Very grateful for this place. Today was my first visit and I feel great. I had had terrible neck and shoulder pain to the point I could barely turn my head (or, even worse) pick up my infant. I desperately needed care ASAP. David fit me in for a same-day (on a holiday!) massage. He's definitely strong; and most importantly, skillful. I had a lot of knots and he worked through all of them carefully but effectively, I can now pick up my kiddo and I'm so grateful. read more

Kenise was amazing. I was in Philly for the weekend and was lucky enough to book a last minute appointment with her. One of the best massages I've ever had. I live 4 hours away and would seriously head back to Philly just to see her again. The knots in my back are gone and I am feeling so much better even the next day! read more

Jada was my massage therapist at Fairmount location. Incredibly grateful. This was hands down, the most effective massage I've had. I have a plate in my cervical spine and Jada's work was helpful for the residual areas. It was a relaxing experience. I had deep tissue work done and very pleased. Also, the orange scented oil is very nice. read more

I came here because I desperately needed a massage and it's in my neighborhood. I really loved that you can 1) Schedule online 2) Pick the music during your massage 3) pick the scents in during the massage They are so hospitable and try to make their practice as welcoming of an establishment as possible. Will have to come back :) read more

Kimberlee was amazing! Really enjoyed my half hour deep tissue massage. Highly recommend coming here. Price was perfect, loved being able to choose my Music! read more

HORRIBLE MASSAGE and CUSTOMER ABUSE. This place used to give decent massages but now just sprays on globs of oil and pats you for an hour. After being good longtime customers, we finally gave up and tried to cancel the membership program. They refused to take cancellation by phone, they refused to take written cancellation by email, they directed us to a form on their website but then denied receipt of that cancellation. All of this results in auto-renewal of the monthly terrible massages. read more

Really lovely massage place with very reasonable pricing for membership. I have been a member for a couple of years, first at this location and then at the south philly location after moving. The therapists have always been wonderful. Only snag I hit was some issues with membership credits during the pandemic shut down, but after a quick call with the owner, James, I got it all sorted out. Would definitely recommend a membership here! read more

I have been to this place a few times and I had a great experience with a great massage therapist who has since left. This time I selected a new therapist on a recommendation. The massage was fine but nothing out of the ordinary. I would be willing to try other therapists that would be more my style if it weren't for my experience in the waiting room. I got to massage about 15 minutes before my massage. When I got there the receptionist was on the phone. I hadn't been there in a while so she asked me to fill out the paperwork again. However she said to the person on the phone "one sec" then ask me to fill out the papers and get right back on the phone. Then again asking me to select my music with "one sec" and right back on the phone with what clearly sounded like a social conversation. Then back on the phone, stops again with her "one sec" and says to me "it's 11:50 you're like super early will it be okay if you're therapist is a few minutes late?" Super early wtf my appt is at 12. I confirm the appt time with her and say that it's fine. She gets back on the phone then steps out into the hallway. I can still hear the entire conversation and at this point it is escalating and she is cursing and screaming. This goes on for a while and then she comes back in says bye (insert diminutive) and sits down and then pleasantly asks me if I want a water as if nothing happened and she hadn't been ignoring me for 15 minutes. The massage therapist apologized for being a few minutes late and I told her I wasn't worried about that but the receptionist was incredibly unprofessional. She apologized and said she was actually a GENERAL MANAGER. Needless to say if this is how they run their business I'm not going back. I know it's not a super fancy salon but I could get better service across the street at rite aid! And surprise surprise miss unprofessional didn't even apologize to me for her behavior. read more

DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME. I had an appointment for a 60 minute deep tissue massage with David. I actually had to get up and leave 5 minutes in because it's like this guy wasn't even trying. This was after I was told the pandora music may stop working half way through the massage because it was someone else's account because the company "didn't want to give the password to too many people." I never heard tell of such a thing. WILL NOT BE BACK! UPDATE: after the owner, James, called to "hear my concerns" he made no apology and instead told me "I think you have anger issues, Brittany." I said you called to hear about my dissatisfaction, did you expect me to be happy? Maybe the next step at this point is to report to BBB. I'll give you anger issues. read more

