The massage exceeded my expectations. The pressure was just right, and I felt all the stress disappear during the session. Highly recommended. read more

I have been coming to Phila massages for a few years now. I have worked with several massage therapists here who have all been knowledgeable and efficient and always know where my tight knots and areas of tension in my body are. The massages here are a combination of deep tissue massage, sports massage and stretching. I usually like more pressure and have found all the massage therapists will adjust the pressure based on your liking. In my opinion this is not a relaxing type of massage but more of an intense massage where you feel like you just ran 26 miles but after a few hours after the massage you definitely feel all loosened out. They offer a monthly membership or you can drop in. You can also select between whole body massage or target a specific area. Definitely recommend phila massages for those looking for an intense deep tissue sports massage. read more

I had some restorative work done with Ms. Rose. I dislocated my shoulder a few weeks back, being in this sling had my forearm and neck stiff and in pain. I didn't have to give much direction she intuitively knew what to work on. she even found some spots that i wasn't aware of. I really appreciate her knowledge of the meridian system and well as how and where we store suppressed emotion. this session was enlightening and super helpful with my injury recovery! Thanks again Rose! read more

I came in wanting a massage on my week off, and I was lucky enough to be paired with Joseph. He told me how tight and wound up my body was for not stretching and sitting in front of a computer all day, and proceeded to really try and flatten out the knots in my legs and back. He was very professional throughout the whole experience, and I appreciate the effort he put into eliminating the knots in my body (although there's definitely more work to do... there's only so much anyone can do in 60 minutes). It was painful but worth it - after the session, I noticed how much better my circulation was and how much lighter I felt after the work he did. He also gave me advice afterwards on how to keep the benefits of the session for longer by making sure I incorporate stretching and yoga in my workout routine. Overall, will try to come back and am thinking of getting the monthly membership because of the great experience Joseph provided. read more

The best. As someone who has had chronic neck/shoulder pain as well as a host of exercise and sport-related injuries, I've seen dozens of massage therapists over the years. Joseph is a master at what he does. It's not cheap, but monthly memberships help and being pain-free is a gift. Keep in mind, this is not a spa massage with candles and a light touch -- sessions can be intense depending on what your body needs. That being said, within 24 hours I feel like a new person. read more

I laughed, I cried, I saw God - who actually turned out to be Joseph, the most incredible therapist in the entire world. That might smack of hyperbole but he is a clearly a master of his craft, evident in his painstaking and thorough work. I suffer from a severe case of "Idontliketostretch-itis" despite a pretty heavy work-out routine. My body finally had enough and I wound up on Joseph's table for a last-minute 90 minute recovery massage. Joseph was incredibly patient with me & my highly tense/knotted body and worked all manner of miracles. I will definitely be back! read more

Tiffany gave me such a great deep tissue massage today. She got right into my tight shoulder and neck muscles and wouldn't let their rock hard texture deter her. Don't let the obvious lack of ambiance stop you from giving this place a try! read more

Joseph Rathman was amazing! He spent extra time with me finding all the knots and patiently helping. I would strongly recommend him to anyone looking for an expert sports massage. Incredibly nice and talented person! read more

This is not your zen massage. There are no frou frou candles or your choice of scented massage oils. Instead, they are fairly bare rooms--and great sports/deep tissue massages. It may take some time to find the therapist whose technique works with what you want--but I've found a few that I love. Yes, it's a bit frustrating to have to wait outside, and to climb 4 flights of stairs. I've been a member for 6 months. It's definitely a huge cost savings if you go even more than 4 times a year of 60 minute massages. I leave feeling a bit taller and stretched out, and feeling like my muscles recovered a bit better! read more

In town for a wedding and planned to have a massage because I've been having PT on my mid section. I was very fortunate to book an appointment with Joseph, a wise and talented masseuse. His knowledge, strength and ability have provided me with significant relief from the discomfort I was experiencing. If you get a chance to have Joseph work on your body, you will be extremely fortunate. He is very kind and thoughtful. Which shines through his work. I do not laud compliments in reviews unless they are earned. Joseph went way beyond my expectations. read more

I just went to get a massage with Joseph- and my brain was mixed around so hard I went to space and then came back in brand new form. If you want a very very thorough massage that has you contimplating whether or not you even love yourself for letting it get this bad, you should definitely go see Joseph. I was silently sobbing at one point about how thankful I am my body supports me on the daily and, you guessed it, laughed about it. Thank you Joseph! read more

