.
