DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE. They ran the direction of the counter in all different directions, nothing matching. Kitchen has it changing from left-right to front-back in the middle of the counter. All four of the bathroom vanities run in different directions and the backsplashes do not match the vanity tops. One side runs the same the other is turned 90 degrees. They never gave us a layout. The stone wasn't sealed so water marks showed everywhere until we sealed it ourselves. There are tape marks on the kitchen surface. They sent three people with bottle of Bar Keepers Friend to fix it. Didn't work, still have tape marks. What a mess they made of some beautiful and expensive quartzite stone. read more

There are many granite suppliers. I continue to choose this one because of their service and their follow up. I visit their shop often and they're always improving their operations without passing off the costs to me. They have a vast array of choices of materials. They've done no less than 30 homes for me and my clients. I've tried other companies, but they have always come up as the best. I highly recommend them for all of my clients and friends. read more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! It started out well and went downhill from there. We agreed on a price .... not the cheapest quote. I was told they needed $6,600 upfront for the almost $12,000 contract. When I got to the showroom with my checkbook, I was told they needed $7,200 instead. which I paid on the spot. They always seemed to be pushing for money so much that I asked Grace, the project manager, if the company was having financial problems. Stone was to be shipped from AGM in Charlotte ...great people to work with. Shipment was delayed for at least 1 maybe 2 weeks while they held my money. Stone finally got to Columbia where I, using blue tape, marked the layout. Installation was scheduled for that Friday. Then they had problems with the saw. Installation was delayed until a Tuesday ..... over a week later. At 5:14 the afternoon before installation I was emailed a quote of $1,100 to polish the underside of the eating bar area. This quote was for $20/ sf for 55 sf . or the entire island slab. This included the area that would be over the dishwasher and cabinets. That made no sense. This overhang was to be included in the original price. Upon installation, the gap between the backsplash and the upper cabinets was huge. West, the salesman, looked at cell phone picture and said it was within the 3/8" allowance .... over the cell phone. Their install crew even apoliged for the poor cut. I was billed for the remaining $250 that night which against my better judgement I paid. I am having trim installed to cover this gap. Back to the blue tape layout. There was one section that I did not like and placed a big blue tape "X" on it so it would not be used. They used it anyway. At the left of the sink is a crack. I wish that I had used anyone else. read more

Distinctive Surfaces installed defective Dekton products in my kitchen. Surfaces were cracked and chipped on every counter top. The installation itself was sloppy, measurements were not accurate, and adjacent slabs were not book marked. I have 3 opinions from other professionals on whether this job can be fixed or if it needs to be ripped out and redone. All 3 have said the job needs to be redone with new products. Some of their comments were: "awful ", "well below industry standards ", "worse installation I have ever seen". In addition, the installers damaged a new oak staircase by dragging the slabs over it even though I instructed them not to use that entrance. The company has refused to remedy the situation except to "reglue. The other installers I consulted stated that the wrong adhesive was used to begin with. I do not trust Distinctive Surfaces to redo this job. They have no quality control on their products and their installers are unskilled. I want my money back. They are refusing. The owner and his minions spend a lot of time making excuses for their lousy workmanship when they should be focusing on solving the problems that leave so many clients unhappy read more

We worked with Distinctive Surfaces over the course of a few months. Granite countertops are expensive so we did not ever feel pressured to hurry up and make a decision. If anything, they need to be give an award for their unending patience with us. Our project had two phases. The first was for the kitchen countertops and then the next was the fireplace. I also liked their very clear procedures. Once the stone is cut, it's cut. Therefore, I absolutely appreciated their procedures and making it very clear what we were to expect in terms of outcomes. Some other granite place in Columbia gave us a lecture on what modern design is when they got it totally wrong and cut the stone wrong. In the end, it's about what the client wants and not what the seller wants. You get that type of respect form Distinctive Surfaces. On top of that, their pricing is reasonable and at par or better than other places in Columbia and believe me that we looked at a lot of places. If I had known what we would experience with that other granite place, we would have bought everything from Distinctive Surfaces. read more

