Fried chicken is outstanding, best in the Charlottetown area. Have Ickes it up on several occasions and it's consistently good.

Went here today for some BBQ Brisket. I haven't had any in months and when I saw this place I…read morethought I'd try it since they said they have authentic Texas BBQ. $22/lb of brisket, $9 for a single (cup) of mac and cheese, and $3.50 for a Pepsi. First thing's first, this is not authentic BBQ! The brisket they served me was the most saltiest brisket I've ever tasted. I hardly tasted any meet. And when I was ordering, I'm seeing 2 girls and a guy all in their very early 20s who clearly were no pit masters in barbecuing good brisket. I was explicitly told by the girl who rung me up saying the brisket could be cooked a little under or a little over. WTF???? All BBQ places I've been to take a lot pride in their food, especially BBQ food like brisket. It was like they marinated the brisket in sea salt, had made love to a salt brick, then injected itself with salt like it was looking for it's cocaine fix. Oh by the way, I loved it when the girl who rang me up gets her gloves by the fingertips that touched my brisket! Who then opens a steam oven where multiple briskets are in a small steel container (and probably swimming in salt water). The mac and cheese was slightly better. The only thing I really couldn't complain about was the slice of white bread. And when I tried to get some BBQ sauce to make the brisket taste better on the condiment and utensil table, they were not only out, but the pump was ajar from the container when bugs can easily get in. All this happened around 6:00pm, Tuesday, 7/29/2025

But the service is quick and the grilled cheese sandwiches here are spectacular. I had the pulled pork one, which was delicious. Get it with the tomato soup, because what goes better with grilled cheese than tomato soup?

This heritage property thoughtfully balances historic preservation with modern culinary aspiration. The kitchen demonstrates technical competence across a diverse menu spectrum. The oyster preparations showcase particular refinement--properly brined, impeccably fresh, presented with restrained elegance. The fish and chips transcends pub cliché through superior execution: crispy exterior yields to moist, flaky interior, complemented by properly balanced tartar. The house-made charcuterie reflects thoughtful sourcing and curing philosophy. The beverage program commands particular attention--the on-site brewery produces well-articulated craft selections that demonstrate brewing acumen beyond mere novelty. Beer pairings with dishes evidence intentional consideration. The wine selections, though modest, reflect deliberate curation. Aesthetically, the venue embraces its architectural legacy--brick, timber, and original details provide authentic context while contemporary flourishes avoid pastiche. The multi-level space accommodates various social configurations without compromising intimacy. Service delivery occasionally wavers between attentive and distracted, particularly during peak periods. Some dishes prioritize plating flourish over flavor coherence. The basement facilities, while charming, require navigation challenges for accessibility. Yet these minor inconsistencies cannot diminish what constitutes a destination meriting serious consideration. The Gahan House succeeds through integrated vision--culinary, architectural, and hospitality elements cohesively articulate genuine regional pride while embracing contemporary standards. A venue rewarding both casual visitation and intentional culinary exploration.
