The problem with finding a quality rehabilitation facility is the reviews are not something most people want to advertise themselves affiliated with. The biggest issue I have amongst many with the Ennis location, is the fact that I initially went for 8 day detox only. During my stay, I had requested to continue the program to the full 30 days. Months after I left, I received a whopping bill for the denied time I was there - that's a huge bill. My insurance denied my request to continue care and nobody ever told me. They just let me stay and kept billing me without my knowledge or consent. Oh yeah- also, the facility is full of black mold. read more

I am writing this review so other families are warned. My 20-year-old son was admitted to Discovery Point Retreat in Ennis following a suicide attempt and substance abuse issues. While under their care, he suffered a seizure and was taken to the hospital. We were never notified, despite being listed as his parents and emergency contacts. After returning from the hospital, Discovery Point did not provide a discharge plan, medication guidance, seizure instructions, or parent communication. Instead, my son was dropped off at a gas station and effectively abandoned. We only learned what had happened after picking him up ourselves. A employee at the facility later acknowledged to us that what occurred was wrong and should not have happened. We were told the situation had been escalated internally to supervisors, and that a new administrator had recently taken over the Ennis location. We were further told that these unsafe discharge practices were tied to changes under this new administration and that similar incidents had occurred previously. We repeatedly contacted leadership at both the Ennis and Waxahachie locations seeking explanation or help. No one has taken responsibility. No one has followed up. Reading recent reviews, it is deeply disturbing to see nearly identical stories involving medical emergencies, lack of family notification, unsafe discharges, and abandonment. This appears to be a pattern, not an isolated incident. Due to the seriousness of what occurred, we are contacting the Texas Attorney General's Office, the Ellis County District Attorney's Office, the Better Business Bureau, our insurance provider, News channels and legal counsel. What happened here is not just unprofessional, it is dangerous. If this has happened to you or your loved one and you are reading this, please consider reporting it to the appropriate authorities so this does not continue happening to vulnerable people. Feel free to contact me if you need help reporting john at proudarts dot com If your loved one is suicidal, detoxing, medically unstable, or in crisis, do not trust this facility. What happened to my son could have ended tragically. read more

My daughter spent 28 days there in Innis, TX and an additional 60 days at intensive outpatient treatment in Dallas. I prepaid $21,000 up front so that she could get help immediately, on the condition that her insurance BCBS would reimburse me which they agreed to do. BCBS has denied my claim four times now and requested a 'Letter of Medical Necessity' from Christian Small MD, the onsite physician. I've sent at least a dozen requests for this letter and actually wrote a 'draft' for them, but after six (6) months now, I still cannot get the letter or get Christian Small MD to return my calls or emails. In the meantime, my daughter is right back on the alcohol and drugs and unable to take care of her 3 yr. old autistic son. The time I've spent trying to get reimbursed has exceeded 40 hrs. and has been a total nightmare, not to mention to the lost $21,000. read more

(1/5) Discovery Point Retreat is one of the most chaotic, unprofessional programs I've ever experienced. There is a complete lack of structure, communication, and basic professionalism. From the outside it pretends to be a supportive, therapeutic environment--but on the inside it feels cold, disorganized, and poorly run. Clients are treated like inconveniences rather than people who are vulnerable and trying to recover. Concerns are brushed off, boundaries are inconsistent, and there is little accountability from leadership. The environment feels reactive instead of therapeutic, which is dangerous in a setting that claims to prioritize recovery. What's even worse is how they treat their peer leads--the very people who keep the place functioning day to day. Peer leads bend over backwards, pick up the slack, and carry the emotional and logistical weight of the program, yet receive little respect, support, or appreciation in return. They are overworked, undervalued, and expected to compensate for management's inability to run the program effectively. This is not how a professional treatment facility should operate. A rehab should be grounded, compassionate, and organized. Discovery Point Retreat is none of those things. It feels less like a place of healing and more like a poorly managed business that doesn't know how to care for the people it claims to serve. I would strongly caution anyone considering this place to look elsewhere. read more

Discovery point retreat has been such a huge impact on my recovery. The staff and the setting is unmatched. They have done a phenomenal job monitoring so many different personalities and so many different aspects of our recovery journey. They do it with love they do it with Care. They do it with the best of the best who have been through Discovery themselves and and other professionals....Lauren and Alicia and Lucas have been huge with progress for so many people. Personally impacted my life in such a short time already with the love and care that they provide on a daily basis. They have the biggest hearts and take special consideration to everybody's recovery journey. I highly recommend this place. I know that I will never look back in my recovery journey because of the help they have provided! Also, Marcus, Dr. J and so many others.... They are THE BEST!!!! read more

