I am not knowledgeable enough about tacos to know if District Taco is authentic or not. What I do know is that it was pretty damn good. We had the carne asada (seared chopped steak) and the carnitas with chorizo. While the carne asada taco was very good, the carnitas with chorizo was memorable. I dived into my taco and came up with a mouthful of grease--which may sound gross, but oh was the grease tasty! And they have crayons to keep you occupied while you wait for your food, which is a plus in my book. :-) read more

I've eaten here several times and each time, the tacos are well made, with fresh ingredients and delivered by a real person to my table. One of the best values is the 3 tacos for $8. You won't go wrong with any selection. I tend to select the spicy Mexican Sausage Chirizo, or the Al Pastor which is roasted pork and served with pineapple (yumm), the pulled pork carnitas or the Barbacoa, slow cooked shredded beef. Customize your order by having them served up the American or Mexican or El Jefe Way - all are good options--just a preference. This might not be true for all locations, but it is for the Lee Hwy location at least from my experience. Because my order was consistently messed up I stopped going to District Taco. However, my brother wanted to go today, so I figured I would give it another shot. What a waste of money! They messed up both of our orders. I realize they are swamped with online orders due to the quarantine rules, but it is not that hard to get a quesadilla right. I would recommend going some place else. Let me start by saying, I have never given food carts much thought - but this particular Monday when I was about to assemble my turkey-on-wheat-open-face sandwich, after a coworker said she got tacos from a food cart at the Clarendon metro - I thought "this sandwich can wait!" First, I was pleasantly surprised by the prices and the topping selections....so much to choose from from this tiny cart - I was overwhelmed! I ordered 2 for $5 (great deal!) - the chicken and pork both with lettuce, pico de gallo, cheese and sour cream on them. Second, I think I inhaled my tacos in 5 minutes flat - they were DELICIOUS. The chicken was cubed, and was good, but the pork was shredded and had so much flavor. I'll admit, it was kind of messy - but even as a Miss Priss I know that sometimes you just have to let it go. When I placed my order I asked if they would be returning to Clarendon and they said perhaps the next Monday. After walking around the Columbia Heights Day festival, it was about time for lunch, and parked on Kenyon Street were several food carts and trucks. I had the chicken taco special which was $7 for three soft tacos and a drink. They put so much chicken on each taco it was wonderful! They let you choose from a bunch of things to put on your taco, from pico de gallo, sour cream , cheese, pinto beans, fresh jalapenos and more! The fresh jalapenos made these tacos even more amazing! I drove to Rosslyn specifically looking for the Halal food cart but it was nowhere in sight. Their reviews mentioned a Distric Tacos food stand so I figured I'd give them a try. I didn't see it either, but I figured perhaps they just parked somewhere nearby. Sure enough down the street (1730 N. Lynn St.) I found a small line of people. It took about 5 minutes in line until I placed my order, and another 10 minutes or so to wait for it to come out. After having TaKorean yesterday and waiting in line for a FULL HOUR...I thought this 5 man operation ran with surprising efficiency, especially considering order is customized. My sister and I ordered a chicken quesadilla, 2 al pastor tacos, and 1 carne asada taco to-go. First of all, the wait time took forever despite not having any other customer's order before us. Second, the pico de gallo smelled like B.O. The smell was so overwhelming, we did not want to finish our food. Third, the taste of the al pastor tacos weren't that great. Coming from Texas, these tacos were a disappointment. Fourth, we found a small chunk of a bone in our chicken quesadilla. 5th, the AC was dripping on us. I visited for the first time last night as part of an event for my daughter's elementary school. She's a very picky eater and devoured her burrito, something that was almost bigger than she is. I had a Burrito Bowl (with Carne Asada) and it was delicious. It was great by itself and I made it even better by punching it up with selections from their salsa bar. Heck, even their designer fountain drinks were delicious. We will definitely be back. My only suggestion is that if you also plan on enjoying a burrito bowl, as I will on my next visit, that you consider avoiding enclosed spaces, certainly if you're with others and even if you're alone, for the next 12 to 16 hours. read more

