The goal for the day: start at the top of beach just past the 405 and hit all the dive bars all the way down beach. It's rare that us DT folk or South HB folk ever get past Talbert. To us it's far! With street & city traffic it's kind of annoying. So a few of us piled into the Jeep and stuck to our local adventure. On a Saturday last afternoon this place is packed! Beer and wine only. Which is fine by me but we were of company with someone who "doesn't drink beer." So it was one and done. For my quick 20-30mins in here I'll give you a quick run down: - it's busy! - ample tv for the sports. - staff is pretty, very nice and attentive and fast. - the bar itself is very clean. - bathrooms are super clean! - pool tables and cold beers. - smoking area is right out front. - parking is easy. - you will fight for a spot at the bar. I was there last Wednesday & was having fun watching college football minding my own business. Bought a few rounds for the bar & the ladies were friendly, I spend around $300 w/tips & everything. Then the owner showed up & kicked me out for no reason. Im disabled from my right leg & use a cane, I got a metal bar & rods on my leg & could bearly walk. I had my folding cane in my backpack &:the owner didn't see it, I told him I was disabled but He didn't care &'threw me on the ground for no reason at all. I was fine just having fun. I didnt cause any trouble Im not like that. I even tipped the bartender $100 for doing a great job. My hands are all bruised up from landing on the floor & my back its all out of place now. Even my phone broked when He threw me on the ground. Im a disabled senior citizen & Thats not right to treat your costumers like that for absolute no reason whatsoever. I was just sitting at the bar being social. I been there before & never had any issues. Im just confused maybe they confused me with someone else, I still dnt know why He attacked me like that. One of the girls was busy hiding in a corner playing with her phone. The other, came over and solemnly asked us what we wanted. I know that this place is a dive bar, so I'm not critiquing the decor or cleanliness. This was my 2nd time coming here and most likely my last. I asked the server/waitress as to which stout beers they have (because stouts & porters are my jam). She didn't know off hand. Actually, she didn't know what I meant by "stout", so she had the bartender come over. I mean, I could see from my vantage point from approximately 20 feet away that there were only 6 taps, not a long list to ponder over. I let it slide because she was stunning. So the bartender comes over and I ask him which stouts are on tap. He tells me to repeat the question, so I do. He eventually says, "I don't know what you're talking about". Really? Stout is a type of beer? There's beer here, right? So i just said, just give me a "dark" beer. So I get Guinness in a can. A can. Everybody else in the bar has their beer in a bottle or glass. Me, a can. Oh well. Then the bartender looks over to my buddy and eyes his hat. He is wearing a baseball cap with the Free Mason symbol. Bartender was mistaking that symbol for the "G Phi G" symbol (an African-American fraternity, apparently), which is not even close. Bartender questions and gives my buddy attitude as to why he's wearing the hat, acting as if he was gonna knock it off his head. We were seriously expecting a punch to be thrown by said bartender. Buddy confirms that he's mistaken, and bartender moves on. Suffice to say, this was not a good experience, especially with the triggered attitude. We won't be coming back. read more

Dive bar with a couple pool tables and good music always playing. It is a laid back, chill atmosphere. The drink prices are fair and they have several local and craft brews on tap and a bunch of bottles, cans, seltzers, and teas in the coolers. I went on a tuesday and was able to shoot pool for free all night. The bartender, Airica, was lightning quick with her service and even had some time to beat me in a game of 8 ball. This girl can shoot pool. Dont be surprised if she beats you too. Overall, I will give this dive bar 5 stars out of 5 stars. It's Two Star Tuesday Again... I met a friend here cos he wanted to go to HB's only bikini bar for MNF. Distractions offers name brand beers in bottles like Pacifico for 2 for $7. However, they don't offer a full bar nor do they offer food. In addition, they don't attract good looking clientele..... There was one girl in a bikini working the night we visited. She was aight: Fake boobies, piercings, tattoos, and a fit body - Garden variety. I would have posted a pic, but