I used to enjoy this place weekends late at night for a different vibe than all other downtown…read morebars. But then I went here Saturday night around 1 am and was charged a $5 cover. When did they start that? Why? To kill off their business obviously. The door man told us we'd have to wait a few minutes to "clear some people out," so I'm thinking it's packed and poppin'. Cleared out, yes, poppin', no. Basically, I will return again only if: I'm too drunk to remember why I shouldn't go here or if I have a date I want to dance with alone on the dance floor. Or maybe take a dump in the bathroom since it's not too busy and I could have privacy. All three above scenarios seem unlikely, so I won't be back any time soon.

Knock has to be one of the coolest bars in the Harrisburg area, and I cannot wait to go back…read more I recently visited Knock during Harrisburg's parade day, after a long day of day drinking. My best friend, who lives locally, told us about the place. We were hesitant leaving the comfort of 2nd street, but we followed her down Pine Street and stopped at the entrance to "Madam Knock's Pine Street Beauty Parlor." After giving the bouncer the weekly password (this can be found on their facebook /knock.hbg, twitter @knock_hbg, or instagram @knock_hbg), we went up a flight of stairs and entered the Beauty Parlor. The Beauty Parlor was set up perfectly, and after giving the password one more time, the bookshelf vanished to the side.... and TA DA! We entered the Speakeasy, a whole new world. The music was pumping, the drinks were flowing, people were dancing, the lights were low, and we were in for a good time. The entire bar/ club has a Prohibition-era style fashion with dark hardwood floors, lots of purple, and chandeliers. The bar was located all the way to the back, which is also where the exit is. There is a dance floor in the middle, and centered is a DJ. There are a few seating areas in addition to the VIP sections. I think there was a total of 3 VIP sections which ran about $250 + per a night. The drinks were fruity and presented well- I wish I could comment on the price, but I really can't recall. You can browse their drink menu on their website. Knock is only open on Fridays and Saturdays from 9 PM until 2 AM. This is a Harrisburg MUST.

Great service, good food, basic menu but customizable…read more Trying the breakfast spots around town. Lots of places not open till 7 or 8. This was one of the few places that was open, so came here for food. The ambiance is nice but old. This was a swanky place in the 00's but the times have changed. Not too far off from modern styles but not bad. Server was very kind, let me peruse the breakfast buffett and decide on my meal options. The buffett was very standard, pancakes, biscuits and gravy, bacon, assorted pastries, you know the drill. I looked through their menu and asked if they could do a French toast. They said it was on the menu and it wasn't. I then took a gamble. I told them to warm up some bananas and brown sugar and place that as a sauce on top of the French toast. Essentially trying to force them to make a impromptu bananas foster type French toast They tried, and the results were pretty good! They didn't actually warm up the bananas and brown sugar. Instead they warmed up the bananas and sprinkled brown sugar over the dish. They did add extra cinnamon so they mostly got it right. Then they put warm maple syrup on the base and put the French toast on it Although execution wise it was a slip, the flavors were all there. The French toast was custardy and cinnamon forward with the brown sugar, warmed banana, and maple syrup made for a great sweet bite. Price was 14 with the add-ons (not pictured is a very large bowl of vanilla ice cream. Little too big to add into pictures) which also included orange juice, coffee, and a side fruit. You get your money's worth for sure. Overall, a pretty successful gamble. Not the best breakfast fare but they go above and beyond for the customer.