Wow, this was such a bummer! I had a gift certificate and was really looking forward to getting a deep tissue massage. Between working out and chasing a toddler, I really needed one! I left feeling like I had wasted an hour and still needed a massage! Things got off to a rocky start. When I walked in there was an employee (I think?) eating a giant, messy calzone in the waiting room and talking loudly with the receptionist. Meanwhile I was signing a document that asked me to keep conversations quiet and to a minimum to maintain the spa-like experience. I know this place isn't a full-service spa, but I wasn't expecting to be smelling and watching someone eat a greasy meal and hearing about their weekend while I waited. Not super relaxing. The massage itself was useless. I couldn't even feel half of it. When I was on my back, it just felt like he was trying to scrunch his hands around under me by pressing into the table. I didn't really feel anything on my back. It was weird, so I didn't know what to say. The rest of the massage just didn't really get into my muscles. I left feeling like I'd had nothing done. I get a better massage during my pedicure and leave feeling more refreshed, and that's just a massage from the knee down! read more

My goodness, this place! I'm so happy I stopped in. Not only do they offer tons of little touches (letting me personalize my massage with picking what aromatherapy scent to use, what music to listen to, a little chocolate truffle to enjoy at the end (!) while checking out) you can tell the people who work here know their stuff. The massage therapist even was able to give me post-massage tips to help with my shoulders. They are running this little oasis of relaxation. I have to go back and try their hot stone massage (which should be awesome on a cold winter day). read more

Had a great experience in a couples massage with my girlfriend on a Sunday morning. Upon filling in a few basic forms, you are presented with the option to select your aroma therapy (we selected lavender) and your choice of music for the session (decided on spa instrumental). I was very happy with Jori's Swedish technique and application of pressure. And the massage treatment was reasonably priced (note: they charge an extra $30 for a joint massage - I would forego that option on a return trip). My single complaint would be that my GF and I both detected urban street sounds (e.g. folks remotely locking their cars, an occasional honked horn) during our session, since the second floor therapy room directly faced Fairmount Ave. The distractions were mildly annoying, particularly when you are trying to achieve a state of total relaxation. read more

Though there's not much more I can add to the other positive reviews, I'd like to add Maggie to the long list of talented employees here! Being in the neighborhood I walked by a million times and finally gave in when my general annoying back issues and pain got the best of me. I called and got an appointment the next day, and was set up with Maggie when I noted it was my upper back that was the problem. The receptionist said noted Maggie had just completed an upper back/shoulder type certification class (yay!). She was professional and thorough and I left feeling like a million bucks. Only 4/5 because prices are a teensy bit high (even though they have a membership option) and I don't see this being my regular place because of that. However, as a treat, they are well worth it! read more

UPDATE: I would like to positively acknowledge James, the owner of this salon, for being so kind and willing to help regarding my negative experiences. He offered me a gracious refund and bent over backwards to help me, even offering to cover my chiropractor visits post-massage. It is clear that he cares greatly about his business and his clients and wants only the best for them, which is definitely not something you can say for all spas in the Philadelphia area. This spa will do their best to meet your needs - I recommend reading through other reviews to find a masseuse that is well-liked so you can have the best experience possible. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - I gave this place a try on three separate occasions, and I was not overly happy with the Swedish massages I received. Their positivity and overall politeness definitely impressed me, even though their massages did not. I will only speak about my third visit here. I had a masseuse by the name of James, who was very nice right away. However, he was very talkative throughout the massage, which isn't something I really appreciate while trying to relax. I told him that I like medium pressure - typical for a Swedish - and that I carry a lot of tension in my lower back. The first part of the massage was nice (other than the talking) and relaxing. However, once he moved onto my back I felt pressure in the knots he was working out. It was painful, but sometimes I know this can be normal in working out knots. He did ask me if the pressure was okay, but in retrospect, it was more painful than normal, and I knew something was off when I woke up Saturday morning and felt almost like I had a pinched nerve in my back. I decided to give it 48 hours before I called them to let them know that I was still experiencing bad back pain and that it had even affected my sleep the prior night. I spoke with a receptionist and explained all of this to her. She put me on hold and consulted someone else, then came back on the phone and told me to do two things: 1) stretch and 2) call a doctor. Being told to call a doctor right away does not seem like a good practice for what to tell potentially injured patients. I don't feel that I should have to pay more money to fix something that was potentially done by a masseuse. To his credit, the owner called me within an hour. I really appreciated that. He confirmed that the receptionist should not have recommended me seeking a doctor's consult and asked me to explain the situation, which I did again. He apologized and gave consolation. However, he never really offered a suggestion for how to resolve it. He did ask me what they could do to fix the issue, but I felt awkward making a suggestion myself. He probably could have handled this better by offering suggestions for going forward himself, but I still appreciated that he was making the effort. It showed a lot of character for him to go above and beyond to try to rectify the situation, and it made me feel better about the situation overall. read more