DO NOT GO HERE!!! They are under investigation due to the fire alarm system not functioning for the last year! If it catches fire no one is coming because the system is completely off line! Some of the staff is amazing but management is horrible. They are only after your money and could care less about the safety and well being of the patients! It's an inpatient nightmare of a drug rehab! read more

This facility preys on adicts and their families when they're at their weakest and most vulenerable point of their lives. I was there for 30 days 2 years ago and provided my insurance to get in. Between myself and my insurance carrier, they were paid over $150k for 30 days ($5k/day). A year after being at the facility and insurance paid out the claim, they've pursued an additional $7,880.92 in additional charges that they could not explain what for. In my situation I Just wanted to avoid any credit reporting issues. I (supposedly) settled with them and paid $5,500 out of my pocket (see below). As you can see, they state that the account is settled'. I've continued to get 13 invoices for an additional $2,380.92. There's no way to contact their billing department and I just stack up the invoices and will not pay another penny. This all sounds unbelievable, but it is fact. The staff at the facility rarely showed up and the facility is run by a director that was never there. We were left to run meetings on our own with little supervision. I've connected with several other people that were there at the same time as myself and there are numerous similar stories. If you have a loved one that needs rehab, this is just a scam and once you provide insurance, they'll milk it for every penny the carrier will pay. Best of luck to all of you that are caring for anyone with an additiction, but this is NOT the answer. __________________________________________________________________________________ Current Patient Balance: $7,880.92 Settlement Amount: $5,500.00 This offer is valid for 72 hours from the date and time of this email. To take advantage of this settlement offer, please make the payment of $5,500.00 within the specified timeframe. Please note that upon receipt of the settlement payment, we will consider the account settled in full, and the remaining balance of $7,880.92 will be written off. read more

The Recovery Coaches, namely Cowboy (Lucus), Kim, and Rachel are the best, always willing to go above and beyond for everything and everyone. All the negative reviews are from those who left early and didn't complete the program. read more

DPR is an amazing place to come to if you are seeking recovery. Everyone here is so kind and they truly care about their clients. The Recovery Coaches here do everything in their power to make us feel comfortable and heard. A few names of the people that have done the most for me are: Markus, Rebecca, Marshall, Rachael, Lauren, Tara in nursing, Chef Jerome, Sam at Dallas, Emilio, Amanda in nursing, and so many more. This place is truly life changing. I highly recommend this place to anyone and everyone that is seeking help to change their life. read more

This is the greatest place for recovery I have never had a better chance at recovery. They have so much to offer the 60 +60 is the greatest thing I've ever experienced. DPR was an absolute answered prayer. After multiple relapses they surrounded me with love, taught me how to love and believe in myself again and gave me the tools I needed to successfully achieve and maintain long term sobriety!! Thank you DPR for helping me get my life back read more

Prior to Discovery Point Retreat, I had been to two other rehab facilities. The Ranch at Clear Springs and Greenhouse. Obviously the two previous didn't work well for my sobriety. I feel DPR had a more refined type atmosphere where everyone worked together as a group to learn about sobriety in a way that made much more sense to me. Now I'm going on to 14 months of sobriety and am a house manager at a sober living home in Plano called Russell Freeman Foundation. This was a huge change for me as I once worked for a private equity firm as a Senior Vice President. I had learned from DPR how to change my life situation and determine triggers and one of those was working in a high pressure position. My most notable take-a-way from DPR was working on my character defects and understanding in a practical way why our brains are wired differently from others who can control their consumption and in my case that was alcohol. I found the accommodations to be comfortable. By no way is this the Four Seasons. Rather a more boutique style country living environment. I always felt comfortable and the food is plentiful and of quality. The staff is very good. The doctor and therapist were all top notch. Of course there were a couple junior RC's that had big ego's, but that isn't any different from other places I've been. What I really liked is the doctors don't try to push 10 different drugs onto you unlike many other places. I was surprised that during detox they give you comfort meds to easy you off your addiction. It certainly made the detox more pleasant. I had a major issue with alcohol and benzos. Of course they didn't hand me a glass of wine every night at bedtime but did administer small doses of controlled substances that eased the pain. That only last 4-5 days then you are put on proper non-narcotic meds. Of course I'm sure this is a case by case situation. Families are highly encourage to attend Sundays so you can see your loved ones and check up on them. Also, clients are able to call home every day to check in. Normally, I am highly critical in my reviews. Mostly because I was a huge snob about accommodations , food quality and customer service. There are several options available of places to go in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. The main thing is getting into a place. I liked Discovery Point and I think you may as well. Good luck to you in your sobriety! read more

