My favorite art museum in all of LA! Reserved time slots are required beforehand. It's free but parking is not! For those who are parking, I highly recommend going after 3pm because the price for parking is a bit less. I believe it's $15 but that could be different now. The price is not bad if you are split amoungs friends. Lots of art to explore! Super clean and beautful. Most of the rooms are beautfully lit. This museum has such an amazing view of the freeway and their garden. Their garden is one of my favoirte places because you can just come here and picnic. They don't say anything about bringing in your own food. It's a beautful place to catch the sunset!

We had a wonderful day at the Getty today. The gardens are beautiful and it's very pleasant to walk around. They have sun umbrellas that you can borrow as you walk around outside which is a really nice touch. It is free to enter and up to $25 to park in the structure (parking prices are lower later in the day). You can also take the bus there. From SFV you take the 761. The bus stop drops you right at Sepulveda Blvd and Getty Center Dr. It's a short 2-3 min walk to the free tram from the bus stop. This would be a great place for a first date or 50th date. You can even pack a picnic and eat in the surrounding garden areas. They have restaurants, snacks, beer and wine for purchase as well. Lots of portraits, paintings and sculptures in the galleries. They also have a few scavenger hunts for kids. If you want a leisure day, I would give yourself 3-4 hours to take it all in, but you can certainly stay longer.

It had been years since I went to the Getty Center, so it was nice to visit. You reserve a spot ahead of time for free, which opened about two weeks ahead of when we wanted to go. Entry is free, but you pay for parking (about $25, though cheaper if you come later in the day). The parking lot is huge, and you take a tram up the hill to the museum. When we walked in, there is a huge information booth and lots of people asking if we needed help/directions, and also they have an app that you can tour on your own. The app actually was very detailed, and I could tell that you could visit this place frequently and still see cool stuff. We loved the visiting exhibits. I liked the one at the research center that was about the provenance of a particular picture, how it was stolen and then recovered. The views from the museum are also spectacular, and you can easily see the whole city from there. We ate at the cafe that was nice. They also have a restaurant, a bar, and a couple of coffee carts. It was a hot day - and they have umbrellas everywhere for sun shades. I think every exhibit was interesting and well-curated. Lots of fun stuff at the gift shops.

What a magical place. Walking through the Getty and seeing art from all these different times and parts of the world was just amazing. One room you're in the 1700s, the next you're looking at Van Gogh, then Monet, then something that feels completely different again. It's like watching time change right in front of you. The collection here is unreal. We saw Lagrenée's Mars and Venus, Géricault's Three Lovers, Alma-Tadema's Spring, Friedrich's A Walk at Dusk, Manet's street with all the flags, Van Gogh's Irises, a couple of Monets, and even that little still life of the hen and the onion. I didn't expect to care about a hen and an onion, but I stood there longer than I thought I would. People always talk about the views and the gardens too, and they're not wrong. The art is the reason you go, but the whole place just feels special. If you get the chance, go.

Talk about one of California's top attractions and it's FREE. You'll essentially only have to pay for parking if you drive here. Parking fee starts at $25 per vehicle, with reduced rates of $15 after 3:00 PM and $10 after 6:00 PM it's free. After parking, you take the tram up with other people and after that, you enjoy your visit. The views are absolutely amazing. Even if it's a gloomy day, you'll find that the garden at the Getty is always blooming. My wife and I spend a couple hours here checking out all the museum paintings and antics. Aside from the interior, the views overseeing the mountains and cities are great for photos. My wife and I always take pictures at their garden near where the flowers bloom. The views here are so nice that my wife and I plan to visit again to have a picnic on the grass field where the garden is. Tons of people have picnics there due to how beautiful the spot is and the light breeze as well. There's also a cafeteria area on the lower levels at the Getty Center and it seems pretty popular, although never tried it before so certainly got to check it out in the future. Overall, a wonderful attraction and definitely a must visit even if you're a local. The scenes here are absolutely amazing and best part is that it's always clean and vibrant here. Staff is friendly as well which is always a plus. Multiple photo opportunities which makes this place the absolute best. They're known for their clean upkeeping so you know they're the best of the best.

The Getty is one of the top attractions in LA that is complimentary to visit. Last time I visited them was back in 2010. The parking is $25 before 3PM and $15 after 3. $10 after 6PM but the museum would be closed on the day we were here. We came by around 3:30PM on a Friday. It was still pretty busy. Taking the tram was easy to get up to the Getty and there were restrooms at the parking and at the top where you get off the tram. When we went the north exhibition was closed but there were still plenty to see. Love the irises from Van Gogh... and enjoyed a cup of tea after the museum visit. All in all was a great photo spot with LA and ocean in the back drop. Very pretty gardens and museum collections. Highly recommend checking them out if you're in town.

What a lovely place to spend a day! We paid for parking, and while you need a timed reservation, admission is free (so fantastic!). Every aspect of the property has been intentionally designed. We enjoyed several hours exploring and probably could have spent a few more. I'd love to go back again next time we're in LA! Be sure to leave time to explore the outdoor gardens and spaces, and taking a snack break (refreshments for sale) while you enjoy the outdoor seating in the courtyard is a perfect way to recharge midway through your visit.

