Open the third Sunday of the month. People were lining up 25 minutes prior to opening. Lots of people came in Disneyland merchandise which was a nice touch. There are three small areas to check out, which serve as a mini museum of various railroad memorabilia. I was surprised at the number of volunteers at each station. Pros: -free parking and admission. Donations are accepted in a box right after you enter past the gate. -they provide you a complimentary sticker upon entering to wear -there is a small kiosk to buy souvenirs Cons: -n/a Other: -although they have a restroom option, it looked like it was a trailer/port-a-potty situation -the time you wait in line depends on the pace of the people in front of you, so you may be waiting a while to get through the different sections if people stop and stay for a while to view an exhibit.

Yo will feel in Disneyland . But, it was the particular world for Disney. Where he was a child . It is really cool to feel him as a dreamer. You should take the trIn ride. I felt in the classic cartoon of Donald playing with trains. It is a magical moments in your day. Every third Sunday is free. Take your children.

Mr. Walt Disney, the brains behind "The Happiest Place on Earth!" Everything Disney is so fascinating! My +1 and I are Disney fans and the WALT DISNEY's BARN in Griffith Park has been on my list forever. Now that I actually live in LA County part-time, the barn made it to our weekend rendezvous for Father's Day on Sunday, 06.16.24! This worked out perfect because Public Open Days are the 3rd Sunday of each month from 11am - 3pm. Admission and parking are free. By 10:30am we arrived and parked in the adjacent dirt lot. In Disney fashion, there was already a pretty long line of fans sporting their Disney gear! It was hot, so be sure to wear your sunnies, hat, and consider a shade umbrella as there is no shade while waiting before the 11am opening time. It was neat watching the trains coming from the Live Steamers next door, which we decided to do after our visit at the barn. We were greeted by some friendly faces upon entering and were given a large Walt Disney's Barn sticker. The line for the barn was probably a 15-minute wait. It is a replica of Walt's workshop from the Disney farm in Marceline, MO. It is where Walt spent hours building miniatures and model trains. Some of the actual work benches he built are in here too! There's a small grassy area for folks to sit and listen to the live musician. A tiny shop filled with merchandise for sale. And the yellow Retlaw 1 Combine.

Loved that this barn is in Griffith park! Have been wanting to go for a long time, but the hours are super limited (only open every third Sunday from 11am-3pm). It was a fun free event for a casual Sunday!

Walt Disney's Carolwood Barn is a cool little stop for the true Disney fan. This is a miniature barn that Walt himself built on his ranch pre-Disneyland. It was designed from his memory of the family's barn in Marceline, MO. You cannot help but to become overcome with a nostalgic feeling when you step inside. The history just oozes from every beam, every photo, every model. Really every little bit of memorabilia. It is small but well worth the walk-through. A few notes - This is a free experience but donations are encouraged and welcomed to keep the memories alive. Expect a line to get into the barn itself. Be sure to stop and chat with the local train entheusiasts. They are a wealth of knowledge and have some good stories to tell. Most of all, take it all in and have fun.

This is another fun Disney hidden gem located in Griffith Park. Walt Disney lived on Carolwood Drive in Holby Hills, in 1950 Walt Disney built a 1/8 scale railroad at his residence named "Carolwood Pacific Railroad". Walt operated the "Carolwood Pacific Railroad" for family and friends until 1953, Walt later shifted his energy into creating Disneyland. The Walt Disney barn was built on Walt's backyard. In 1999, the Walt Disney family moved this barn here to the Los Angeles Live Steamers Museum to share some Disney history with the public. Walt was also a founding member of the LA Live Steamers. The Walt Disney barn is a time capsule into the mind of Walt Disney. The barn is a living showcase of his passion for railroading. The barn is filled with old photo's, train memorial, personal items, tools and a working model train. We visited the Walt Disney Barn on a special Christmas "Meet Santa" Day. Our daughter had an opportunity to meet Santa and have a picture taken with him. An elf was playing music as people visited. We arrived early and only waited in a small line for about 5 minutes. They had a great Santa, very friendly and gave a mini candy canes to all that took photos with him. The entire experience was complimentary. As you continue past the Walt Disney barn you will see a yellow train that you can walk into. The train is also filled with vintage Disney memorabilia and unique Disney antique's. On this day the last living Disney Imaginer Bob Gurr was there. Not too many people noticed him and he was not advertised. We also got a great photo with Bob. There is also a small shop to purchase Walt Disney Barn memorabilia; books, trains, clothing etc.. This is fun experience for the whole family of all ages. A fun treat if you have a Disney fan in your house. There is also a mini train ride starts at LA Steamers next door and circles the Disney Barn and property, the train ride costs $3 when in operation. Parking: Admission and parking is free, parking lot with plenty of spots. Cost: Free however they do have donation b ox with a suggested $5 donation but it is not required. (At time of this review they do require a vaccine card OR a negative Covid test.) Hours: Third Sunday of every month until 11am-3pm. Weather permitted.