Literally a whole big fat money scam!!! You get maybe 2-3 hours a day of group and that leaves you with 22 hours in a big frat house. They actually tell your insurance they give you 6 hours of group a day however you're lucky to get two or three and the rest are if you make your bed that counts as a group if you play volleyball that counts as a group they advertise for their PHP in groups almost daily it's absolutely ridiculous. I quit smoking cigarettes 10 years ago but that is all there is to do here smoke and eat(if it is edible). We got lucky and some clients have been able to help the "chef" out and teach him how to cook. We had to make a petition signed by 30 of us just to get a vegetable incorporated in our meals. They fixed up one room completely and decorated it and painted it and that is the "showroom" they show you on tours, but that is not what the actual rooms look like. They are always at max capacity and the food is absolutely terrible sometimes it's frozen sometimes it's raw who knows what it will be. There is ZERO recovery going on here unless you create it yourself. They keep packing bodies in but the therapists do not have time to meet with you for actual therapy. Some of the clients that were in there for 3 weeks only saw their therapist one time!!!!! They are always understaffed so at one point there was 53 of us with one person which led to chaos. Hell I even took everyone's VITALS (not trained at all)due to one nurse being on staff for 53 people!!!! And many times the nurses gave people I know their night meds in the morning and one guy even got three times his night dose in the morning and got very sick and they still would not let him leave or make a complaint. We found a lot of our grievances in the trash and ripped up. It is not prepared for people with any mental issues because if you get emotional or aggravated in any form when you are detoxing the staff/nurses literally will argue and fight you back in the most unprofessional way I have ever seen. I've never seen anything like it. IF YOU WANT TO LEAVE OR CALL FAMILY THEY REFUSE TO LET YOU AND THEY KEEP YOUR PROPERTY AND THEN CALL YOUR FAMILY AND TELL THEM YOU WANT TO LEAVE BECAUSE YOU WANT TO USE OR DRINK, COMPLETE MANIPULATION. It's a total scam and it's definitely all about the money. In the 20 days I was there I saw at least 15 people cry and beg to leave and EVEN JUST BE TRANSFERRED TO ANOTHER FACILITY AND THEY REFUSED, three pretty sane and calm people even literally ran away and said keep my property that's how bad they wanted to leave. They went to familys house and family showed back up demanding answers and they have none just made up lies. They did not even realize one guy left for 7 hours! I promise you if you want to go to a real rehab do not go here unless you want to go to a big huge frat house with little supervision, stuffed in a room with four or five people, internet never ever works so there's no point of having a TV in your room, showers are usually ice cold unless you wake up at 3:00 a.m. to take it as the water tank cannot handle that many people. When I got there the capacity was 47 and then they made it to 50 and then they made it 53 so they just create their own capacity. You quite literally have to throw a fit and act aggressive if you want to leave or be transferred to an actual rehab. They lock up everyone's phones in a safe and refuse to let you use it hell they even refused to let me call a lawyer, client advocate or doctor... I was literally told I do not have rights. On their Bill of Rights on the wall when you walk in it says you have the right to make phone calls and have visitors however in the welcome packet they removed that part of which is highly illegal. We all started getting sick and they told us they could not afford any COVID, flu or strep tests hence the whole house got crazy sick. One guy even had them call the ambulance because he was so sick and he did not know what it was. They just hand out z-packs of antibiotics without really knowing. It turned out to be the flu which antibiotics cannot take away so everyone just took antibiotics for nothing. My provider was having a bad day and she actually cussed me out for asking a simple question about blood work. This place is a joke The pictures are a joke The advertisement is a joke and it is so upsetting because there are people who really want help and it's a joke to them. Please please go somewhere else or take your family member somewhere else. I left and I am heading to a different facility to get actual help. You don't go to rehab to hang out all day long and smoke cigarettes and be in drama. Not to mention there is people having sex all throughout that house and they know it! The chef was even doing sexual acts with a client in the back room that they keep all the food in. Don't believe the little tour they try to sell you. I am very grateful to be heading to a structured environment to get actual help. read more