Last time we visited it was about 8 years ago. Wow long time but pretty much the same. Very beautiful and informative. There are also guided tours available..... Not sure on the prices. The Getty Center, known for its architecture, gardens, and views, houses European paintings, drawings, sculpture, and photographs. Parking is currently 25.00 and the later in the day the cheaper it gets etc...... don't forget to make your reservations on line before. It's summer and it's really hot, there are umbrellas available but they are not allowed inside the buildings. Ok byeee!!

Last Sunday was my first time here, and it was well worth it! The museum has a great display of art pieces and artifacts. Even with 2 of the main exhibitions closed, I still spent about 3-4 hours here. The parking is $25 dollars during the day, but I believe it drops to $15 & $10 after 3pm & 6pm, respectively. The tram from the parking garage to the center and the entry itself are free, just be sure to reserve your time slot ticket before you arrive. Just a little detail I loved: they offer umbrellas for use while walking out in the sun! Make sure to pick one up on your way in.

Today's visit to the Getty Center has a bag of mixed reviews. Two of the main halls were closed to the public for services. This shortened our visit and was very disappointing. As far as the visit itself, it is still a beautiful place to come to. I don't know if they ever let the public know of closures. If they don't, they need to. This would explain the low attendance for the day at a place that is usually packed.

Karen T.

Admission to The Getty Center is completely free. All you need is to reserve a time slot in advance. It is an excellent place for taking photos and taking in the city views, as the campus sits atop a hill in Brentwood, overlooking the city, the mountains, and the Pacific Ocean. My husband and I spent about 4 hours here during one visit. The Central Garden was for sure my favorite sight to see out of everything. The garden is designed to change with the seasons, so it can look different depending on what time of year you visit. Free English-language tours focused on this garden are offered daily. Clearly, this is a must-visit spot for anyone visiting socal. It is one of socal's most famous cultural destinations, with plenty of tourists as well as locals visiting. The unique art collections, world-class exhibitions, and 4 beautiful gardens are all exciting parts to explore. If you are driving there, then parking is easy peasy. There is a huge designated parking garage. After parking, you can then take a tram up to the museum. I believe parking is only free after 5pm. If you get there any earlier, then you'll have to pay for parking. The price of parking is fully worth the experience.

Exceeded my expectations! Allow yourself the entire day to do this place justice. Order free tickets online. Parking is $25. Take the tram/enclosed train uphill. Gorgeous center with 4 big buildings filled with art, mostly European from the 1600s to 1700s but there is also much older art S well as more contemporary art. They do have exhibits that change. Lots of famous art by famous artists and also lesser known artists. Good job of grouping pieces and providing the history and explanations for each piece. There is the central garden with roses and a waterfall as well as a cactus garden on a rooftop to view. They have snack & drink carts, a cafe with good food options, a restaurant and a bar. We spent about 6 hours here! Highly recommend!

Sarah S.

The Getty Center is so gorgeous and you can spend way more than a day here if you really examined every crack & crevice of the museum and grounds. A few tips~~~ 1. Admission is free but you must pre-book your ticket - closed Mondays. 2 Parking is $25, eek! However after 3pm, it's $15 and after 5pm, it's free! 3. GPS here can be tricky - use N Sepulveda Blvd & Getty Center Dr, Los Angeles, CA 90049 for your directions. 4. You first park then must take a tram to get to the grounds. You will go through a security check before even boarding the tram. 5. They have their own App with maps, audio tours, and commentary. 6. You can pack a picnic or eat at their restaurants/cafes there but the picnic option is ideal! 7. Wear walking shoes and dress for the weather as it's indoor AND outdoors. 8. If it does rain, they have loaner umbrellas available! A cute touch. My personal favorite bit was the outdoor areas and cactus garden. So darn pretty! It's really nice to spend a day exploring The Getty Center.

It is outstanding what JP Getty was able to collect, the care with which the museum is curated, and the perfection of the museum's reconstruction of a villa from ancient Pompeii. It's absolutely gorgeous. Wonderful place to take friends visiting town for the afternoon. Don't forget to wander the exquisite gardens and patios. Having visited several times, here are some of the best tips that I've learned over the years: Don't confuse this museum with the Getty Center perched high on the hill in Brentwood. Visiting both museums on the same day can be rushed but has its perks. The parking at one Getty museum location is valid for same day free parking at the other if you want to visit both in one day. Admission is free, but advance timed entry tickets are required. When driving to the Getty Villa, slow down a bit and watch the signs carefully from the north on the PCH as missing the special turn lane for the museum can be a headache; missing it requires more driving on the highway before you can exit and turn around. Try going in the late afternoon around 3:00 PM. The crowds are smaller and you can catch a beautiful sunset over the gardens. If you can arrive before 1pm, try "The Garden Tea at the Getty Villa" (also known as 'Tea by the Sea'). Make a reservation in advance as it's popular. The tea service is only offered twice a week, on Thursdays and Saturdays at 1:00 PM. It's held on the second floor of the Villa's cafe in a private dining space overlooking the museum grounds. If you manage to secure a tea reservation, you do not need a separate timed-entry museum ticket because your tea booking automatically includes free entry to the Getty Villa starting at 10:00 AM.
