The first night my friend and I went looking for this place, we walked right past without even…read morenoticing it. (We ate at the Italian place across the street instead.) The second night, while heading somewhere else, we saw the teeny-tiny sign in the window, saw a couple people inside, and decided to give it a try. There was nothing wrong with the food; it was absolutely average. My friend and I both had the pad Thai with chicken, and it was no better or worse than the pad Thai I've had anywhere else. I ordered mine very mild, but it was still spicy enough for me to guzzle my entire glass of water. Then I sat and hoped for a refill. It didn't happen. The restaurant is a bit odd. I gather they do most of their business in takeout: While we were dining, quite a few people came in to pick up orders. The dining room is just a few tables with plastic tablecloths and folding chairs. A single picture hanging on the wall in the only decoration. You place your order at the counter around the corner from the dining room, then take a seat and your food is brought to you. When you are done you get up and pay at the counter. No one checked on us while we were eating, although the girl at the counter was quite friendly. Being from California, where we are sometimes over-served in restaurants, I was not used to the payment system (the waiter doesn't bring the bill to you!), but we encountered this in most of the other restaurants we ate at in PEI, so I guess it's typical. If you're in the mood for Thai, you could do worse. If I lived in Charlottetown, I'd prefer eating in the comfort of my own home than in the restaurant. But the price was decent and the food was perfectly adequate.

This restaurant is incorrectly named. It's called simply: "Thai Food." The pad thai is delicious, as is the hot and sour soup. If you're hankering for thai here in Charlottetown, your choices are quite limited, however, this place satisfies the thai craving ;)

I was not expecting a vegetarian or a vegan friendly place in Maritimes and definitely not in PEI. Were seated quickly and the place wasn't busy, but tables were filled in which was as a good indicator. Disappointed that green tea is not offered complimentary. Ordered a steamed dumplings to start with and Udon Noodles with mixed veggies, Mushrooms with Bok Choy, Spicy Soy Nuggets with mixed veggies. The dumpling were freshly made and good. The filling needed some more seasonings and were bit smaller than the ones we have added. The Chilli Sauce requested did the trick. The Steamed Rice provided with the two dishes was also smaller than anticipated and glad that we ordered the Noodles dish. After traveling for days and not having proper food, this food was a welcome relief. The udon noodles was perfect in every way except I think one of the mushroom or wood ears had a stronger flavour which over powered the entire dish. It was almost bitter. Not overly, but it still took away all the rest of the flavours. Mushrooms with Bok Choy was perfect. The flavours and crispness of Bok Choy was 5/5*. The Soy Nuggets with mixed veggies was amazing as well. The Soy nuggets small and veggie still crisp. Could have used a bit more spice though All in all a good spot. What was most amazing to me was that in the land of sea food that there was this place. Also as we were in PEI, it would have been nice if at least one dish was made with PEI potatoes and some Soy Sea Food dishes that are available

This one is in a…read morestrip mall off University Ave. You've probably had a lot of egg rolls at Thai and Chinese restaurants in your lifetime, and I guarantee that theirs will be the worst you've ever had. They don't even LOOK like egg rolls - soft, brown rectangular pouches. Seemed clearly manufactured in a factory elsewhere, and warmed up here. But don't take my word for it - stop in and order an egg roll - invest a few bucks for the experience of the worst egg roll you've ever had. On the front window was a big permanent sign, about their "famous Kung Pao chicken" with "homemade sauce". So we ordered that, and a couple of other dishes. I never found enough sauce to report on - I guess it was sprinkled on the top. But here was the problem: each main dish consisted of a layer of the main item, on top of a whole lot of plain white rice. About 1/4 of the ordered item and 3/4 plain white rice. So for the terrible egg rolls and paying for what was largely simply plain white rice, I can't give more than one star for them. And lest you think I'm a negative person who writes critical reviews, I've probably written about 25 restaurant reviews on Yelp over the past 25 years, and if you look them up, you'll find they're mostly 4 and 5 star reviews. I think this is the first time I've given 1 star.

We arrived on a Thursday evening in early June, and the restaurant wasn't quite half full, with tourism season still spinning up to full capacity. We were seated upstairs, which, like their whole space, gives the historic brick building centre stage. The menu a decent size for a place of Brickhouse's pedigree, with several apps and about a dozen mains. They were of the typical sort you'd expect to see in an up-casual restaurant, plus more seafood since you know, it's PEI. It's not particularly inventive or exciting, but there was still plenty of interesting options. I was feeling like some Island beef, so I opted for the short rib, while my other half went for the mac and cheese, with the gluten free noodles subbed in. The large chunk of boneless beef was ultra tender and juicy, and the velvety jus amplified that even more. The seasonal veg was a bit sparse and not especially exciting, but the crisp slices of roasted potato were a welcome addition to the plate. It's hard to have a bad mac and cheese, and Brickhouse passed with flying colours - plenty of cheesy goodness, and a nice bit of browning from some time under the broiler. A side salad of everything bagel-style Caesar salad could have used some more seasoning to make the famous bagel flavour more prominent in an already garlicky and savoury dish, but I appreciated the creative spin nonetheless. For dessert, we split the triple chocolate espresso cake. It presented really well, topped with a sliced strawberry and a dusting of confectioner's sugar and cocoa powder, in a pool of white chocolate pastry cream, but the execution wasn't quite up to the visuals. The cake was on the dense side, and wasn't moist enough to compensate, and the espresso flavour was MIA. Service was easy going and attentive. Brickhouse is lovely space in the heart of downtown Charlottetown, but the kitchen needs a little more attention to detail to truly stand out. It can be easy to coast by in a very touristy place, but people appreciate creativity and quality, no matter where they're from.
