Because the school is small enough for teachers and staff to really know each child as a person, kids feel supported, encouraged, and seen every day. The leadership team is thoughtful, competent, and deeply committed to both academics and student well-being. There's also a strong sense of community among families, teachers, and students that makes Meadowbrook feel welcoming and connected. Most importantly, students leave Meadowbrook confident, well-prepared, and ready for the next step into high school. We're incredibly grateful for this school and highly recommend it.

My son experienced issues that required repeated parent advocacy, including bullying-related concerns and an incident where his belongings were damaged. What bothered me most was not just the incidents themselves, but how hard I had to push to get clear answers, accountability, and follow-through. When administrators and adult staff are involved, families should be able to trust that concerns are handled honestly, documented properly, and followed up on without parents having to repeatedly escalate. Unfortunately, that was not our experience. One of my biggest concerns was the lack of honesty and consistency in communication with students. There were situations where adult staff told my son one thing, but when I followed up as the parent, the explanation changed or the responsibility was shifted back onto the student. That is extremely frustrating because children are already at a disadvantage when speaking up to adults in authority. Adults should not be able to rely on their position to avoid accountability or assume a student's word will matter less. There were individual staff members who tried to help, and I do appreciate that. But the overall system did not feel dependable. My biggest disappointment is with the leadership culture and the lack of accountability when parents raise serious concerns in good faith. Parents should not have to fight this hard to make sure their child is safe, seen, and fairly supported.

The facilities (for athletes and spectators) are surprisingly nicer than I was expecting. The track is in good condition. The stadium lights had minimal burned out bulbs. I am in math L/1A1 which is for students who struggle with the subject. I have a disorder that makes the numbers on the pages fly around and equations don't make any sense to me. Math is incredibly hard for me to even begin working on. I also have an IEP. My teacher has provided me none of the accommodations I legally am required to have, so I failed my first trimester of math and am currently failing my second. In middle school, I was given all my accommodations in math and ended the year with a B, which is incredible for me. Both my parents have called the teacher herself, and the school, multiple times. No response or a "we'll get back to you blabab", and nothing ever happens. I have expressed my feelings to my counselor and case manager, nothing is being done. I do not enjoy being a student here. You are promised many things-accommodations, available resources, trustworthy teachers ect. I dont have much to say about the students, they are as you would expect teenagers to be. But I hear white students say the N word, I've heard a group of boys openly mock an Indian girl (copying her accent and twisting up their faces), ect. I have never seen a teacher call out a student before. I had a boy call me a pussy for speaking quietly, the teacher heard, said nothing. No accountability in this school. There's also a huge issue with vaping, but nothing is done. Maybe that is just every school though. If you are a straight A student who doesn't have any mental issues, you will probably thrive here. (Forgot to mention, but there is an autistic boy in my math class who is frequently mocked by the other students and the teacher bullies him on a regular basis. She treats him like he is a idiotic liability, and also refuses to give him the help he needs). If you have more than two questions a day in class, prepare to be cut off or yelled at. :)

I've been so very impressed with this school--the teachers REALLY seem to care about the kids both educationally and personally, They contact me proactively if my daughter slips behind in her schoolwork and seem focused on helping to achieve results rather than on discipline. In her 4 months at the school she's made only a few friends, but the friends I've met seem to be very nice, polite, and appropriate. Oak Valley has a great odd/even schedule system in which the students have four classes each day, for nearly two hours each, rather than cramming 7-8 classes into a day. Each class is every-other school day, so homework is never due the day immediately after it's assigned. And the amount of homework seems to be less because the kids have so much time in class to get things done. If I had to complain about any aspect of the school experience it would be that the Poway Unified School District has a mash-up of online tools available and it's not always easy to know where to find information about assignments and grades. That being said, I strongly prefer having online access to not having online access.

After seeing the full cycle from K-5 I can confidently say this school is terrific. My biggest fear was that because I don't speak Spanish that I would struggle to help my children but the interesting part is that my kids picked up Spanish quickly enough that they were able to translate the homework for me so I could help them with Math, Social Studies, etc. And with web tools like Google translate I can check their vocabulary pretty easily. If having a 2nd language is important to you (or just having a rock solid elementary school) then I highly recommend this school. I had to transfer my kids to this school since we live outside their boundaries and it has been worth the extra miles back and forth. I have also been there through 2 different principals / leadership teams and although they are different from each other in many ways their commitment to the children and the program is remarkable and felt through every part of the school. No, it is not a magical place with rainbows and unicorns all the time, it is a real school with real students and real teachers and the challenges that go along with elementary school but the focus is always on teaching and preparing children. The bonus: The on-campus ESS program - Love! Love! Love! their leader and team. They give me complete comfort that my children are cared for and their management of the children after school and during summer break is wonderful. They are well organized and good communicators and help with homework as well.

There is an application, and parents truck their kids in from all over to get their children involved in the school. It is amazing. There is a traditional track that struggles now and then with test scores, but the immersion program is like a little private school tucked inside a public school. The kids are accepted in Kindergarten, and stay with the same group of students all the way through 5th grade. The best part is these students are fluent in Spanish, and can move on with a special skill.

Del Norte is a beautiful and academically sound high school. The leadership over this school is second to none and the teachers truly care. I'm grateful for the opportunity of my child attending this school as I truly think they work to prepare her for college. Don't get me wrong, this school isn't a cake walk, but it's apparent she will be well equipped to attend college when she walks out the doors her Senior Year. Not only is the academic program better than a private school from what we experienced, the sports program is amazing. Some strong athletes come out of this school. Great facilities, coaches and supervision over the sports program has been a wonderful experience! Love that they invest in their academic and sports programs alike! Common to new schools there are "growing pains" of sorts to work out. At this point, DNHS is 4 years old. So far, the administrators, student body, faculty and parents have stepped up to make this a more than "good school". If MC is better, why are so many kids from its vicinity coming to this school? Some kids coming from RB high neighborhood or even WestView and Poway high neighborhoods make the commute here. Go ahead and ask those guys "why not their area high schools?" Or do you even have to try? Seems obvious... Clearly THEY think Del Norte IS the better school.