I love my taco Rosslyn taco truck (El Chilango) but if you're looking for a more "formal" dining experience, definitely check out DT's restaurant location on Lee Highway. I've been there twice now, both times were fantastic. The fish tacos were perfect. They weren't fried and were server the right way, on corn tortillas (you must request this though) and cabbage with onion and cilantro. (see pic) And the salsa bar is great--equipped with everything you need for toppings... pico, salsa verde, roasted tomato, diced jalapenos... yum! And if you like some heat, ask for some habanero hot sauce on the side... a little goes a long way! The guac was fantastic and you get a ton! Enough for a party of 4 to share. But this place will do til I can get my corn taco fix in Cal :) and I ordered my tacos the "Mexican" way here. They do have a condiment bar with all their sauces and salsa. These tacos are definitely some of the best I've had, and I like the way this place feels, although it could use more parking. The inside is clean and modern, and despite the food on the grills going in the open kitchen behind the registers, it didn't get smokey or unpleasant inside. The carnitas tacos were tender and delicious; a little bit of lettuce and pico de gallo was all I had on them, and the meat was delicious without any more than that. I also tried the carne asada, which I don't usually bother with at taco places, but it was surprisingly good. The meat wasn't tough or chewy, and it had been grilled just right so that you got a hint of char flavor, but not so much that it was distracting or unpleasant. When the famed District Taco truck opened a real restaurant in Arlington, all of us locals celebrated. This place is the real deal. Tacos are the thing here. Imagine a fresher, more authentic version of Chipotle, with more interesting meat options, Boylan sodas, and a full fixings bar so you can help yourself to salsas, pico de gallo, etc. The meats are ALL good. A unique alternative to the Carnitas is the Al Pastor, carved rotisserie pork bursting with flavor (I'd prefer it without the chopped pineapple, but I get it anyway because the pork is so good). The Barbacoa is slow-cooked shredded beef, always juicy and a great alternative to the Carne Asada. Better yet: Order several tacos and try them all. GREAT FOOD!!! Can't make up for poor service!! It was my first time to D.T. I ordered online to pick up and when I arrived, I double checked my order, naturally. In doing so, I thought the veg. bowl was skimpier than the meat one, so I asked for extra beans and offered to pay. Not only did the to-go order server, and line cooks, roll their eyes at me, the line cook proceeded to compare the weight of my veg bowl to the meat one in my order, concluding that "they weigh the same". The employees acted like I was a pain in their ass for asking for more beans. No one thanked me for my business. I've been in hospitality for over twenty years. It's not the easiest or most desirable job. But I know what it's like to be a line cook, a server, a registrar, and this is the worst I've seen. If I ask for more beans, I should get them without attitude, especially when I had to return because they forgot my chips. read more

I had my first breakfast taco today and it was great and is the same price as getting a regular egg and cheese from a deli. The portion was more than adequate for breakfast - healthy serving of eggs, potatoes, sprinkle of cheese. I didn't go very adventurous - I stuck to the core taco with just onions but oh boy - I will indeed try all the toppings. They come with a green and red sauce which is delicious and I poured them both in. No coffee in the spring. The man who runs it was very friendly and had much enthusiasm explaining the lunch specials. They are in Rosslyn Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. It has a chipotle-esque vibe but beats them on multiple levels: 1) the food taste: maybe it's the fact that I've eaten chipotle/qdoba for the past 7 years without trying a different fast casual Mexican place, but the carnitas burrito I had simply tasted more authentic, despite getting it the "American way" (lettuce, pico, cheese). Sabroso! 2) food variety: district taco offers everything chipotle and other fast casual Mexican places offer, and more. Specifically, they offer breakfast items (bfast burritos, etc.), while chipotle does not. They also offer a free salsa bar. Again, district taco beats out chipotle in this area. O yeah, they also serve fish tacos... 3) service: while not a big differentiator, having someone bring the food to your table is pretty nice 4) prices: no nonsense add-on prices. Yes, guacamole is extra, but all the "proteins" are priced the same. This means you can get a steak burrito or bowl loaded with toppings and fresh salsa, for less than $8. My wife and I have a new tradition after we stumbled upon District Taco's fish tacos, which were on special on a Tuesday. The fish tacos at District Taco are the best I've had anywhere (including Tucson, San Diego, Los Angeles, and Utah). They're divine from the very first bite: rich in taste with fresh ingredients, and loads of flavor. Suffice it to say, Tuesday nights have gotten a lot better ever since we designated it fish taco night. There's a lot to love about District Taco including their great food, excellent service, and the overall cleanliness of the restaurant. The menu is relatively simple with the staple taco/burrito/quesadilla/salads being offered, but