she declined my offer to take a pic of her and her masterpiece: A house of cards made of coasters. It was really busy that night ;P. She could of benefited from some CFMs, but she might have looked like the girls at the Vietnamese mafia owned bikini bars or coffee houses in Westminster & GG (Info from word of mouth - LOL!). There are two pool tables as you walk in, a decent sized bar, and a few tables. However, there were flies in the very small restroom: Nasty!!! Despite the foregoing, the service was OK. My comment regarding the looks of the clientele in the place are because there were no "Distractions", and I was the best looking person in the place (that ain't saying much!!!). Very simply a nice local beer bar. Good TVs, ask to get your event on the TV infront of you. Sunny is attentive even with a full bar. Food is available from a nearby restaurant that will deliver your order. Mondays are good for newcastles. Almost every day has a special and there is never a cover charge. The bill said $6.75 so I gave a $1.25 tip totalling the bill to $8. Except when I get home a few days later it shows up as a $26.75 transaction. Starting at Joe Jost's on a small barhopping Sunday Funday with Yelp bud Laura R and her hubs, we chose this bikini bar for our 3rd stop. Nino and I had both seen that they were nomiated in the OC Weekly for OC's best bikini bar. Hmmm, how many choices are there? We were greeted by a very lovely and friendly bartender in a practically naked state. She told us her story of being from Utah and a Mormon, and wanted to expand her view of the world. Yep, if you are working in a bikini bar in HB and grew up Mormon, I would say you are definitely experiencing life a little different than most Mormon lasses. The place was semi-dead late afternoon which afforded us the luxury of running the internet juke box. This bar is horrible! I went here about a month ago with some friends and I will never go back! As soon as we walked in we were mad dogged by the "locals" and automatically felt like maybe we should leave. But whatever, we came all this way so we had to at least have a beer. As soon as we sat down at the bar, the counter top was very sticky and dirty. We asked the lady behind the counter if she could wipe it down for us and she gave us a HUGE attitude. Once she wiped it down she told us to move because there were people sitting there. (There were only 6 people in the bar and there were no drinks on the counter top). I ordered a Lagunitas, but did not specify Brown Shugga, not realizing they also had the Lagunitas IPA on tap right next to it. The bartender poured me the Lagunitas IPA before I realized that it wasn't the Brown Shugga. She also did not ask me which Lagunitas, and told me there was only one Lagunitas. When I pointed out the other Lagunitas, she said they're both IPAs, at which point she said I could drink what she poured (not what I wanted), or get out. What a bitch; so I left, never to come back. The Bar: Hours 11am -2am 7 days a week. Located in the corner of a strip mall next to Fuck-It Thai (Phuket). For whatever reason, the sign is not in front of the bar. Walking up to the place, it looks as if you are walking into a freezer or a meat locker as the owner referenced it. Once inside, you'll immediately notice the gorgeous bartenders. The bar is L-shaped seating about 10 people. There are 2 booths in the corner and some scattered tables. This is a new bar, open since August 2012. From what I heard, the previous bar in this location was a complete shit hole. The new owner Alex has really changed it. Very nice inside, very clean. The Crowd: Men.... almost all men...1 female patron the entire night, everyone was chill though. Service: This is a hard one to explain. I suppose if I was just a random it might take a minute, but when the staff knows who DBC is, let's just say lightening fast. Prices: 5 beers on draft. $12 pitchers, $10 during Lakers games, and $5 Tall Cans of PBR. Entertainment: Internet jukebox, which you can link to your phone and play music from your table, which is very entertaining when you choose a song like Barbie Girl while some macho dude is standing there choosing music. 2 incredibly nice pool tables ($1) with straight sticks. Heads-up poker game. Free pool on Tuesday. Free Wifi. Restroom: Other than being a diamond plated death trap, it was pretty nice. Bartender: The poison pushers for tonight were Britni & Britney. Closing statement: Other than being a bit pricey for a dive, and not having liquor, it was a good time. The bartenders were hot and the patrons were cool. The owner Alex is awesome.
