I realized people think 4 stars isn't great so I'm updating my review. This place is great. I hope to get back after Covid times. I hope they're still going strong. read more

Was here last night w/my friend to have a couple drinks b/4 heading out for what turned into an adventurous evening!! Drinks are priced OK good mix of people of all types however it was super loud and you couldn't hear conversations. read more

A good place to watch sports in the neighborhood and it doesn't get too crowded. The patrons are generally a little older than at other bars in the area, which means the bar is usually a little quieter. Sometimes they put out free little bowls of prepackaged candy on the tables like Snickers and stuff. It's not going to blow anyone away, but it's exactly what it says it is: a dive bar. Sometimes that's exactly what you want. read more

Now that Ive spent those dollars: here's an actual review, tho I don't do reviews. It was a bar, a fun bar. Drinks were cheap, pours were solid, and the bartenders crushed it despite getting busy as all hell. There were some rude folks given it was after quitting time on a Friday who were desperate for their gin and tonics but the bartenders handled everyone graciously and me and mine had fun messing around on the juke box. read more

Really chill neighborhood bar. I've gone on weekend nights when it is packed to the hilt, and on weekday nights when it's low key. They have free candy at the bar too. Great place to go to play some old fashioned board games and just hang out! read more

I mean its a bar in "the neighborhood" in NYC..its fine..they have games?!?! and they had leftover halloween candy for snacks at the bar (instead of a nut mix!), which was a WINNER! My bf was showing me his old neighborhood "haunts"...it was fine, but again, when i go back to NYC, i'm not going to go out of my way to have a drink here, however, IF i lived in the neighborhood, sure I'd hang out here every once in a while! :) read more

Dive 75 - Me and Christian - Dive Bars Near Me - New York, New York

Came here for wednesday trivia. I was very pleased to see curieux on the menu because I am an exceptionally picky beer drinker. Trivia enthusiasts, be forewarned - it is a fun night but the trivia questions are very specifically themed. For instance, male coming of age movies. Many of them were from the early 70s. Other were NBA and heroines in literature. Not saying these are unreasonable, but just a heads up. Also, you grade your own answers, which I have mixed feelings about. And it's on TV, no one announces it (anymore). To me it lacks much of what I love in a trivia night, but that is not to say it isnt a good bar. There is also an aquarium, which is cool. While there is nothing bad forcing my review down to a 3, there was nothing good enough to push it up to a 4. You should probably read other reviews if you are making a decision to come here and that decision not based on the trivia night. read more

Yellow, blue, red, and black. Those are the colors that attract you to this bar. Those are the colors of Connect Four. Yes, THAT Connect Four. My bro, my cuz, and I played Satan's Game all night here amidst our beer drinking and spilling. Of course, my cousin remained the Pacquiao of Connect Four most of the night until her coveted title was snatched away through sheer determination. I mean, first thing you know, you're dropping your red piece into a "safe" spot, next thing you know, you're trapped on either side and MUST give her a connect four--she's that good. I guess I should have stuck with Boggle. I wouldn't say this place is so much a "dive" bar in the sense that I use "dive" to refer to a bar. It's not dirty, it's not sticky, it's not filled with queer folk (queer meaning strange, not gay). I actually don't understand the name of the bar at all. I would say that it's more of a "neighborhood" bar perched in the middle of a quiet residential street, which explains why you have to be quiet outside the bar. Of course, the minute you enter, you can scream as loud as you can for no reason (highly suggested). The place is small, but big enough. When we went on a Thursday, it wasn't crowded at all. It's easy to get drinks and the crowd is diverse. Lots of seating at the bar and even more couch seating and table seating on the other side of the beautiful fish tank that divides the bar. Oh yeah! In addition to Connect Four and other board games to keep you entertained, they also have these male and female porn arcade games, which are challenging yet entertaining--great for kids (highly suggested). Overall, just a fun place to be for a chill night. This may not be my neighborhood....or state....or part of the country....but I'd come back here again and pretend like I'm a local anytime. read more

Great little spot to stop in for a couple of beers. Kinda small so not really a place to linger for hours. Warm and cozy and friendly. A fave spot of mine for fall or winter. read more

Just your regular-degular dive bar. There's a good amount of seating in the place, and a good drink selection. They have board games and a fish tank. Other than that, it's nothing special really, just a place to stop by for a drink when you're too tired to look for someplace better. read more