the freshness of their ingredients along with the flavor of the food help them go beyond what you can get at a Chipotle, Southwest Moe's, or Qdoba. The prices at District Taco are shockingly low with the tacos costing $2.25 each if you stick to the free toppings, but the $.50 add-ons are awesome as well; who doesn't like chorizo, bacon, and guacamole? Aside from the fish tacos on Tuesday, my favorites are the steak tacos with grilled veggies, and the chicken with chorizo and cheese, and even when they messed up a pick-up order and gave us a completely vegetarian meal, I wound up loving the vegetarian tacos! I can also vouch for the breakfast tacos, because they're delicious even in the PM hours. In addition to the tacos, I recommend the nachos and quesadillas; share the order and add two tacos, and that should be plenty. Another big win for District Taco in my book is their Boylan's soda fountain, which is a perfectly refreshing complement to any meal. If a savory meal isn't enough, and you're craving something sweet, District Taco also carries an assortment of pound cakes from Two Belles which are absolutely to die for! The first time I bit into one of their with rum, coconut and almond pound cake, it was like tasting perfection! At the end of the day, District Taco is definitely in our rotation of "go-to" places. I've been hearing about this food truck since we moved here. So when my husband told me they opened a brick and mortar in our neighborhood, I was in. This location is a pain to park at. The actual lot is very small and difficult to get into if you're coming from the SW. The inside is very bright and very much reminds me of a few taco places I've been to out west. My husband and I both decided on tacos (3 for $8). He got his w/ just carne & cheese, and I attempted to order mine 2 chicken, 1 carne Mexican/American style w/ no lettuce. I should've said Mexican w/ cheese and pico (noted for next time). He enjoyed his, mine were overstuffed. After some minor surgery, I was ready to try mine. I wasn't a huge fan of the chicken, but their carne is great. Comparable to some of the better places I've been to in AZ. The onion was a bit much, but the pico was good and the chiltomate salsa from their salsa bar was exactly the right choice for my taste. They also offer Boylan sodas instead of Coke and Pepsi. An interesting choice, but I guess they're technically closer to "Mexican coke" than the others cuz they're made w/ cane sugar. Love the non-mobile location of the cart. The people working here always seem cheerful and helpful! The place is always packed but the crowd moves quickly. Service levels were acceptable even with the place being busy though the order taking process took longer than desired. Food is excellent - you can tell it is fresh and flavorful! Love the tacos here - I always get between 2 and 3 and I wish I had more space in my stomach for a couple more. Like the carnitas and chicken tacos. Some amigos hyped this place up so I was excited to try. I got a burrito desnudo aka burrito bowl with carne asade, pico, cheese and lettuce for $7.00. Sadly, I was not bueno. My plate was well portioned and good for a hungry girl/guy, but it was nothing special- something I could have done on my own with rice, chopped up lettuce, kraft shredded cheese, and some chicken. It lacked flavor and authenticity, and I was not impressed. A pleasant surprise! Came in because my favorite Chipotle was closed on a Monday night in December for their "annual staff holiday party." The storefront location is a bit ratty, with a sort of college-student hangout vibe. The interior is painted in various rural-Mexicany shades of poop color. Loud background music, and loud talking, and squalling brats in high chairs, and you have to order, then wait for somebody in back to make your stuff, unlike at Chipotle. BUT - hey, the food tastes great! Well-seasoned grilled chicken, tasty barbacoa, nice black beans, very flavorful flour tortillas. Salsas adequate, if a bit thin and bitter for my personal taste - but at least they don't drown out the tasty meaty goodness. Excellent atmosphere, fresh ingredients, reasonably priced. The good: This place is literally a hole in the wall kind of restaurant. If you kind find parking out front, make sure you use the correct door to prevent yourself from looking like a total noob. The menu is very friendly for first timers who aren't sure about what toppings they want (go for the American Way). We managed to get there right before the dinner rush which saved us time in line and the wait for our food. Once it arrived, the chips were just the right kind of crispy and the salsa was clearly quite fresh. The lettuce and tomatoes in my burrito desnudo were so fresh and juicy that it almost overpowered the entire dish (come on, you can't really complain about product that is TOO fresh). The bad: My oh my parking at this place is horrendous. This was my second trip and I wasn't as lucky to find parking out front on the first visit. It also gets a little pricey, but I guess that's what you should expect from a place in North Arlington right on Lee Highway.
