As I sat in gridlock Friday's traffic and tried to answer the complex question, what do I want for dinner? I spotted DJs and turned into CVS to park. Upon entering this establishment, I noticed it was clean. I order Turkey Wing, White rice, and Lima Beans. The Turkey Wing is perfection. However, the Lima Beans were salty and dried on top of the Rice. I threw them and the rice away. The cashier called for more sides to come out and suggested I wait for the new batch. I assumed it was okay because the man before me received those lima beans. Lesson learned. read more

Ohhhh we live right down the street from DJ's. Please if you ever get hungry ... go try this fantastic place. My hubby has Fridays off, so Thursday nights were our time to grab dinner and put our feet up and enjoy meals that just make your tastebuds sing just thinking of it. The pork chops, Mac n cheese , omg the fried okra!! Green beans and just every item is outstanding and raised on a farm in rural Virginia with mom that made her own biscuits and sausage etc. DJ's beats my mom's cooking and I never thought I would say that ....ever !! Finally made it here. Wanted the ribs but she was out so I had chicken and two sides, cabbage and collars. The veggies were outstanding but the chicken was only wings and drums - I would have liked bigger, but the chicken was very tasty. Everything comes in styrofoam with plastic, not my out to eat choice. The wife had a fish sandwich which comes as two pieces of bread with two whiting fillets, plenty of food but it's like make you own. The same goes for the chicken sandwich which was a thigh and a leg with two pieces of bread, make your own? The quality of the food was outstanding but the rest fell short. I stumbled across this restaurant through the Yelp app and was interested to try from all the positive reviews although the staff was friendly and very helpful the food was only sub-par. I highly believe I came on a bad day (meaning they weren't expecting much customers for the day of the week we came). If you have not been to the new DJ's location off 17 in the tikki taco strip mall run don't walk. It's a cozy little spot and the food is delicious. Truly southern cooking at its finest. The ribs fall off the bone, the Mac n cheese is excellent, and not pictured below okra stew is full of flavor. The fried chicken also not pictured is crisp, flavorful and not very greasy. The service is outstanding, and worth the wait in line if you go when they are busy. I'm tempted just to get all sides because they all looked fantastic. I've known about this place for two weeks and I've already been twice. The fried pork chops are top notch and the sides are just as good. The service is great, the food is great. It's the type of restaurant that has meat & 1, meat & 2, meat & 3 (sides) as their main option and everything is placed in a togo box when you order whether you dine in or carrout. Service was absolutely AWFUL! I was the only person there. Literally! However the two young ladies in the front was so engage with gossiping about the owners they completely ignored me. This food was amazing!!! The service was great! I'm not a pork eater so the fact that the collards and cabbage was cooked with Turkey was a plus for me. I purchased a ton of food for the family. We got the Turkey wings, beef stew, collards, yams, white rice, Mac and cheese & corn bread! We don't eat pork in my house so I wanted to get the fried chicken but it was cooked in the same grease as the pork chops. This place will defiantly be getting my business! O Almost for got. I was craving some soul food and this place came up on Yelp and google. It's a quaint store front in a strip mall, next to the barbershop,so pay attention that you don't miss it. The inside is just so cute! I was greeted with warm hellos and big smiles. I placed an online order and it was ready before the promised time. I got the fish, cabbage, yams, potato salad and I decided to get a pie of sweet pie. The pie was a huge hunk, and I'm glad it's so delicious!!! The cabbage was soooo flavorful, not watery at all. The yams were tender and the delicious. My only gripe is I wish the fish was fried hard, it was definitely soft by the time I got to my destination which was only 6 minutes away. So glad they moved to a larger spot, the access is much easier and a little more room to eat in if you choose. Now, the food, still the same great tasting, feel it in your soul, soul food, I'm just in love with the Turkey Wings, so flavorful, I also normally get the Lima beans, mmmm! I once got a double order or them and basically drank one before I got back home, I did not care who was looking as I drove and drank. Their fried chicken and fish is off the chain as well, I am determined to try everything on the menu this Summer and I may have to check into a weight loss clinic in the Fall but that's another story. Tried this place two nights in a row because I wanted to give it a fair review. 1st night was an online order for 2 meals, both with meat and 3 sides. I ordered chicken with red rice, Mac-n-cheese and okra soup for hubby. There is no where online to choose the piece of chicken you want, or tell you what you'll get. We got two wings. Hubby said everything was good. Not great but good. My meal was fried fish ($2 up charge), Mac-n-cheese, Lima beans and potato salad. I'm very picky about potato salad and this one did not disappoint but it was a tad bit on the salty side. The Mac-n-cheese should be renamed cheese-n-Mac, lol. It was not too salty, had a good cheese flavor and allowed for more flavorful items to be paired with it. The Lima beans were spot on. Perfect! The fried fish came in two pieces, some bones which was ok with me and a beautiful golden brown color. The fish has a really nice flavor and some kick (heat) on the back end but one of my pieces was not thoroughly cooked. It was a thicker piece that obviously folded while cooking and the folded part didn't get cooked all the way. We also ordered banana pudding which was just okay. There was more pudding and I can recall only eating 2-3 banana pieces. **When hubby went to pick up the food he noticed they had Turkey wings and got that along with sweet potato. He liked both. Also, when I saw the pieces of chicken I received, I called a few times but no one answered. Today's meal was again 2 orders of meat with three sides. I ordered the chicken and asked what pieces come with it while explaining what happened the day before. I was told it comes with a leg quarter and all they sell are wings and leg quarters. I'd suggest indicating that the chicken will be substituted if there is no more of the other. For my sides, I got corn and double Lima beans since it was so yummy yesterday. The corn was, well corn! Nothing fancy and I'm glad. The Lima beans today were way too salty, I could only eat 3-4 spoonfuls before my tongue had enough. Our other meal was fried pork chop, white rice and Lima beans. Hubby said the pork chop was good but he did have to scrape off the salty Lima beans. The location is on a busy part of 17-A so I recommend temporarily parking in the CVS lot so you don't get stuck in their small lot. Some items are made to order, others are cafeteria style behind a hot glass so you see exactly what your getting. If I didn't feel like cooking and wanted some southern food, I would return but there is definitely room to grow with consistency in food preparation, and their online format. It wasn't an OMG experience with food. I must say that the server in front was working hard and still friendly. I look forward to supporting this small business and seeing it grow. read more

Apart from waiting over an hour for an online order (which was paid in advance). They did offer a water bottle and banana pudding for my wait, but I declined as I didn't order or want. The menu doesn't delineate under meats any proper quantity ( I recommend online say one piece of whatever meat to be clear), so for example, I waited for fried chicken for over an hour for three pieces of 2 chicken pieces and 5 pieces for wings for three orders of wings. It's not consistent with your menu as well. I also understand there was a bigger order before me, who paid with a check (I really hope that check clears). The chicken was OK, food seemed ok, and skin was tasty. I understand you just opened, and are used to customers eating in. I'm rather disappointed with my experience and can't recommend coming back. Horrible food. Need the Health Inspectors to go in. The best thing was the Turkey wings. The chicken wings was not seasoned at all. The collard greens looked like they just came out of the field. The cabbage was brown like if they was put out from the day before. The sweet corn was so brown. The rice was real dry. The corn bread tasted like cake.