Small, charming glimpse into Disney's passion for steam trains. You can see how the seeds of Disneyland were sewn here. Open and free every third Sunday.

Open every 3rd Sunday of the month , run by train volunteers .it shows memorabilia from Walt Disney who was a train enthusiast. His daughter move his barn to Griffin park .

Wow this place was crowded today, there was a line forming to go inside the barn right at 11am, when it opened. It took a good 20 minutes of standing in front of the barn until you can go inside to see all the treasures. Granted this place is free admission, and only open once per month - it sure is busy! I think more and more people know about it now. Definitely a fun place to explore and learn about the Walt Disney history and legacy. Hop over next door to check out the live steam engine trains too, only $3 per ride.

It's open today!

When I saw Michael D.'s ROTD, I bookmarked this place and made plans to visit it! What a great review by Michael. ..so well written! Walt Disney's Barn is only open on the third Sunday of the month between 11am and 3pm. How do we know? Alana and I had tried to get in in the past! We drove to Griffith Park in Los Angeles, got as close as we could, and took photos of what we could see through the fenced-in property. It was nothing compared to what is actually inside!!! For a suggested donation of $5, we got to browse around and look at personal belongings of a creative genius. I truly admire Walt Disney because he has imagination, foresight, intelligence, initiative, and positive attitude - qualities that I hold in high esteem! Just being in the presence of his "office" was so inspirational... I felt like I accomplished a huge bucket list item! Since our visit was in December 2016, we had a special treat: Santa Claus visited!!! The little children and tall ones like me were thrilled! The festive live music added so much spirit to the place! I felt like we were at the right place at the right time! So - when you come, bring your camera and don't be afraid to ask questions! The volunteers are so pleasant and friendly! The parking is free in the gravel lot or on the street. There's a gift shop if you want a souvenir and heaters in the corners of the building if you feel cold... I guess it would be different in the summer, right?

My souvenir magnet!

I thought it was a timed entry but it is not...or it wasn't when we went. I followed the parking sign on the wall which led me to a lot just a little north of the museum. It was $20 to park there. Had I had more time to plan, I may have parked somewhere else as I felt that was a bit steep. I'm assuming metered parking would be hard to find in that location as it is in the heart of Hollywood. I thought it would be similar to the Museum of Illusions in New York, but rather than a museum feel, this was purely just photo ops. You can rent tripods at the front for $10. They also provide free lockers for your bags and stuff- which I would highly recommend. I didn't take up the offer in the beginning but soon realized that was a better option. I would also like to highly recommend and thank Tim! He showed us the ropes of how to take photos and he took some photos for us. He was friendly, professional and patient with my two young kids. He definitely knows his way around an iPhone camera and showed me some tricks I didn't even know. Tim's photos came out a lot better than mine as you need to find the perfect angle for the pictures to have that illusion effect. The tickets I purchased online also allowed us to go to the giant house next door and the upside down house. Tim came to the rescue again and took some amazing photos for us in the upside down house. It was a fun experience for all of us and I would definitely recommend visiting this location. If you see Tim, ask him for some pointers! Thank you, Tim!

There are several photo-friendly illusion setups that make for some cool and creative shots. We bought the bundle deal and also visited the Upside Down House and the Giant House. While those were interesting to see, there still wasn't much to do at either location besides taking pictures. One thing I really appreciated was the front cashier--He was very nice and welcoming, which made the check-in experience pleasant. However, I don't think the visit was quite worth the price. It felt a bit too expensive for what it offers, especially considering the bundle included all three exhibits. The experiences are fun for photos, but they're fairly short and limited in activities. For the amount you pay, it would be nice if there were more interactive things to do or more areas to explore. Overall, it's a good spot if you're really into taking fun illusion photos, but if you're expecting a longer or more activity-filled experience, it may feel a bit overpriced.

