Because this barn, or as Walt called it, "my happy place" is where all those magical ideas first got their start. When you go inside, you'll see many ideas built on happiness and some neat-o Disney history, too. A mini train ride around the property is also filled with little surprises to put a smile on your face. THE BACK STORY: Carolwood Barn served as Walt Disney's workshop where he spent many hours building miniatures and 1/8th scale model trains. It's been said that the barn itself is where Walt's original "imagineering" ideation sparked the inspo to create Disneyland Park. Originally, the barn was located in Holmby Hills and named after the street where he lived, which was Carolwood Drive. Later in 1999 after his passing, his daughter bequeathed Walt's hand-laid tracks to the Los Angeles Live Steamers (LALS), who maintained a rail museum in LA's Griffith Park. Fun fact: Walt was one of the founding & charter members of this locomotive enthusiast group (LALS) that formed back in 1956. So I guess the train story comes full circle. Carolwood Barn is open on the third Sunday of each month (11am-3am). Note: subject to change without notice. Admission is FREE, parking is FREE, and LALS members serve as volunteer hosts, and take you on train rides. So be nice to them, they're out there donating their time for free. Now if you're a train enthusiast, you can be a member too. Membership Perks: Help lay track, maintain signals, transport passengers, and operate live steam, diesel, or electric train engines from 1″ scale (1:32) to 1.5″ scale. It's a $100 annual fee and even kiddos can get a $20 Junior Membership. See, you can easily join the OG Walt Disney Club (Mickey ears are optional).

As a sidenote, while you're in the area, you may as well check out the LA live steamers just next-door. And don't forget the merry-go-round in Griffith Park because that's where Walt developed the idea for Disneyland, and where Disneyland original blueprints were designed for!

While small it's very serene and has mostly everything a traditional Japanese garden needs. The teahouse has some events but it's rarely open. You need to really pay attention to their website and keep checking back the event page. I find this is the most current, even more than their Instagram. I saw an event for matcha tea whisking workshop, but it was sold out unfortunately, but it looked cool and I was able to catch a glimpse inside of the teahouse which looks very traditional. The garden around the teahouse is open Mon-Thurs 10am-3pm. This is a really cute place to stop by if you live in Glendale/Burbank and walk around and sit near the pond or bring a book and sit in the grass. If you live farther just be forewarned that the gates to the garden are not always open when they say they are open. I've been here around 3 different times, and it wasn't open which was really annoying because I don't live anywhere near Glendale and I came out specifically to see the garden. The best bet to go is when there is going to be an event at the teahouse that way you can be certain or if you are already coming out here to go on a hike in the mountains behind the park. Parking was also a bit of a hassle - the guy mentioned some issues with parking. My son absolutely loved the car VR game, and the others too. However, it's a bit pricey for our budget. The amount I paid could have easily lasted me 2 hours at Chuckie Cheese (peace!). This place is more suitable for teenagers or adults who want to hang out, rather than young children. It might be a good option for parents with young kids who want to chat while their kids play in the playground. The place is small, but they have some impressive equipment. The staff are incredibly helpful and nice with all these gadgets- I cannot assist my son. 3 stars for the pricey games, 2 for parking and 4 stars for the staff- do the math, I will still recommend for you to try and experience the fancy atmosphere.