This place is absolutely great! I've been a regular (~monthly) customer for about a year. They recently let me temporarily pause my membership for a bit while I was out of work. They never deducted any of my credit or charged me any fees. I had come to expect being punished by other businesses practices, but was pleasantly surprised! Even after not having an appointment for awhile, I was welcomed by name when I walked in. The massage therapist that I'd regularly seen also remembered numerous things from past sessions and was as friendly as always! It really feels like Massage Fairmount appreciates their customers. It seems that a major goal of other massage spots is to do a pushy up-sell of expensive oils, candles, etc. after the massage, but that has never been my experience at all here. As far as I'm aware, they don't currently even sell any products outside of the massage services offered. Their office also always smells amazing. I can't wait to go back for my next massage! :) read more

I have been searching for a massage place in the fairmount area that is reasonably priced, not commercial, and relaxing- needless to say I found it. I had Marta as my massage therapist and she was fantastic. I got the hour sweedish massage and every moment was amazing. I got to choose my own oil scent and music- went with lavender and "spa". The worst part was it ending... Didn't want it to. But they even made that part enjoyable as I got a glass of water, a chocolate, and a warm towel. Amazing! My only suggestion would be to have the lights slightly brighter when getting dressed/undressed... Hard to see everything. But that's minor on comparison with my experience. Considering even getting the monthly membership. read more

Joining the multiple bad reviews of this place regarding their refusal to give refunds. I'm pregnant and was gifted pre natal massages at this place. It took weeks until I could get the money into my account to use it at all. I eventually had one massage, and their prenatal "prop" was just one extra pillow, and aside from that I got a little rubbing that a friend could have done for me. When I booked a second massage, no one was there because the practitioner was on vacation, which you think would have been communicated. I was then told I could come back later, which I was willing to do, but later was told that wasn't possible and I'd get a free massage some other time. That didn't happen either. (Or apparently, I learned weeks later, it was credited to my account without my knowledge.) When I asked for a refund of the credit gifted to me (over $1,000) it was refused. The manager seems to think that after all of this, I should still want to receive pre natal care here. I don't, and I never will go here again. read more

I had a terrible massage that gave me zero pain relief following what I thought was a very clear discussion about my neck and back pain. I asked the masseuse to go deeper, and she didn't really change much. I sent an email expressing my frustration and asking what I could have done better to communicate my needs. No response. I don't make a lot of money, so a massage for me is an expensive and carefully considered investment. Take your money elsewhere. read more

I am from Boston and stopped into get a massage at Massage Fairmount and it was nothing short of fantastic. The Receptionist was very informative and thoughtful. I met the owner James. Great guy!! The Masseuse , Dana, was awesome! She was very knowledgeable! Pin-pointed my issues with lower back and neck pain !! I feel great and if I was a resident in Philly I would frequent often. They have a great monthly membership program. The cost for the massage was great deal. I wish I had this place in my neighborhood in Boston. Great job Massage Fairmount!!!! Amazing! This place first of all is beautiful. A small retreat in the middle of the city. I was greeted very kindly and filled out some paperwork briefly and was lead in for my massage. But before all that; I got to choose my music and essential oil ! Just like the massage it was tailored to me personally! I got a deep tissue massage by Ashley who seemed very knowledgable and accommodating. I am an oldie but goldie when getting massages. I've been everywhere, in different states and different styles and I have to say this was worth every penny. The amount of pressure and focus she gave to the specific areas was just what I needed. I am so happy fairmount has a small but lovely new wellness retreat in the area! I sure do welcome this place with open arms and now have a place to get my regular body work done. The amount of attention they have to detail really makes this place a unique experience and I highly suggest others to check out the new addition to the neighborhood! read more

