He performed deep tissue in certain areas, and that was truly kind of him since deep tissue normally costs more. I had a great first experience with him. He is light hearted, friendly, lovely to talk to - and listened to my concerns. I purchased a deep tissue and went back to him for a 90 minute about 10 days later to see if we could really get to the root of my problems. Although I had relief, it wasn't let's say.. "fixed" per se. I will say that he said I'm the first person he's encountered like this. For context, I've been getting massages for over a decade, and I haven't found anyone that's been able to "fix" me. I'm also very active, train 1-3 hours a day as a hoop dancer and all around performer. I've at least always felt better than when I walked in. I also personally do a lot of myofascial release, stretching, yoga - and I really try everything to give myself some relief in my upper back/neck/thoracic/trap region. Today I'm going back for my 3rd massage with him. I've been happy with the relief I've gotten, and his prices can't be beat! I'll update after my massage today - I'm going for my first 90 minute regular massage (includes 80 min massage but 10 min of undressing/dressing time) for $60! + tax/tip. I recommend checking his business out based on my experience thus far

However, she checks with you repeatedly to make sure you are comfortable with the type of pressure she is using. There is also a fantastic cream (an add on) she offers that heats up after it is placed all over your back. It penetrates the skin deeply and helps heal any ailments you may be experiencing. I am definitely excited to try the facial next time as well. I will certainly return again soon.

I purchased a Groupon for a Shiatsu/Thai massage with Michael Vasta. In all honesty what I was…read morepicturing was not what I experienced, and perhaps that is my fault, but to be fair, I did not get an explanation for what type of massage experience this would be until after I booked the appointment. I do commend Michael for being explicit in the email as to what type of massage this would be and what you would experience during it. I was grateful for that so I knew what to expect and could manage expectations. He does the best he can with the space he has, as he is relegated to a small oversized closet type room in the basement gym of this building. There is a mat on the ground that he works off of which is comfortable enough, but just something to be aware of if you are not nimble to get up and down off of the ground. He seems well trained in his technique, but to be honest, it was not what I was hoping for. He mentioned he gives a lot of pressure, and I just didnt get that out of the experience. There was about 4/5 mins total of stretching, I thought there would be more considering this was an hour deal. I walked out feeling the same as I did when I walked in unfortunately. It was worth a try, and I am certainly glad I did so on a Groupon budget. Overall it was just ok.

Naturally I waited until the last minute to do it so ended up with a Tuesday night appointment at 8. I love the online scheduling system. It was nice to be able to just pull up a calendar and see what was available. The massage room was in the gym, but they have done a good job of keeping out the extraneous noise. Michael's massage technique is shiatsu. I was clothed, and he spent much of his time on my back, and also did some great stretches for my legs. I'm an athlete that is horrible about stretching so I definitely thought that part was beneficial. He was very professional, and I felt pretty relaxed during the whole experience. I don't get massages that often, but I would definitely consider going back.

Julia Taylor is a phenomenal massage therapist…read more This is no run of the mill back rub. She is a true healer. I started going to her a few years ago when I was suffering from chronic back and neck pain. Nothing seemed to help my back pain. I went to a chiropractor, accupuncture, other massage therapists, physical therapy, you name it. I would feel better for an evening or two, and then the specter would return. But the thing that finally made the muscles in my neck and back calm down, and let me live a little, was a series of massages from Julia Taylor. I went through six sessions over a couple months. Julia was able to teach my muscles, that it was going to be alright, and they could just relax, and get strong and healthy again. Now when I feel a tinge of discomfort trying to work its ways back in, I go to Julia and let her work her magic on me.

But this grad student can only afford so many massages. Over the years, I've been to, oh, probably about a dozen massage therapists. Julia is unquestionably the best I've ever been to. She's everything anyone could ever want in a massage therapist: kind, gentle-hearted, professional, intuitive. Perhaps my favorite thing about Julia is how quick she is to respond to email requests, often squeezing me in the next day. (I've emailed her more than once when I've tweaked something in my neck or back and sent her a desperate "Help! I know you're busy, but I need you!" email.) She's been able to "read" my body like no one I've ever met, and she always comes into a session knowing what we'd worked on the past few times. I've recommended her to friends, and they've all gone back to her repeatedly. Her prices are quite reasonable - $85 for a 75 minute session; $100 for 90 minutes. She also frequently runs package specials - get on her email list to find out about these. Be warned - she usually runs a little long with her sessions. It might wreak a little havoc on your schedule, but who can complain about a few extra minutes of massage? Honestly, she's good enough that, should I ever move out of Philly, I'd come back just to see her.
