I do not come here for school - nor for kids - but for badminton and a great time with friends and what I would like to call my badminton family. Hah, I totally broke out in a smile while writing that. Every Friday and Saturday they have the gym open for badminton excluding some holidays. They have a schedule out front. Badminton is what a lot of people will consider very Asian BUT for your information it actually was played in European countries as well. Used to be known as Battledore and Shuttlecock and was simply two people hitting a shuttlecock backwards and forwards with a simple bat as many times as they could without allowing it to hit the ground. It was a upper class pastime in England and many European countries (Here's a site if you were interested in the brief history - http://www.bwfbadminton.org/page.aspx?id=14887). So just shedding some light on the history. Parking is pretty ample. Courts open up eventually and people play in twos against each other. Would say there are about 6 courts. If you are a beginner like me, you would want to stick around for when the court becomes free to hit the birdie around a bit. Practice makes perfect! And yes, you might want to bring a racket and mark your birdies. The courts are not as big as the badminton courts at Balboa but they are my favorite place to go on Friday and Saturday nights. If you do end up dropping by, do be respectful and make sure not to step onto the courts when a game is ongoing.

After seeing the full cycle from K-5 I can confidently say this school is terrific. My biggest fear was that because I don't speak Spanish that I would struggle to help my children but the interesting part is that my kids picked up Spanish quickly enough that they were able to translate the homework for me so I could help them with Math, Social Studies, etc. And with web tools like Google translate I can check their vocabulary pretty easily. If having a 2nd language is important to you (or just having a rock solid elementary school) then I highly recommend this school. I had to transfer my kids to this school since we live outside their boundaries and it has been worth the extra miles back and forth. I have also been there through 2 different principals / leadership teams and although they are different from each other in many ways their commitment to the children and the program is remarkable and felt through every part of the school. No, it is not a magical place with rainbows and unicorns all the time, it is a real school with real students and real teachers and the challenges that go along with elementary school but the focus is always on teaching and preparing children. The bonus: The on-campus ESS program - Love! Love! Love! their leader and team. They give me complete comfort that my children are cared for and their management of the children after school and during summer break is wonderful. They are well organized and good communicators and help with homework as well.

There is an application, and parents truck their kids in from all over to get their children involved in the school. It is amazing. There is a traditional track that struggles now and then with test scores, but the immersion program is like a little private school tucked inside a public school. The kids are accepted in Kindergarten, and stay with the same group of students all the way through 5th grade. The best part is these students are fluent in Spanish, and can move on with a special skill.

What we love most are the school's Christian-based story time, themed learning topics, and weekly sharing activities, which help build both character and a strong sense of community. Their summer program is one of the most family-friendly we've found--an excellent opportunity for families to experience the school and see if it's a good fit. Over the years, our child has gained a tremendous amount of knowledge and developed solid math and reading skills. We're especially touched by the dedication of the teachers, who gather at 7 a.m. to pray for the students and stay until 6 p.m. to care for them with genuine love and commitment. We feel truly blessed to be part of this school and highly recommend it to any family seeking a values-driven, academically enriching environment for their children.

There were two weeks where my daughter didn't even want to go to school because of how she was treated. Whenever she asked for help, the teacher was dismissive, refused to help her, and constantly had a rude, unprofessional attitude. What upset me the most was when my daughter came home and told me that while she was in class with one of her friends, the teacher made an incredibly disrespectful comment implying that her friend was "special" as in having special needs. Whether it was meant as a joke or not, that is completely unacceptable behavior from someone who is supposed to be teaching and supporting students. No student should ever be spoken to like that. Some teachers at this school are kind and genuinely care about their students, but there are others who seem to think it's acceptable to belittle kids and treat them with disrespect. As a parent, it was heartbreaking to watch my daughter struggle with health issues while receiving little to no understanding or support from the school. Instead of making a difficult time easier, they made it even harder. If you're considering sending your child here, I would seriously think twice. Every student deserves teachers who are respectful, compassionate, and willing to help not adults who make them dread coming to school.

Setting up a tour and getting more information was a breeze. The facilities are clean, secure, and well thought out. Each classroom is explicitly arranged to encourage exploration and engagement. Ms. Corrales and all the teachers & staff truly care about each student. It always impressed me how they knew every kid's name and family, no matter which classroom or age. Our daughter always felt welcomed, safe, and cared for. As a parent, I truly appreciated the clear and quick communication we received from the newsletters, emails, and updated calendar on the parent portal. All questions were answered quickly. No communication was ever ignored or unaddressed. I looked forward to getting monthly Dragonfly newsletters and seeing photos of all the wonderful things they did. One thing I especially loved was how families were encouraged to come share cultural holidays, celebrations, and food with the class. Our daughter developed leaps and bounds in Dragonflies. A huge shoutout to Ms. Estrada, Ms. Jacdedt, and Ms. Ochoa! She's emerged more confident and capable. She problem-solves and approaches things from different perspectives. When I look at the person she has become, I'm honestly amazed. She is confident, outspoken, and comfortable expressing her thoughts in a way I never was at her age. Montessori has played a huge role in that growth. Over the years, she has learned that her voice matters and that she can advocate for herself and others respectfully and thoughtfully. That confidence didn't come overnight, but it's now such a natural part of who she is. She asks questions, speaks up in group settings, and isn't afraid to share her ideas, which I know will serve her well wherever she goes next. One of the most meaningful parts of her experience has been the emphasis on community service. Her favorite activity has been volunteering at a memory care facility. She comes home from those visits talking about the residents she met and how much it meant to spend time with them. Those experiences have had a real impact on her and have even shaped her future goals. She often says she wants to be a nurse someday because she wants to help people, and as a parent, there's nothing more heartwarming than seeing that sense of compassion grow. As she prepares for the next chapter, I feel confident knowing she has a strong foundation. The academic skills, independence, empathy, and self-confidence she has developed at Country Montessori School have prepared her to face new challenges with resilience and curiosity. Watching her step forward so sure of herself is the greatest testament to the education and community she's been part of all these years.

One of my favorite things about Lifebridge is how they do fun spirit weeks and celebrations. My boys are always looking forward to exciting celebrations coming up, Lifebridge makes holidays memorable and add in a ton of flare in between holidays to make school more exciting! Summer school especially is also full of exciting themes - splash day with bounce houses, popsicles on the playground, etc. If they're ever having a hard time getting to school, I can usually remind them of something fun coming up they're looking forward to. We are not a big extracurricular sports family, but I LOVE that they get pulled out to attend Amazing Athletes every week.