My husband and I have been regulars at Massage Fairmount for about a year now. It started as a one-time birthday present for my husband, but as it turned out, it was a better deal to just join as members as there was no initial fee nor cancelation fee if we decide to cancel after trying them out. A sweet deal and a very smart business decision on the owner's part as it kept us as long term clients instead of one-time guests. On top of it, two people can use the same membership so my husband and I have been taking turns each month. The place is clean, comfortable and without pretension. It's not a luxury spa, but that's not what I'm looking for anyway so it's a perfect place for me. Between the two of us, we've tried a good number of therapists, and here is the rundown of the ones I have tried who are exceptional. Dana is great, as many reviewers here have mentioned. I've tried swedish, deep tissue, and add-ons with her. She is very professional, friendly, and has great technique. The only complaint I have is that I felt shorted on time with her. I know it is stated that within the allotted time, 5-10 min are used for set up, client interview, etc, so you only get about a 50 minute massage when you pay for 60. But by the 3rd time I went to her, there was no client interview (nor one needed) and I paid extra for add-ons yet it was still all done within 47 minutes. Why shouldn't I get extra time if I paid extra for the add-ons? Then I tried Maggie, who was fabulous!! Even though she doesn't advertise on her shiatsu technique (which is what I really want), she incorporates it into her massage, and it is so effective in working out the knots. And she gave me a full 60 minute massage even though it was the first time I went to her, and we did have a little chat about my problem areas. I didn't feel rushed at all. The BEST massage I've had, however, came from Emily (different from Em, whom we've never tried so cannot comment). From the first stroke she did on my shoulders, I loved every second of my 90-min massage. The pressure was perfect, she immediately found problem areas and really worked on them. She offered to work on my sinus area as I was complaining about nasal congestion. I didn't feel rushed at all, and was thoroughly relaxed and felt GREAT post-massage. read more

The massage I had here was strangely miraculous. I had just finished the Love Run, a half marathon where it poured rain 10 out of the 13.1 miles reaffirming that God laughs at people who pay to run a race. When I woke up the next morning my knees had been replaced by the knees of an 88 year old parachuter. My friends smartly predicted my instantaneous demise and gifted me an introductory swedish massage to this business. After filling out a comprehensive medical form, picking out the smell of my massage oil and the theme music I wanted playing during my rehabilitation (jazz essentials) I was then treated to one of the best massages I've ever had. She applied the pressure I liked (medium to heavy) and worked particularly long on the areas that I had requested. One massage, one chocolate truffle and one cuppa tea later (all provided by this lovely business), I felt like the young buck that I am. For a whole week. Anticipating my needs, this place has a membership plan. I shall run again (foolishly)! read more

**UPDATE to review below: The GM reached out to me to apologize for my experience and offer me a complimentary massage. I took her up on it, with one of their other therapists, Dana. She was amazing! She didn't apply as much pressure as I'm used to, which made it even more impressive to me that I came out of the session feeling completely relaxed, and as if all of my trouble spots had been addressed. She's definitely a pro! The GM even reached out again after the appointment to see how it went. Aside from a great second massage, they have excellent customer service. You can tell they really care about their customers' satisfaction...something that's hard to find these days!** ____________ This was the worst massage I have ever received. My girlfriend got me a gift certificate for a 60 minute deep tissue massage and 2 add ons - a scalp treatment and a sinus treatment. I arrived early to my 3pm appt to fill out the new client paperwork. I waited for a bit, until my massage therapist (I know his name, but I'll protect his identity because he was nice, just terrible at his job) came out to get me at 3:05. After the standard intro and time to get disrobed and under the sheets, the massage began at 3:08, if not later. I checked my watch again immediately upon him finishing, and it said 3:54. I'm not exactly sure how he fit a 60 minute massage AND 2 add ons into under 46 minutes. TOTAL RIPOFF!! The massage itself? I told him he could apply a good amount of pressure, as I get deep tissue massages somewhat regularly, and prefer them that way. He did apply pressure, but in the most inefficient way possible. When it came to actual trouble areas, he had no idea what he was doing in terms of "getting knots out" and focused on the wrong spots entirely. The trouble spots on my neck/back/shoulders have been obvious to every other massage therapist, but he seemed to have trouble finding and treating them. His lack of experience and knowledge about the human body was apparent. He also did some weird thing with his elbows where he would dig them into my back along my spine - straight up painful and not in an "at least it'll feel good later" way. I think I know what he was trying to do based on techniques other therapists have used, but he wasn't pulling it off. I could go on and on about the random, ineffective methods he used, but I don't want to bore you because it's important that you keep reading. The "scalp treatment" was him slathering a ton of oil to my front hairline and pushing 4 spots along that hairline really hard. He didn't touch the rest of my head or actually apply any pressure or technique anywhere. The whole thing was under 5 minutes. I'm *almost* not pissed about this because it was comical how much oil was on the front of my hair and dripping onto my forehead. I was going to go grocery shopping after my appointment, but instead I had to go home to wash my hair 3 times, so that I could be somewhat presentable if I wanted to be seen in public. The "sinus treatment" was him barely touching my face and applying drops of eucalyptus oil to it randomly. I asked him to apply more pressure, but he didn't. It was a few minutes long, and just bad. My mom has given me better sinus treatments with some old school techniques and a jar of Vicks VapoRub. To sum it up, I feel terrible that my girlfriend wasted so much money on what was the worst massage ever. I feel even worse that she paid extra for "add ons" that were absolutely awful. And I feel EVEN worse that she paid for these services, when the place scammed me by only providing 46 min (if not less) of service when there should have been well over 60 min. The place has great reviews, so maybe it's just this guy that's the anomaly. In any case, my girlfriend deserves a refund, and I deserve over an hour...no, wait, make that 46 minutes, of my life back. read more