Distinctive surfaces installed our waterfall island countertop in March of 2022. The cut out for the cooktop is too large and the cut is uneven. They had all of the specs on the cooktop when they fabricated the island quartzite. We brought it to their attention soon after the installation. The owner agreed that it was their error and they would find a way to resolve it and make it look finished. He recommended removing the backing of the cabinet behind the cooktop unit, pushing the entire cooktop unit back to cover the gap and then replacing the cabinet backing with similar quality wood. We agreed. The cabinet backing was removed the cooktop was pushed back and the gap was 95% covered, but when he went the workers to replace the cabinet backing they were not properly supervised and pushed the cooktop right back to its original location again exposing the gap and the jagged cut in the countertop. We brought this to their attention and after several weeks, another person was sent out to evaluate the issue. This time the decision was made to fabricate a piece of metal to cover the gap that would match the cooktop. The measurements were made, but we still have not received the trim piece. Our general contractor has tried to get this resolved without success. It has now been 10 months since installation. I have left a message for the owner and sent an email and have received no response. This countertop was extremely expensive. I have now reported this to the Better Business Bureau. They have tried to contact the business as well with no success. I have been patient and cordial in this matter, but I do not feel we have been treated fairly. read more

Chris and Lauren are great! They installed beautiful counters for us a couple years ago and they have such a good eye for the right granite and how to lay it out. It transformed our kitchen. I recently chipped the counter and they sent the nicest, well mannered, talented guys out to fix it. I cannot say enough about how great the purchase and the repair went. We just did a complete kitchen and dining room renovation and designed it with all new kitchen cabinets, a bar and a ten foot island. We had looked at several places for the granite but our cabinet person insisted on using Distinctive Surfaces. I work in downtown Columbia so the location was great during my lunch hour. Selection was impressive. The staff explained everything about their products and how to care for it once installed. For cost savings, we went with one of their basic lines and my counters are gorgeous!! And they were the best price we had seen. A team of three installed all five slabs in just under one hour and did an excellent job. Spotlessly clean! My neighbor was so impressed that she went to them and got a small piece of granite for her guest bathroom- just as great!! Hers are white and soft gray and look perfect. I visited Distinctive Surfaces after receiving a recommendation from a friend. I was interested in a small upgrade project (master and guest bathroom counters) but the showroom worker made me feel like a priority. I was guided through the showroom and even the remnant yard to help me see every possibility until I was sure I'd selected the perfect granite. The installation process was easily scheduled around my preference (even on a Friday evening!). The workers were professional, fast, and clean. Horrible experience Owner showed up late for appointments twice. Did not show up at all for a scheduled appointment to do the final check list. I had to have them replace a section that was cut wrong that they covered in epoxy instead of installing a new piece. Christian seems to make promises that Lauren will not honor. I purchased quartz from Distinctive for two bathroom vanities. From day one when I visited the showroom I was met with professionalism and knowledgeable help. My representative was Sam Maloy and he was very helpful and patient with me. I visited a few times to look at samples and Sam was again very patient and did not mind pulling out the samples again and again for me so I could be sure of my selection. I even visited their supplier in Charlotte, NC. The communication between Distinctive and the supplier about the quartz I chose was quick and precise. Sam was so thorough he even pointed out to me that the back splash may not fit with my choice of faucet. That there may not be enough space between the two. He was right. Even though this meant they would not make as much in the sale if I didn't install back splashes he was on top of all the measurements so as to avoid problems during installation. The installation went just fine and the installers were professional and courteous. They were running a little late for arrival but I did receive a phone call informing me of this. I would highly recommend Distinctive Surfaces and I will be using them again in the future for our next project. Hopefully I can work with Sam again when that time comes. read more

Our kitchen and bathroom counters are beautiful. They are exactly what I was hoping for and the product is perfect. Working with distinctive was the opposite. We got great information and felt comfortable making an over $7000 purchase with them after our initial meeting with Christian. After that, it fell apart. The man who measured our counters had to come back twice due to forgetting pieces, and still measured them incorrectly which we discovered at installation. When the company came to rip out our old counters they were over an hour late due to being given the wrong address. (We called to give exact directions to the company) Initial installation was to be between 11-2... by 3 no one had called or shown up. When we finally got ahold of someone they said they had been given the wrong address by distinctive again and were running behind. Our backsplashes did not fit as we were told they would do they tore them out. A few days later they came to install... again over an hour late with no call. We waited for our island to be installed as it takes longer for butcher block to be ordered. Again day of installation no one arrived at the designated time. We called and were told they hd no way to wrap the counter and they were finding a way to bring it.... isn't this what you do daily? The communication was terrible and constantly having them come to our home/arrive late and unprepared required us to take extra days and time off work. It was a huge headache and source of stress. I emailed Christian after this experience and got no reply. Even some of the contractors they have working for them complained to us about the lack of communication and unprofessionalism of distinctive. We were very dissatisfied with distinctive and would not recommend them, most products can be purchased through other companies with competitive prices and im certain better customer service. read more