I give it three stars because of their great location, for making appointments easy to schedule via text messages, and the discount for first time clients. However, I also had to face a few negative sides. First, it would be much more convenient if you informed clients NOT TO COME MORE THAN 10 MINUTES BEFORE THE APPOINTMENT. No one will open the door for you. I arrived 20 minutes before the appointment, and I had to wait outside in the 90-degree weather and there are no seats downstairs. You should expect that some people are coming with pain or sometimes not being even able to take the stairs (I didn't see any elevators). You will only see a small sign downstairs that if you arrived earlier than 10 minutes before the appointment, then no one will open the door to you, because the massage therapist is still working with other clients. For such incidents Phila Massages should hire someone at the reception. My masseuse was Colleen Woytas. It was a very good massage, but since each person has different preferences, her technique is well suited to those who like continuous movements through the body and a relaxing massage. I went to get a deep tissue massage, I get them every two weeks so I do know what the deep tissue massage means. I have a incessant pain in the lower back, because of scoliosis. In addition to chiropractor and physiotherapy, I need massages every week. Due to the fact that the specialist to whom I drive is a half hour away from Philadelphia, and sitting in the car give my back an extra stress, so I decided to give it a try at Phila Massages, based on all the good reviews. I was very excited and expected a much better deep tissue massage. Despite the fact that I was very disappointed in the service provided, I am glad that they gave me a discount since I came here for the first time. So I put three stars instead of two. I might return, but to another specialist. read more

A decent massage. Averagely priced. Friendly staff. The space itself could be updated. It's not quite as nice as I'd hoped. Not exactly a zen atmosphere from the get. Always love a place that has water with cucumber or hot towels after m the massage. You won't find those special touches here. All that aside, my 45min massage was great. read more

Kevin is a magician. This was so far the best massage I've had. I always want my pressure to be firm and it's the first time it was really just what I wanted. He was very easy to communicate with and explain my needs and it was just a very positive experience. My shoulders and back felt way better immediately after the treatment. I know I will have sore muscles for a few days now but that's expected. This is an awesome place when you have a health related need in massage and not just want to relax (I'm sure they can accommodate the latter as well). I'm definitely coming back. Oh, COVID related: they are doing everything in their hands to keep everyone safe. The place is immaculate and they make sure to clean it between every client. I felt very safe. The only criticism I have is I wish they informed me IB advance they won't let you in earlier than 5 minutes before the appointment. It's for the safety of everyone so I totally understand, but they should probably include the info in the appointment confirmation (unless I somehow totally missed it). read more

When they mean deep massage, it is a deep massage. First time ever getting a massage, and they really great at explaining the whole process and gave me a 25% discount. Afterwards, they gave me stretching techniques to try after my workouts. read more

I got a 45 minute massage today with Brianna and it was wonderful. I have been dealing with a stiff neck, tension headache and just general problems associated with 'holding anxiety and tension in your shoulders and neck.' I've been in pain for days, but finally felt some relief during the massage and after. Brianna was professional, knowledgeable, and extremely proficient. We ended up starting about 15 minutes later due to the prior client running over. I really appreciated that Brianna made sure my session wasn't cut short but also stayed respectful of my time. She also helpfully explained what she noticed was going on in my body and talked out some solutions. She asked how the pressure was during the massage - which was perfect. I wanted something tough to work through my knots and specifically asked for that, which isn't to say she wouldn't accommodate a lighter touch. I can't say enough good things about my experience. Generally speaking, this isn't the ~spa~ experience with fountains and ambient music. It was perfect for what I wanted and I highly recommend this location and Brianna if you want a massage that heals your body. read more

Once again Yelp hasn't let me down. Phila Massages is truly deserving of its 5 rating, too bad you can't give more ! The experience was 5 right from my phone call to book a session, as Natasha listened to my needs and set me up with Melvin. Upon my arrival, Melvin was waiting for me and after a nice, brisk 12 block walk to warm up my muscles and build a sweat, I was offered water while I told Melvin of my sports & lifestyle history, and what I needed and looking to accomplish. He's a true consummate professional in his field. I am no stranger to sports massage, and the variety of body work technology, and Melvin gave me 90 minutes of everything I could handle & then some! He unlocked knots & broke down lactic acid build ups that had been festering for years! The 90 minutes spent was one of the best workouts I've had in years! Phila Massages is everything you could ask for, clean, knowledgeable, very economic and offers a variety of techniques & services. I knew within the first 15 minutes that I'd be signing up for their membership package, and you'd be crazy not to, because it pays for itself after a few sessions. See you next week Mel! read more

