TLDR; If you want some good quality Korean food an excellent service, this is the place to go…read more We have had quite a few Korean foods, both home cooked and at restaurants around the world, because we like Korean food and that's what we grew up eating. It says a lot that we came here two days in a row (would have been 3 if we hadn't departed from PEI early on the third day). Service was amazing and attentive without overbearing or disruptive. Inside as well as the bathroom were clean. Their offering of local beer was great, and when I ordered a bigger size, they even offered a sample to make sure I'd like the beer. We had their Korean BBQ menus as well as a couple others. Kimchi pancake: This was another hit. It tasted exactly like how my grandmother used to make it, where it's flavored enough, but not seasoned to blast your taste buds with way too much flavor. Corn cheese: The flavor was on point. They used A LOT of cheese. We kinda wished there was more corn than cheese, as (this is not something we say lightly as we love cheese) there was almost too much cheese compared to the corn. But it was really tasty. KBBQ menus: We got bulbaek and samgyupsal (pork belly). This place knows how to cook meat. The bulbaek was marinated enough to give it flavor but not overwhelm you with the sweet and salty flavor that other KBBQ spots often have. Pork belly was cooked and cut to the absolute perfection. You can tell the original pork belly they cooked was thick and juicy ones that were cooked to be crispy on the outside and juicy and moist on the inside and then cut to their rectangular shape to make it really easy to eat. It's also great they give you the ssamjang sauce, because that's actually been hard to see in our experience of having KBBQ during our travels in Canada. K Fried Chicken: Now, this was a huge surprise. The chicken was cooked well where the breading outside was crispy, and the chicken inside was tender. Even though they're not a chicken restaurant, they actually managed to get the breading to stay on the chicken itself, instead of sliding off as a whole when you take a bite. This sounds trivial, but as someone who's very into Korean fried chicken and have tried many times to make it at home, this is something that's actually really hard. We tried both soy garlic and spicy sauces, and they were both good. My standard for spicy sauce is from BBQ Chicken (it's name of a chain), and compared to that (one from there tastes sort of like a tteeokkochi sauce), it was missing a bit of sweetness, but it was still really good. Overall, it all tastes like home cooking without overuse of any seasonings. We will definitely be visiting back here when we return to PEI.

Fried chicken is outstanding, best in the Charlottetown area. Have Ickes it up on several occasions…read moreand it's consistently good.

This heritage property thoughtfully balances historic preservation with modern culinary aspiration. The kitchen demonstrates technical competence across a diverse menu spectrum. The oyster preparations showcase particular refinement--properly brined, impeccably fresh, presented with restrained elegance. The fish and chips transcends pub cliché through superior execution: crispy exterior yields to moist, flaky interior, complemented by properly balanced tartar. The house-made charcuterie reflects thoughtful sourcing and curing philosophy. The beverage program commands particular attention--the on-site brewery produces well-articulated craft selections that demonstrate brewing acumen beyond mere novelty. Beer pairings with dishes evidence intentional consideration. The wine selections, though modest, reflect deliberate curation. Aesthetically, the venue embraces its architectural legacy--brick, timber, and original details provide authentic context while contemporary flourishes avoid pastiche. The multi-level space accommodates various social configurations without compromising intimacy. Service delivery occasionally wavers between attentive and distracted, particularly during peak periods. Some dishes prioritize plating flourish over flavor coherence. The basement facilities, while charming, require navigation challenges for accessibility. Yet these minor inconsistencies cannot diminish what constitutes a destination meriting serious consideration. The Gahan House succeeds through integrated vision--culinary, architectural, and hospitality elements cohesively articulate genuine regional pride while embracing contemporary standards. A venue rewarding both casual visitation and intentional culinary exploration.
