The teachers are well trained and know how to prepare the kids for the coming difficulties of h.s. The teachers are quick to let parents know when extra effort is needed. First I would like to point out my positive experience with Mesa Verde Middle School. The teachers…read more(for the most part) are nice and understanding, especially Mr. Lester and Mrs. Doty. Take one star each as a symbol of your awesomeness. The school's grading policy is fair for the most part, as well, and Mr. Newmark is an awesome Assistant Principal. However, this school has MANY, MANY problems, and if these don't get fixed, I'm docking my review down to one star (zero if I could). For one, the school is poorly maintained with gum everywhere, corroding metal, broken faucets, and literal safety hazards in the locker room. Park Village Elementary, despite being one year older than Mesa Verde, is in significantly better condition than Mesa Verde is. And bullies and harassers are rarely held accountable to the "zero tolerance policy" the school claims it has. And there's their new awful electronics policy. Their policy makes sense in classrooms; students shouldn't be using their phones during class time. But this rule wasn't changed from previous years, so the "difference" people are seeing is only from increased enforcement of the rule. However, the part that is new this year and absolutely absurd is the TOTAL BAN on all "unauthorized electronic devices" during lunch, passing periods, and even before and after school (this isn't really enforceable, though). No phones, smartwatches, personal laptops, the school even gave a hard time about headphones! And their headphones policy is just as extreme, and the school board and many of their employed staff use the new policy to torment and stress students because "20 minutes to watch YouTube or contacting your parents because you had a hard day is harmful", while not addressing the real culprits who sneak their phones behind their back to do fishy stuff, and even though the staff already neglects us. Other schools have rules specifically about smartphones that are less extreme than MVMS's, and even those I think are a bit extreme. Even if they're not going to fix the many other problems at the school, at least don't take away helpful stuff from students as insult to injury. So there needs to be some serious change to this school, otherwise it will inevitably fail. Students don't deserve to be treated this way, and if the school wants students to succeed (which they express LITERALLY EVERYWHERE), give them some freedom and some guidance, enforce necessary rules and get rid of unnecessary ones, and don't order us around like farm animals. At the end of last year, I would have given this school 3 stars or more, so the school board should retrace their steps and see where they messed up this year. Sincerely, A now 9th grader who has received a SOAR Award

I wish I had better things to say about this school. I couldn't recommend it to anyone…read more Our family had been attending this school now for 5 years. Recently it has had a turn over in Principals. Since then, and even prior the school has not been focusing on the important things, a well rounded, safe school. Over the passed year my son, (8th Grader) has been harassed/bullied, by another child everyday. He has damaged his personal property on numerous occasions. My son chose to ignored it because he (my son) is much taller and didn't want trouble. The school staff brought this bullying situation up to the Principals and brought my son in to speak with him to check on his wellbeing. The school DID NOT NOTIFY ME!!! The way I found out (before my son was home from school) was the attendance hot line calling me to please excuse my sons absence from 2nd period. That was when I found out about everything. On the last week of school 2019, this same bully assaulted my child by hitting him in the head, three times in P.E. class. Of which I learned the P.E. teacher told my son previously, that he has a few options with this bully. He could hit him, but he would get in trouble, or he could choose to stay away from him. My son had repeatedly chose the latter. When my son came home and told me this bully hit him three times in the head, I emailed both the Assistant Principal and the Principal. Please remember I was notified about the school's staff being concerned for my sons well being, ONLY because the attendance recording called me. I heard back from both principals the following day. Of which they told me in writing that they have interviewed the witnesses independently, and I quote, 'All three statements and recollection of the events from yesterday were very much in alignment'. He carried on to mention my son is very polite and respectful. I was told, and I quote, 'Unfortunately, we are unable to share the consequences with you, as we are only able to speak you about your son'. The next day was 8th Grade promotion, 2019. I was awaiting my sons name, and first heard and saw the child that assaulted my child 2 days before, walk and get his promotion certificate. I felt so sorry for my son. He is just a stupid number at BMMS school. They had proof and still the child didn't get suspended. He stood up there proud as can be. This school is not focused on your child's safety. They aren't behind the ball, they chasing the ball. Such as having these young impressionistic children, abruptly leave their classrooms without their belongings, so the drug dogs can have a good sniff. Oh and you aren't, as a parent, notified about that happening either. Its all bad. I am a very fair person, but this school has a lot of work to do. I can't tell you how many families I know that pulled their families from there at the end of a year. I should have in recollection. Talk to other parents from the other surrounding middle schools, we all feel the same about BMMS.

Mr. Corso is very enthusiastic and caring which is always appreciated but he also listened to the students and parents and worked to "beautify" a very ugly campus. I was also impressed with most of the teachers ability to implement online learning. I know it was not easy for them, but they really cared and worked hard to keep the kids focused. While they did not teach much that was new, they did put a lot of effort into reinforcing what was previously taught. Well done!

A lot of the teachers and coaches are alumni and have a great deal of pride in the school. I always found it a real sign of the school's family vibe when I think about the openly gay varsity football cheerleader from my oldest son's 2015 season. The school loved him and he had zero issues with anyone as far as we ever knew. The fact that there are only 2-3 teachers still teaching from when I attended both junior high and high school is a telling sign to the ability of staff retention. For reference my old kindergarten, elementary, and middle school still have 75% of the teachers from when I attended. If maranatha knew what was best for them they'd do a little more to retain the talent they had in house instead of creating a revolving door of teachers. They hire for the short terms instead of the long term like they used to. Just feels like a bunch of bandaid remedies instead of meaningful change and improvement. They're too focused on being ranked as a top private school instead of actually being a top private school. After you graduate there's practically no reason to stay engaged with the school. The fact google reviews are turned off says a lot. Not a place I will send my own kids...

There needs to be more protocols, especially since I remember there would be dudes in the boys bathrooms since 2022 vaping and messing around in the bathrooms. Sometimes they would have to close down due to this behavior, and I remember there was a day most of the boys bathrooms were shut down because of this issue. After I graduated class of 2024, those memories still remain an interesting experience in high school because they reflect the issues that happened. But, also what could improve for new people coming here to have a better high school experience.