I've had a membership here for about 3 years and would come in every week if I could. I've been to various therapists, and they're all extremely knowledgeable and effective, even though they each use different techniques. Even my least favorite massage here has been infinitely better than my best massage anywhere else. Some reviews mentioned that the massages are pricey, but I think they're worth every penny, and the membership package is a great deal. Just to echo what other reviews have mentioned - come here if you're in pain and want some relief, but NOT if you want a spa experience. read more

I would highly suggest Phila Massages for those interested in pain relief of a specific area. I have come here a few times for focused neck massages to relieve tension headache and continue to return. Christina and Amanda and found both of them to be skilled, knowledgeable professionals. While it is not marketed as a "relaxing" experience like you may find at a spa, I have always felt relaxed coming here. The staff is kind and they truly care about your injuries. The lights are dimmed and they play music. I would also suggest looking into the membership rate. I payed $80 for a 3 month student membership which allows me to pay a discounted rate and pays for itself after four visits. Well worth it for those addressing a specific injury or planning to come regularly. read more

I've had a membership at Phila Massages for around a year and a half and it is by far the best place for sports massages in the city. I regularly over do it with my physical activity and need some body work done, and the massage therapists here get me feeling better and moving quickly. I specifically see Nick Holmes and I can't say enough positive things about him. His understanding of the body is incredible and he's always my first choice therapist. From shoulder pain to quad pain, he's helped me work through a myriad of issues. He's also very funny, which is important! read more

Had a massage with Joseph. Maybe the best massage I ever had! It not only felt fantastic, but he worked on a persistent injury and knew the source of the pain. If you want real pain relief, make an appointment here. read more

Got a last minute appointment with Joey. I love massage, but especially love deep tissue. It's great to have a place that, even if you're not an athlete, understands the importance of a deep massage. I would highly recommend if you're looking for a strenuous massage. Note that it's up 4 flights of stairs. I didn't realize that it's 20% of a first massage - I might have had a longer treatment! read more

I will start by saying that if you are looking for a relaxing, zen massage, this is not your place. However, if you are looking for a solid sports/deep tissue massage, Phila is an excellent choice. I come here regularly for running related injuries and muscle tightness. They allow you to schedule massages anywhere from 15 minutes to 2 hours and even have a more intensive massage/stretch option. In addition, if you have regular injuries or issues, they offer a heavily discounted membership option (probably worth it if you plan to come with any regularity). Also, they have super easy online booking for quick appointments. read more

If you're an athlete, this is the place to go for a sports massage. It's not a spa--no aromatherapy candles, Enya music or mood lighting. You come to get your body worked on. I've gone to five different therapists and had good experiences with all of them. The annual membership is a good deal if you plan to go more than a handful of times throughout the year. Plus, you get guest passes for friends at a discounted rate. Oh, and bonus points to them for the convenience of booking appointments through the Mind/Body app. read more

While visiting Philly I figured I'd grab a quick massage. The place isn't easy to find. It's kind of hidden on the top floor of the building off the street. Glad I went out of my way to find it. It was the best massage I've ever had. If you have pain...they will fix it. What more can you ask for? read more

I recently decided to start training for my first marathon and I've been having recurring neck cramps while running that no amount of stretching alleviates. I heard about this place from a friend and quickly made a appointment with Natacha. She was truly fantastic. She took the time before the massage to listen to my story and she did a thorough job with the massage. I asked her a ton of questions and she answered all of them without hesitation and as friendly as can be. I left feeling a lot better and I haven't had neck cramps since (it's been about 2 weeks). I highly recommend this place! read more