Boasting over 110,000 square feet of exhibition space, the modern and curvy building spans over 900 feet in length, standing 30 feet above ground and bridging over Wilshire Boulevard. It's open and spacious - I love their placements of many art pieces on tables with no casing! You can get very close the the objects ... ALMOST touching them. But don't worry, there are plenty of security officers around to ensure all visitors stay away from the art pieces. The collection in this gallery is huge - like an encyclopedia museum, encompassing arts from various period and all over the world -- more from Latin America than other regions, it seems. If you are the kind of museum goers who must see famous pieces, you may be a bit disappointed here - though there are a few impressionist pieces by well-known artists. If you go without too much expectation and let whatever meets the eyes delight, entertain, amuse, or educate you, then you just might have a pleasant visit. Do plan a day - the Geffen gallery alone can take 3-4 hours! Other buildings may take another few hours. Except for LA county residents -- you can get in for free after 3PM so come enjoy this great place for 2-3 hours before closing, as often as you like!! My one wish is if they could be a bit more considerate to seniors -- the Geffen gallery is huge; when it was 3 minutes before closing, a group of us (very tired at this time) were near the south exit stairs, but were told we have to use the north exit and shoo'd away from the stairs that were right in front of us. I'm sure there are operational reasons. But a more accommodating visitor handling procedure would have left us a much better experience and a nicer last impression!

Of course, the place is already quite dirty as it is, especially since it's closing soon. Some of the rooms were cool. I like the balloon room and the lights, but some people should really read the rules. First off, this family blocked the stairway to get in. And one of the family members was this short, big guy who was just running in the balloon room in circles and popping all the balloons and kicking them around up over the walls. Now that's fine, but then me and boyfriend tried to make our way in and another couple too, were there. He continued to kick up a bunch of balloons, while me and another person was trying to take pictures. He even accidentally knocked down his daughter in the process. He was extremely obnoxious and even joked about it with his family members, who just laughed and took videos. Now most of the interactive stuff was bad. It was gross for the most part due to all the germs, dirt, and hair. The balls and balloons all have random dirty smears of brown and orange on them. The ball pit was very dirty. I assume they're not planning on sanitizing any time soon due to the exhibit closing down. Anyways, we go into the light room and the worker says stay in the path and don't the lights. After two minutes, all of a sudden these three kids run in and start going into the lights and grabbing them, she stares and doesn't say a thing to them. These kids are super rowdy so I say something, and then she says oh, yeah don't do that. Pretty useless in my opinion. Most of this stuff is geared towards kids, but my bar was already super low. Do not spend your money here. Go somewhere else.

I've visited the Getty several times over the years and at first I found it a little overwhelming because there are so many exhibits and paintings that it's hard knowing where to even begin. Eventually I decided to make a game out of my visits instead. I started using ChatGPT to give me lists of paintings to look for, questions to ask myself while observing them, facts about the artwork, and prompts about what I do and don't like about each piece. Weirdly enough, that completely transformed my experience at the museum and made each visit feel much more intentional instead of me just wandering around aimlessly pretending to understand everything. Highly recommend trying this if you're someone who enjoys museums but doesn't necessarily feel "educated" in art. As a huge Van Gogh fan, I was shocked to learn that his painting Irises is actually displayed here. I had seen some of his work at MoMA in New York City and somehow never realized one of his paintings was practically in my own backyard. If you love Van Gogh, definitely don't miss it. I also personally enjoy exploring the North Pavilion the most because it's where many of the religious paintings are located. The gardens are absolutely beautiful and probably one of the most photographed parts of the museum for good reason. Great spot for pictures, especially if you enjoy Instagram-worthy scenery. There are also several areas throughout the Getty where you get gorgeous views overlooking Los Angeles. The Getty also has two restaurants, several cafés/coffee carts, and recently added a lounge bar around the plaza level. The food is decent but definitely expensive (which honestly shouldn't surprise anyone at this point). The café areas sell salads, sandwiches, pita and dip plates, pastries, snacks, coffee, and alcoholic beverages. Personally, I don't think the salads are worth the $18-$19 price tag, so I usually just grab coffee, snacks, or occasionally a small bottle of champagne and save my actual appetite for afterward. One thing I appreciate is that they have charging stations in the entrance hall in case your phone is dying halfway through your visit. There are also multiple gift shops throughout the museum with a pretty wide variety of books, souvenirs, stationery, art prints, and gifts. I think weekdays are probably best if you want smaller crowds, but I usually go on Saturdays because the museum stays open until 9 PM and parking becomes free after 6 PM on Saturdays specifically. Otherwise, parking is usually around $25, though reduced rates kick in later in the afternoon. A few tips in case you plan to visit for the first time: - Bring a sweater or coat because it can get surprisingly cold and windy. - Download the Getty app beforehand so you have the map available. - Wear comfortable shoes because you will walk a lot. - And don't pressure yourself to "understand" every piece of art. Some aren't going to stand out to you and that's okay. - Be ready for traffic. The downside of the museums location is that it's smack next to one of the worst freeways known to man -- the dreaded 405.