Life changing experienc is the best way to discribe the discovery point retreat. When I first decided to take that step to recovery.I didn't know what to expect and a little scared, but they welcomed me just like a family would every step of the way.All through out my time in the program they taught me what my addiction truly was and how it not only effected my life but those around me.I learned who I was and gave me my freedom back to have a choice again. The staff was there every step of the way, firm, helpful, understanding and most importantly caring. If anyone is ready to take that first step to recovery,I would definitely recommend the Discovery Point Retreat.Their not just a treatment facility, their a loving family.I owe them my life.Thank You DPR for everything! read more

Why I would never return/recommend DPR: *When you're signing up, they act like the "program" is 20-30 days, but it's actually 20-30 detox/residential, 20-30 PHP, and 20-30 IOP. *I was surrounded by felons, gangsters, transients, people going in/coming out of prison, severe mental disorders...and no security and minimal observation. *Detox clients sleep in the same room as residential. *The food is garbage junk food. "Kiki" the supposed cook at Ennis bought mostly prepackaged garbage (even precut salad). Their "healthy food" was burgers, hot dogs, pizza, fried chicken, french fries, and so on. "Snacks" were Little Debbie style. "Kiki" the cook had an embarrassingly bad attitude toward staff and clients, which was ironic as her cooking qualifications wouldn't get her hired at Luby's. And every meal was at least 1/2 hr to 45 mins late. The first weekend she was over 2 hours late. *Staff openly argued with each other in front of clients. *Staff often talked about their upper management and how we all had to "look good" to upper management. I don't give a shit about their upper management. I'm the client. *Rules that we were handed out were not followed. For example, we were supposed to sign up for laundry use. Nobody did. Staff often gave conflicting direction on the processes and rules. The rule to bring 10 days worth of clothes was not followed. I was immediately told it must fit under my bed in a create, which was never mentioned. *I had to ask for just about everything: When is the next meeting? Where is the next meeting? When is dinner? When are meds? When are vitals? When do I see my therapist. They gave me a schedule, which they rarely followed. I've never paid so much to be required to ask for so much. *A physical assault happened right in front of everyone in the dining room and NO security was around (they don't have any) to stop it. Nursing staff were notified and they said it wasn't their problem to deal with. Police were never called to report the assault. *Drugs were found and the police were never called. *The client-to-counselor ratio is about 8:1. I spent maybe 20 mins 1:1 with a counselor per week. So much for "individualized" programs. Everyone does the same classes (if the classes are actually held according to schedule at all). *Large groups often descended into chaos and almost nothing was accomplished. *Staff often repeated, "We're working on XYZ and it will get better." Of course, I didn't care what got better six months later if I was there right THEN. *My first weekend they ran out of OTC meds, toilet paper, coffee, and there was no counseling available. *The staff held a meeting and told us to stop complaining about the "little things" like toilet paper because we were better off than where we were coming from? Really?! I was coming from a nice home with hot water, toilet paper, good food, and not surrounded by criminals. *The rooms have at least four people and I barely slept the first 3 nights due to a snoring roommate, even though I had earplugs and pillows over my head. Staff offered to give him another pillow and more meds. I slept on the third floor couch so I could sleep. So much for healthy living environment. *People openly sleep or diddle on their phones during group meetings. Nothing is done about it. I guess as long as the check clears? *The houses (residential and PHP) are overcrowded and simply no room to accomplish much toward sobriety like reading, completing workbooks, etc. It's a halfway house. *I learned more reading on my own (AA Big Book, SMART recovery, etc.) than I did from groups and the 20 min once-a-week "therapy" sessions. *The house rules are written for children and we're told things like, "We're going to Wal Mart as a privilege, so don't steal." Really?! *Discovery Point wouldn't authorize me to go back to work because I self-discharged due to the awful living conditions/environment. That's okay...screw you...my doctor signed one for me. My doctor's office also requested my medical records from Discovery Point...shocker...never sent. as a privlege, so don't steal." Really?! I would like to give my review of your Ennis location.I would like to start by saying this place was under staffed. And the staff you had on when I very first got there I observed was your medical tech the person that was supposed to be taking our vitals and such was instead of assisting her patients was standing in the dining area putting braids in this young man's hair it took her at least 3 hours to finish his hair mean while the had gangster rap blaring from the TV. The second day I was walking around the yard to get away from all the craziness in the house to see this swimming pool that was listed on your Web site and when I walked down to get in this pool there was a tampon floating in it. That is so nasty! Not once did I see anyone go clean it or sanitize it even after your staff was told about it.Your Web site says your medical staff place is run wplhelps us through our detoxing recording our vitals and such. Really cause what I observed was the clients recording their own vitals with the nursing staff no where in site. Also there blood pressure meters two of them we found didn't even give accurate readings. We tried several times and which it showed a different reading each time on the same person. That concerns me because I have high blood pressure in which I take meds and was feeling like my blood pressure was low too low and after testing it myself several times and finding it reading a different result every time.I am not giving this review because I think the whole staff was unprofessional and the place had absolutely no structure because there was a couple rcs that were helpful but for the most part your employees were walking around complaining how under staffed they were. While other rehab clients were sitting out back on deck complaining how they were getting nothing out of your groups because your therapist and instructors usually just let the clients run the programs and act like they didn't want to be there them selfs. Also one day when I was there I went to go out back to smoke and over heard this young man saying how he couldn't believe how he was able to bring in a half ounce of Fentynol in to the facility enough to get him through rehab which I also thought when I was admitted how crazy that I was never searched like I had been at other rehabs I guess cause they were under staffed but the young man finished his story by saying he had been in your facility for 3 days now being high on Fentynol in rehab every single day going undetcted by staff. What???How or why was that possible? Some clients come to your facility honestly hoping to get help from our addictions but we are unable to do this on our own so we cime to rehab hoping to get support and compassionate staff to help us through our detox and I so did not find that at your facility.I observed more bad situations and actually I could go on telling you Alot more but I won't. I did end up AMa ing after 6 days there I signed a 48 hour deal that I was planning to leaveuld get all my belongings. My phone my wallet and money and on the 48 hour mark I asked tge staff for my belongings they responded by saying they didn't hsvevthe keys to the safe to get it and wouldnt have till the next day i was furious because first of all why wouldn't the staff give me my belongings like we discussed giving them plety of time to get the keys from whom ever to get my stuff. I ended up leaving without my belongings because there was no way I was staying there one more day.I am from Checotah Ok which is 4 hours away. I began calling and requesting my belongings to be sent to me giving my address to at least send my State Id to my home address only to be told I was gonna have to drive back up to Texas if I want my belongings.why wouldn't they give me my stuff before I left?I am so angry I have been back home almost 2 weeks and I have several times requesting to talk to a supervisor only having no one return my calls.Or being put on hold on the phone so long i eventually hanging up.That is so butunprofessional why is staff treating your clients this way?True i am no longer a client but i would have stayed at your facility because I truly need help with my addiction but not now! I would never come there or recommend anyone I know to your facility.I am just wondering if Discovery Point the people whom own this place are aware of how this place is being run. Please call me my number is 9186175742 my name is KellyJo Stevens I would like my belongings read more