I booked an appointment through their online system (which was pretty easy compared to some spas and massage therapy places) on a Friday for an appointment on a Monday night and they took me! I get a discount through Philadelphia Sports Network, so it only cost me $40 for an hour. I met with Natacha and talked to her about which muscles I have issues with and which activities I am involved in (volleyball and running). She listened well - I've never had a massage therapist massage my deltoid and other shoulder muscles so thoroughly, but it really helped. The actually offices were a bit awkward to find. It's inside Weston gym (which it says on their website), but if you go to the lobby of the building, the people at the security desk refused to acknowledge that it's its own business. The room to get a massage is very relaxing and comfortable, though. The Weston gym employees could be a bit quieter when walking by the room, though. read more

After being a big dummy and submitting myself to the pain of running the Philly marathon a second time (no, it's REALLY rewarding, I swear..), I decided to treat myself to a massage with Natacha at Phila Massages. She gave me one of the best and most relaxing massages I've ever had. After asking me what areas to focus on and where I had problems/injuries, she assured me she would stretch me out and give a deep tissue massage tending to the fact that I was still sore from running the day before. The facility, a new location judging by previous reviews, is not at all hard to find on the 4th floor of a walk up immediately above Underdogs in Center City. It is clean, professional, smells delicious, and reasonably priced. I probably paid less than I would have for a "spa" massage elsewhere in the city, got a better product, and Natacha was kind enough to talk about what areas she thought I should stretch and work on at home after the massage. Only complain in my book (which was entirely my fault) was that walking up/down the 4 stories to get to the business is super duper painful after running the full marathon. FML! read more

I got the BEST MASSAGE OF MY LIFE from Martin. This place is geared towards athletes and is definitely more of a physical therapy-type massage as opposed to a spa massage, but you should definitely try it out even if you're not an athlete if you want a kickass deep tissue massage. It's on the 4th floor in the building above Underdogs, and it's quiet and clean. I have awful tension and knots in my neck, shoulders, and upper back, exacerbated by my terrible posture and a job which involves sitting at a computer all day. Basically, I need a lot of pressure with my massages and I needed someone to beat the sh*t out of my muscles with a really intense deep tissue massage. I booked a 30 minute massage here for $50. Martin is very intuitive and was able to attack all my problem areas in my back/neck/shoulders. It was painful at times, but in a good and even relaxing way. He even incorporated stretching into the massage towards the end, which I'd never experienced before, but it worked. I seriously felt like a different person afterwards. My neck, shoulders, and upper back felt so much lighter, looser, and less tense. I was SO happy. Martin is such a gifted massage therapist! Phila Massages has a membership program that I would definitely join (you get discounts on the massages if you're a member) if I weren't moving so soon! Wish I could take this place with me. This is the longest Yelp review I've ever written, but the massage was that good! PS I have to admit, I was a bit hesitant to book a massage with a male therapist since I've only seen female massage therapists before and wasn't sure if I'd feel comfortable with a guy, but Martin was very professional. read more

I've been seeing Christina regularly for over a year, and can't recommend her, and this place enough for what I like to call a "business massage." I have shoulder and back discomfort from overuse at work and always look forward to my appointment because I leave feeling amazing. Christina has also used her personal training background to suggest gym exercises to help with my discomfort as well. read more

My life was not complete until I had a massage from Martin. Seriously, he has magic hands. In one of my more brilliant moments, I got a tad lost on my long training run and did 12 instead of the 8 miles I was preparing for (I shouldn't be allowed to leave the grid). Lucky for me, I had a massage apt scheduled! When the massage started, my legs and lower back literally started singing, "At laaaaaast myyyy love has come along!" Afterwards, I felt like I had never run at all. Hell, I might even get lost again next weekend on purpose. read more

No need to repeat what others have said ... this is not a spa and you don't go here to relax. However it should also be noted that you don't have to be Charles Atlas to be a client here. Yeah I workout, but I'm not signing up for Broad Street anytime soon. Even after calling with this information, Natacha and her staff were nothing but kind and did not make me feel bad or silly for coming to a place to get my "everyday" knots worked out. The first time I visited I saw Natacha and she was everything I had heard and more. Professional, quick and massaged out my knots for every minute of the 30 minutes I had paid for. This past weekend I had my first appointment with Melvyn and he was just as fantastic as Natacha, especially after a rocky start. Per typical SEPTA standards my bus was late and I knew it would put me at Phila Massages either right on time, or 5 minutes late. The morning got even better when the bus came, made it a few blocks and then broke down. So one bus, and one cab ride later and I finally get to Melvyn 15 minutes late. Even though I had kept him apprised of the situation via phone I figured he would subtract my tardiness from my appointment time, but he still managed to give me the full time! Even if it was a case of an open schedule, he didn't have to do this. It was another fantastic appointment, despite my stressful start. The only thing to note was that when I arrived it was only Melvyn and myself there (maybe there was someone in the back, but I didn't hear a thing). Another employee did arrive about halfway into my session, but by then I was already under the sheets. Again, this was not a problem at all during my session but I could see this being a point of hesitation for other female clients. Had it been my first time there I don't know how comfortable I would have felt. read more