Love this place. It's a great tiny hole in the wall on the UWS, right where it needs to be. The bartender recognized me from the last time I was there and poured me the same. I brought my nephew here on his 21st birthday along with the rest of the family, and we played board games that the bar has. Really fun time. Great bar. I love the over dive bars too. read more

!!! My bachelorette got...how do you say? MONSOONED ON. Then a whole bunch of smart and beautiful ladies walked into a dive bar soaking wet. Not sure if you're alllowed, but we were able to bring our own food which was KEY. We brought the party, played bachelorette quiz games, and laughed a lot, and took a bunch of pictures! They have a couch and a love seat in the back, a bunch of board games to choose from, and the dive bar ambiance. On this day, it was exactly what I needed. Thanks Dive 75 for being there when I needed you the most. read more

Dive 75 - Dive Bars Near Me - New York, New York

This is such a wonderful bar in UWS. It has great games (including 3D tic tac toe!), a good beer list, and a chill vibe. I like all three bars that are in this group, but I would have to say that this one is my favorite (probably because of the games). This is the sort of place where you can bring in some food (or have it delivered) and really sit down for a drink with friends. There are so many bars that are trying to be something fancy that I really appreciate this low-key, real spot in UWS. read more

Now I'm all verklempt. Talk amongst yourselves. I'll give you a topic. Dive 75 is neither a dive nor $75. Discuss.... Somewhat pricey drinks are somewhat tempered by the cushy space. Lots of couches, tables and chairs are all set up with bowls of candy. And not your grandfather's candy (though, Papa, you know I love Werther's Originals) either. I'm talking mini Twix bars and the like. There are also a bunch of board games and, sure enough, you'll find people playing. But something about Dive 75 was terribly blah and boring. Yes, it's the upper west side, but that's no excuse for overwhelming feeling of having a case of the Monday's. Upon closer inspection, the bar was full of couples. Grumpy couples. Unhappy couples. Couples playing Scrabble and sipping on mixed drinks and ignoring the chocolate and each other's feelings. There must be a bad couples counselor in the neighborhood. read more

I don't see the "dive" in this dive. You call yourself a dive, you get labeled as a dive on Yelp, but this really isn't much of a dive. Maybe I'm just way too grimy and gritty to see it. I'm a TRUE Dive Diver! Maybe this is considered a dive for the area. Must admit, I don't play up here very often so I'm not certain. Divelessness aside, I still like this place. Good selection of beer, plenty of seating, warm environment, lotsa free candy and board games...I like it all! I'd like to see more than one bartender on certain nights since it takes forever to reach the bar for a drink. That's it. read more

This is a fantastic find. There is plenty of space, friendly service, good beer selection, and they make a mean Long Island iced tea. The atmosphere is light and welcoming. The fish tank is great. "But Brad, I want to play Connect Four when I drink." Well you are in luck, anonymous-statement-guy. Dive 75 has a pretty wide assortment of board games and multiple Connect Four setups. I know its probably been 10 years since you played this game, but there's no reason not to delve into this hallowed deep-thinking strategy game of wit and intrigue. read more

My top 5 reasons I'm kinda into Dive 75: 5. Consistently replenished snack size candy on all the tables. 4. Interesting beers who's names I don't really recognize. 3. A variety of seating - a few small tables, a comfortable couch, the bar... 2. A huge fish tank with twinkle lights in the middle of the room. And the number one reason I would happily go back to Dive 75... Board games! Including Jenga, Connect 4, and Dominoes. Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! No food, minus one star. read more

When you are six, you like M & Ms, Nestle Crunch bars, a tall glass of milk, and a good game of Connect Four. When you are twenty-six, you like M & Ms, Nestle Crunch bars, a tall White Russian, and a good game of Connect Four. Except for a crowd that made me uncomfortably claustrophobic, this is a little slice of heaven. P.S.: One of the best White Russians that I've EVER had. I may not have liked paying $8 for it, but I'll get over it. THEY USED CREAM IN IT. Not milk. CREAM. YAY FOR HEDONISM! read more