We were visiting Harrisburg for about a day and a half so we didn't have a lot of time to check out…read moreall that the city had to offer. We were staying in the Crowne Plaza Hotel and since we didn't do too much research on the various restaurants in the area we ended up at Restaurant 23 because we thought it would be convenient. We were wrong. INTERIOR: The restaurant is located in the Crowne Plaza hotel and in viewing the photos from the previous reviews, it seems they have remodeled and added some pretty nice upgrades! ...But i'm afraid that's where the compliments end. SERVICE: This was a really nice restaurant. We were thinking the service would be great! We were wrong. To be blunt, service was terrible. We arrived about an hour and a half before closing to get something to eat before retiring for the night. There were only a couple people dining so we figured it shouldn't take long to eat and go. We were wrong. Our food took a little more than hour to arrive. How?! At that point we were the only couple in the restaurant. But we'll get to the food in a second. It took a bit to get seated and it took awhile for the waitress to greet us. We had a chance to check out the menu before arriving so we already had an idea of what we wanted. We didn't notice it at first because we were just looking at the food but at some point we noticed,at the top of the menu in big bold letters, they misspelled the name of their "Reastaurant." That is such a huge oversight considering "Reastaurant 23" was on every single menu and no one noticed. But okay fine, they didn't proofread but that doesn't mean the food isn't good. We were wrong. 45 minutes passed and the waitress told us that she checked on our food and it should be ready in a little bit. Once again, we were the only people in the "reastaurant" and there was no real explanation of why it was taking so long. Maybe they forgot the order. Maybe she didn't put it in the first place. Who knows? 20 Minutes later our food arrives. Great, surely this was worth waiting for... It wasn't. FOOD: It also seemed like our food had been waiting for awhile because it was pretty much lukewarm. We ordered the Prosciutto Margherita Flatbread and the Mediterranean Shrimp Pasta. The flatbread had a little too much cheese and the sogginess of the bread was off putting. Despite that, after taking off some of the cheese and eating some of the parts that weren't soggy, it wasn't too bad. As for the pasta, the sauce was thick, flavorless and looked like it had been dumped out of a jar. The waitress was pleasant throughout but we had to hunt her down to get the bill and for her to pick it up. It was nice of her to give us 25% off the bill due to the wait but the whole experience was just sour. We should have just went to Mcdonalds and called it a night.

There's ppl of all walks of life that gather there that create a safe space, and community. My friend's son is the Dj there typically but tonight it was someone else who did a great job in his absence. Although I do enjoy going to this place tonight the new bartender was extremely rude, entitled, and did act accordingly. I stood up on the foot rest on the bar stool to cheer someone on singing and the new bartender who's name is not Bailey, Bailey is sweet and super personable, I don't know her name. It was my first time seeing her. She yelled across the bar for me to sit down. The way she handled it was extremely uncalled for because it was still early in the evening around 9:45pm. I was not belligerent or incoherent nor inebriated. No where near the capacity where I needed to be spoken to in that manner. I went outside to cool down and when I return my friend pulled her to the side to ask what happened and then ask for an apology. Her response was in a well manner and says well your friend was standing and the chair and I asked to sit down. So I chimed in and said "you see how nice you explained it to him, I'm not" and before I could finish my sentence she said She is not entertaining this conversation and walked away instead of taking accountability and apologizing for her rudeness. My friend asked for the check back he signs we go to leave and she continues to run outside and yell demanding the slips of payment threatening to call the cops and said we are banned. My friend threw the slips in the street and had an exchange of words with her. Had she apologized none of that would have happened. Prior to tonight I have never had any issues in that bar. Unfortunately, that bar may lose a lot of people if they continue to have people that worked in that establishment that cannot practice discernment and learn how to speak to someone

The cocktails alone are worth the visit. The bartenders really know their craft, and the alcohol selection, including local beers, is solid. My only real issue is brunch. Every time I've visited after 12 p.m. (brunch is served until 2 p.m.), there's been a problem--either they're no longer taking food orders, the kitchen is backed up with a 45-minute wait, or they've simply run out of food. It comes off unprofessional and could definitely be handled better. I've noticed this becoming a growing trend during brunch service in general, and while some people suggest arriving as early as 10 a.m. for the best experience, consistency matters. If you're offering brunch, you should be properly staffed and prepared to serve guests throughout the full service window. Period. It's especially frustrating when you've traveled specifically to experience their culinary offerings and hit a wall like that. Overall, if you're looking for a spot that feels like a New York-style dive bar with elevated drinks and solid food--if you catch it at the right time--this place delivers. Just plan strategically if brunch is your goal.