I have found the holy grail. Wow. Brian is an absolute wizard. I have been on the hunt for a great massage for quite some time now (years) and my search has finally ended. This is by no means a place where you can expect soft music and candles and aromatherapy...it's actually more like physical therapy--deep (!) muscle work and exercises to make you feel like a million bucks. Brian fixed my shoulders to the point where I actually felt taller when I left. He let a heat lamp warm up my shoulder before he got to work, which helped tremendously. He was so incredibly meticulous and thorough--no knot left behind. I hesitate to recommend him to other people because I don't want all of his spots to fill up, but I feel like it's wrong to keep this a secret from anyone who is in search of a deep, thorough massage in Philly. read more

Yesterday I get messages at least once every 2 months, my regular therapist at my regular place was not available. I found Phila Massage online and it is close to my office. I was able to get an appointment with Olivia. It was for a deep tissue massage and it was excellent. I've never fallen asleep during a deep tissue massage and for some reason, I feel asleep because it was so good that it put me in a trance. I usually prefer an hour, this was 45 minutes and it didn't feel too short. The price is right and I will be back. read more

I decided I finally wanted to get a massage after running the Broad Street Run yesterday. I've always wanted to get one but was too uneasy about getting undressed and not enjoying spa-like atmospheres in general. I searched on yelp for massage and out of the handful of places rated highly that were within two miles of my house, I picked PhilaMassages. I liked that you could make an appointment online (I hate making phone calls). The whole thing was great. The office is clean and bright without a polished stone or fountain or zen anything in sight. Like a cheerful doctor's office. A plus for me. My appointment was with Karen and she met me at the desk. I filled out a short intake form and she sat with me for a few minutes and explained to me what to expect which was very reassuring. She showed me into a spare, clean room and very carefully explained how to get under the sheet and told me it was up to me what to leave on or take off. I didn't feel embarrassed or strange. Once I got settled, she came in and explained where she'd start and then she got to it. It was fabulous. It's sports massage so she spent time on the muscles that were tight - it hurt to have them massaged, but in a pleasant way. 45 minutes later I was completely relaxed. My legs were noticibley less sore. I felt like I gave them a treat. Karen herself does a number of sports so at the end we talked about our activities, and it was really nice. But in no way did she force a conversation - I was chatty after beging so relaxed. Take away message: if you would like to try a massage but were unsure how to go about it, this is a great place to start. Professional, on time, massaging muscles, that's it. No incense/mystical/spiritual stuff. And Karen herself was great. read more

After running the Philly Rock'n Roll Half Marathon, I definitely needed some work on my broken body. After reading the reviews on Yelp, I set up an appointment on their website (simple and effective). Not going to lie... this was my first ever massage, but Natacha was extremely professional, and did a wonderful job asking what specific parts needed work, explaining the process, etc. I highly recommend Phila Massages. It was a great value as well - I will be back! Note: I definitely did not read the instructions on the location of this place. FYI this is in the WESTON fitness center. Not at the WESTIN Hotel fitness center. To be clear this was my fault, but just a quick FYI for ya! read more

I am very picky with the way I like my massages. I am a deep tissue kind of gal, who likes to feel that every mussel has been "worked" on. Unfortunately, my massage therapist moved to FL so I was looking for a new good place. Having been to 4 I really could not find one that I liked...until I discovered Phila massages! Wow they are amazing!!! 1. Their massages are intense. You feel like a true just ran over you. However, the next day you feel like you are ready to fly. It's a great feeling of stress release! 2. Staff is very friendly and professional. They want to learn about who you are and what brings you in, making experience customized to your needs. 3. They have a great online scheduling tool which allows you to avoid having to call. Overall this is one of the best places I have been too.