I just moved to NYC to the UWS & was in dire search of a good local bar. Everywhere I walked by looked to be catered to a particular type of people... to which I, a 26 year young middle-class gal not looking for a mate, didn't fit into. Then I found Dive Bar & I need not search any further . Reasons why I love Dive Bar: 1) Amazing beer selection - great rotating selection of draft beers at a GREAT price compared to some beer bars I've visited in the city. 2) Cichlid fishtank - Cichlids are bright & aggressive fish, making them great to sit & watch. This tank is full of them... and there are even little baby fishes which are too cute :) 3) Comfy leather couches (and plenty of other seating & table space) 4) Locals crowd - think Cheers! 5) Diverse crowd - you can find people of every age, orientation, race, & profession enjoying themselves. 6) Board Games 7) Complimentary candy jars (with the good stuff - wrapped chocolates) 8) Growlers - all your favorite draft beers, at an even better price, ready to take home. The only draw back to this bar is its size, it can get kinda cramped, but that's a problem of NYC as a whole, not just this establishment. And sometimes it takes quite a while to get the bartenders attention... I should always be able to get a drink in my hand within 10 minutes of walking up to the bar. All that said, it still worth going back! read more

Solid dive that isn't dingy, gross, too dark. Very friendly bartender with a nondescript accent. Solid, large beer selection. Fair prices. A fish tank? Not many of these in UWS, so definitely needed and worth checking out for a casual catch-up. read more

I am a huge fan. I know this isn't fair, but the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it is on the UWS and I can't see myself going all the way up there on a regular basis. :/ On a Saturday evening, the place isn't too packed so you can still grab a stool and chat comfortably with friends. In fact, the place has games like Jenga and Connect 4 and encourages groups of friends to chill for a while. And I don't see why anyone wouldn't- their beer selection is pretty awesome. Not super microbrews, but good draft selection ranging from Peak Organic, Harpoon, Magic Hat, Duvel, and my personal favorite, Delirium. (BOTH Noel and Tremens. I was a very happy camper.) Random fish tank that separates a section of the bar that has couches, but I was thankful for it because it was quite colorful and moreover it blocked the couple on one of the couches sucking face. Another plus is that Dive 75 has bowls of snickers, crunch, and m&m's lying around in case you need a "palate cleanser" in between beers. Friendly bartenders too. All in all, if I lived anywhere near the UWS, I'd be a frequent flyer here. I recommend going here after a nice day at the Museum of Natural History. It looked like there were happy hour deals and trivia nights. read more

This place was so cool!! They have a bunch of games you can play and we got the couch! We played a mean game of checkers where me and my boyfriend tied lol. The drinks are priced well!! The bartender was super friendly. $3 cream ales were the best deal but they have lots of ipas and I had an old fashioned as well. 2 bathrooms. Awesome little place next to Central Park. Not crowded which I liked. Would definitely go back when we visit New York again! read more

Met up with some friends here for a late night drink. The place was pretty crowded, but we found a couch, a table and some other chairs free. I got a glass of white wine which was pretty standard. It's a laid-back dive bar. Not too dirty and not too sketchy. A nice, neighborhood joint. There are TVs which played the sports channels AND they even have board games! We spent some time playing Apples to Apples (which I love to play). It was like having a board game night at home...minus the strangers. read more

Dive 75 has been a consistently great go-to spot for all the friends and family. It has a relaxing lounge area in the back where you can drink with the fishies. The staff are super nice and attentive to customers. They also feature sports games and more intimate games, such as Connect Four. Keep the 75 dive alive! read more

How have I not reviewed this bar yet? It's my favorite in the UWS. I always make a friend there. The beers are good, cold and fast. Well the bartenders are fast...with the beers. They sometimes have candy on the bar. I like that in theory, but in reality tootsie rolls do not taste good with miller lite. I know right? A few tips I've learned along the way at this place. When you go outside, either to take a call or smoke or just go home, be quiet. The bouncer is really strict about that and you won't be allowed back in if your loud. Also, don't attempt to put more than 1 person in the bathroom at a time. Somehow the bouncer also notices this and seperates your bathroom mate from you. What did he think I was going to do in there with her? Fun times kids, fun times. read more

After having dinner at Pappardella, Howie R. insisted on a nightcap at a fun little dive bar. This dive bar is around the corner from where we were up a short flight of stairs. I walked into what was obviously a low-key but fun atmosphere. Each table was spaced out nicely and had a bowl of assorted candy (mostly chocolate). There were games in the corner of the bar and a few came in doubles presumably to avoid conflicts in who saw what board game first and wanted to play it. The crowd seemed tamed and consisted of 20-somethings huddled with their friends catching up or seriously focusing on Life. Although the bar is one fairly decent sized space, they were clever to use a large fish tank to create a "back of the bar" area. The bar itself looked fully stocked and I noticed the bar tender make sure that at least one of the TVs accommodated what someone already sitting at the bar wanted to see. We were here on a Thursday night sometime after 9:30pm and although the noise level was decent, the tables were nearly filled up. If I'm in the area and want to have a casual night with some games and a drink, I think I'll probably pop by again! read more