It's been two weeks and no one has updated me on the status of my grievance I filed the day I checked out. This chain of rehabs does not care about the clients especially when they have a legit issue. As long as you're smiles and rainbows, the like you. But have a problem with another client, be assaulted by said client and then refusing to call police on said client for assault is not acceptable behavior for ANYONE in a place of authority over recovering addicts. It's also not acceptable to spend over $30,000 on sub par care when this facility can not protect you from physical altercations with other clients. Like I said, the moment this woman assaulted me, she should've been immediately discharged, and promptly arrested. read more

I was researching a residential treatment center for my son in June 2022 near Dallas, TX. Gathered info from Brain at Discovery Point retreat (DPR). He asked my son's current inpatient facility where he took treatment. As soon as I hang-up, Brain called the facility, convinced my son with their offering services and talked to facility contact to setup admission at DPR. Though it was our decision to go to DPR, as my son is ok to get admitted, we took him to Ennis, TX facility. After 2 days, I tried to reach Brain to know my current status, to get Therapist contact and our next visit or family meeting etc. but could not reach him! Till today 7/6/2022, he did not respond to my calls! Understood he works at Florida location. Also, Brain told my son that Ennis, TX location offers horse ride/therapy, but this is not true. Bottom line, they push hard and quick to get us in but after joining, not enough communication from the therapist or Counceller or the marketing person Brain! read more

Do NOT send a loved one to this facility. My partner was admitted and after one night they felt his was having issues with his heart. They told him and I that they were transferring him to another rehab with additional medical treatment options. Hours later I received a call that Discovery Point dropped him off at the emergency room in Ennis Texas with no money or cell phone only three large bags of clothing! He was released from the ER and had no place to go. Discovery Point apologized and stated that should not of happened and it was a break down in communications. They were paid by insurance and charged me 895.00 copay for one night stay before abandoning him. Great way to help an already troubled young man Discovery Point. I have called several times to inquiry about my 895.00 and keep being told a supervisor will return the call but guess what no return call. Even more disturbing I have found another review stating their loved was dropped off at a hospital with no explanation. DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONE HERE! read more