Being someone who…read moregrew up with the fighting game arcade culture of the 90s and 2000s, I was THRILLED to see that had cabs for many Capcom FGs like Capcom vs SNK 2, MvC2, SF3 Third Strike, and even newer titles like Street Fighter V. Now if they had some Tekken cabs, then everything would be perfect. They also had lots of music games and racing games like Maximum Tune. The arcade part itself elevates my score for this place. With my recent trip as part of a group of parents planning for an impromptu after party for the cast and crew for the St Genevieve Parish Schools Musical production's closing weekend, I was amazed at how the Round 1 crew were receptive to our needs. We reserved a karaoke party room for about 30 kids. Louis took down my number for the reservation, and he was very nice and accommodating. We did have to wait about an hour for our party room to be ready, which was fair. Meanwhile, my group of teens entertained themselves with MULTIPLE takes on the photo booths, surely to satiate their social media needs. When the karaoke room was ready, fun and memories were made not just for them, but also the parents. Truly a wonderful time. Now for the dark side of this review. Though Louis was awesome, he did mention that I should get a text within 5 minutes confirming my reservation. It was almost 30 minutes and still never received a text, and when I talked to Louis about it, he said that I had to connect to the Round 1 wifi in order to receive text updates. Rather unintuitive, I thought. But Louis did assure me that it didn't affect my place in line, which was good to know. Also, the thing that brings my score down... the food. I ordered the buffalo wings. Not only were the wings not of size, but the watery buffalo sauce was just thrown in that I may as well have had a buffalo chicken soup. Also, though they did not charge me for a pitcher of water for my singing teens, they did charge the other parents that I was with for the exact same pitchers of water. At that point, I was telling myself it must have been my charm that got me free water lol. All in all, Round 1 is top notch when it comes to fun. It celebrates arcade culture of yesterday with their fighting games, music games, and driving games, while providing photo booths and claw games with kawaii merch that today's youth adores. Just please, eat somewhere else before coming here. The mall's food court right outside the entrance has some nice options. Or... just don't order the buffalo wings.

I was disappointed to see record stores have dried up, but when I looked up comic book stores, this was near the top, and close to where I had lunch. Street parking is fairly easy, and I didn't realize that the first door I passed was another entrance to a café looking area. However, the main entrance was a visually impressive experience in its own right. Full of stimuli basically, that's assured at Revenge of... (the Nerds? Supes?). Love the name! In addition to comics and usual toys and nicknacks, I was delighted to find not one, but two areas devoted to pinball machines! Additionally, the interior design evokes lots of classic (e.g. Silver and Bronze Age) artwork. X-Men and Spider-Man definitely influenced the architectural approach. It's impressive and lends a fun vibe, as well as atmospheric lighting. Two café counters in different areas allow for drinks to be purchased, and lots of nooks and crannies have things ranging from vinyl records, board games, a discounted graphic novels area, as well as recent comic titles and weekly releases (typically on Wednesdays). The back issues are found in X shaped fixtures and spaced in a clever arrangement that simultaneously encourages and enhances browsing, and yet doesn't clutter the walking areas. I found several missing issues for my Conan the Barbarian run, and everything is bagged and boarded (archival terms), so that's good. I didn't explore the pinball machines as I was pressed for time, but I definitely see myself visiting when I'm nearby in the future.

I thought it was a timed entry but it is not...or it wasn't when we went. I followed the parking sign on the wall which led me to a lot just a little north of the museum. It was $20 to park there. Had I had more time to plan, I may have parked somewhere else as I felt that was a bit steep. I'm assuming metered parking would be hard to find in that location as it is in the heart of Hollywood. I thought it would be similar to the Museum of Illusions in New York, but rather than a museum feel, this was purely just photo ops. You can rent tripods at the front for $10. They also provide free lockers for your bags and stuff- which I would highly recommend. I didn't take up the offer in the beginning but soon realized that was a better option. I would also like to highly recommend and thank Tim! He showed us the ropes of how to take photos and he took some photos for us. He was friendly, professional and patient with my two young kids. He definitely knows his way around an iPhone camera and showed me some tricks I didn't even know. Tim's photos came out a lot better than mine as you need to find the perfect angle for the pictures to have that illusion effect. The tickets I purchased online also allowed us to go to the giant house next door and the upside down house. Tim came to the rescue again and took some amazing photos for us in the upside down house. It was a fun experience for all of us and I would definitely recommend visiting this location. If you see Tim, ask him for some pointers! Thank you, Tim!

There are several photo-friendly illusion setups that make for some cool and creative shots. We bought the bundle deal and also visited the Upside Down House and the Giant House. While those were interesting to see, there still wasn't much to do at either location besides taking pictures. One thing I really appreciated was the front cashier--He was very nice and welcoming, which made the check-in experience pleasant. However, I don't think the visit was quite worth the price. It felt a bit too expensive for what it offers, especially considering the bundle included all three exhibits. The experiences are fun for photos, but they're fairly short and limited in activities. For the amount you pay, it would be nice if there were more interactive things to do or more areas to explore. Overall, it's a good spot if you're really into taking fun illusion photos, but if you're expecting a longer or more activity-filled experience, it may feel a bit overpriced.