I really wouldn't classify this place as a dive bar. The clientele are local Upper West Side yuppies and vibe is not grungy. There are board games that can be played and candy on each table to snack on. The drinks are reasonably priced and there is usually some sort of special happening. It seems like every time I go, bottles of Yuengling are $4. This place is chill and a nice spot to enjoy a few drinks and some conversation, one of the best bars in the 70s near Columbus Ave. read more

The rule is that I don't venture north of 34th unless it's to HK for a night out with the boys. Other than that, you're going to be hard pressed to get me on a Harlem bound train! So the other night, a friend was in town and was at one of her favorite neighborhood haunts, so I decided to grant her this one wish while she was visiting and schlepped up to Dive 75. Getting there was half the battle, but once I arrived, a tad moist from the weather, I was greeted by a warm atmosphere packed with people! True to it's name, it's definitely a neighborhood bar - DIVE might be a bit extreme. This particularly evening was Tasting Night, so they had varied deers on tap for only $3 with some interesting flavors (chocolate beer anyone?!). Aside from that, regular cocktails were very reasonable as well. The crowd is typical upper west siders, nothing wrong about it - people were friendly. This place gets an extrea star because they have tables for people to come and play Scrabble, BattleShip, Connect 4 and more! Apparently it's popular on the date circuit! If I am somehow mysteriously drugged and dragged north again, and happen to tumble by Dive 75, I'll stop in for a few. If you're in the area, check it out! I was surprised :) read more

All of the staff - bartenders, barbacks, bouncers - at Dive75 is incredibly nice. I went there with my roommate when we had just moved in on a random Tuesday night and it was really quiet, but we still stuck around til closing just talking with them and having a really good time. They have hard cider on tap, too, which wins an extra star in my book. And the fact that they have games would make it an awesome icebreaker or place for a first date, if you're afraid of awkward silences. (I seriously think my friends played Connect 4 for 2 hours straight with some guys.) Althuogh they don't have bar food there, they were more than happy to suggest local places from their binder o' menus, and we were able to get mozzerella sticks delivered quickly. Overall, a really great, casual, meet up with your friends and have an awesome-but-not-too-crazy night. I'll be back. read more

Dive 75 - The fish need more water please! - Dive Bars Near Me - New York, New York

You know, I think if I was drunk, I would rate this better....plus I'm biased because I really don't like dive bars. I'm sorry, I know that sounds really cliche and uptight, but I love a clean counter, pretty people and a great selection of beers on tap or top shelf vodkas. But....the fact that it's location is convenient, they have a fish tank and you can play pretty much any board game imaginable?!?! I'll give them the 3 stars this fun, dive bar deserves. read more

I had a good time when I met up with some friends here last Saturday. So why three stars? There was nothing really different about Dive 75 - it wasn't bad, its just that nothing really struck me as amazing. If this was bar was in my neighborhood it would be one of my defaults - you know the type - the bar you go to when you can't make a decision so you head on over to old standby. In the East Village, its Drop-off Service or Common Ground. In Allston, it was Our House. ...and now, on the Upper West Side, its Dive 75. read more

This is a great place to come to have some good, cheap drinks and play games! It is a very chill bar with TVs and board games and candy on all the tables!!! The games are pretty old school, but they are fun to play with a group of friends, or even a date. The bartenders are nice and personable, and the customers are too. They do not have a kitchen, which makes it even better because you can order food and have anything that you want delivered!!! read more

This bar breaks a cardinal relaxed bar rule: it labels itself as a dive. This usually means it attracts douchebags and their ilk. However, there are a few plusses that help me forgive. 1. CANDY! All over the bar and on the many tables around the floor. Yum. 2. Board games 3. Cheap drinks 4. Super relaxed atmosphere, even while breaking aforementioned rule Not something I'd go out of the way for, but definitely four stars because it is close by, rarely packed and a reliable good time. read more

will come here for drinks when I'm in the neighb. Usually a warm and friendly environment with assorted candy to snack on. Sadly on my last visit there was none!