If I could purr I would. Need deep tissue that really gets into every knot? Schedule an hour with David. Your back will thank you.

I was able to get a same-day appointment with Michelle. This was my first time ever getting a massage, and it was great! I suffer from stress induced migraines, and lower back pain as a result of lordosis, so this really helped relax and relieve pain. Since it was it was my first massage I got the Swedish 30 min massage which was the perfect amount of pressure, and got the scalp treatment (my favorite part). I chose the lavender scented oil, it was the perfect amount of scent to relax me but wasn't overly powerful. The background music was perfectly relaxing! The coconut oil in my hair felt amazing! Definitely will come here again! read more

This is the best massage I have ever had. From start to finish this place was awesome. I was able to select my own scented oil and the pandora station I wanted. UNETHICAL AND POORLY MANAGED. I have been going to Massage Fairmount for over 2 years. I have been very pleased with the massage therapists (hello Joycelyn & Kimberlee!). Unfortunately, this place is poorly managed and the owner is dishonest. Below are 4 examples... Prior to the pandemic; 1) Appointments: I made 2 appointments that were not held; for the first one, they had no record of my appointment; for the 2nd one... the door was locked; 2) Massage Therapists: twice, I made an appointment with a massage therapist; when I showed up, they simply assigned me to another one; I should have received a courtesy call telling me that my therapist was not available, and asked if I wanted to reschedule or were OK with another therapist. It gets worse. When the business reopened, I wanted to schedule an appointment and told the owner that I was owed 2 massages; he refused to comply. Totally unethical. I really dislike writing negative reviews, especially as small businesses are struggling right now. I hope it helps you (the reader). This is too bad for our neighborhood which would benefit from a nice, well-run massage facility. read more

I scheduled a much-needed massage that I had been looking forward to all week and 6 hours before my appointment I got a cancellation notice. When I called the location to see what was the issue I was simply given a response that the therapist was unavailable and there was nothing they could do for me besides fit me in at 2pm (yea, I'm at work). If I had cancelled my appointment on such short notice I certainly would have been charged a cancellation fee. The receptionist was completely unfriendly and unhelpful. I would not waste your time going here. read more

Just had my first massage from here and I was super impressed. After filling out the paperwork, you're asked what scent essential oils you want, and you also get to choose your music and lighting. I had Suzanne for my 30 minute Swedish massage, and she did a great job picking out my problem areas on my back and working through them. She was super sweet and gave me suggestions for how to make the most of my experience post-massage. They offer great service at a decent price - I will definitely go back again. read more

I finally decided to try this place out after hearing some great things from friends in the area, and I couldn't be happier that I did! This was by far one of the most enjoyable experiences I have had...and trust me, I get around ( in terms of massages, of course). I decided to go with the 60 minute deep tissue massage, which is discounted for first time guests (woohoo!). Before starting the massage, I was asked to fill out a short form where I was able to make note of any trouble area's or area's I would like them to focus on. Not only did I get to chose my scent of oil (the receptionist recommended lemongrass, and it was amazing) but I was also able to listen to Radiohead throughout the 60 minute massage!! Heaven! Upon leaving I was offered some water, a warm cloth, and chocolate which was the perfect ending. Basically what I am trying to say is I would recommend trying this place out if you haven't yet. You will be bummed you waited so long to do so! read more

My fiancé gave me a massage for my birthday. I had Travis and he did an amazing job. He was able to find all of my problem areas and address them. I gifted a massage to my fiancé for his birthday months later and they were so helpful on the phone. They let me schedule the appointment and pay for the massage (tip included) easily. My girlfriend had gotten me membership at another one of this company's locations that's closer to my work. During my second visit at the East Passyunk store, I found out I can actually use the membership at any of their locations! This studio is just a stone's throw from my apartment. Last week, I woke up with a terrible pain in my neck. Hopped on their online scheduling and was able to get an appointment just hours later. It was a pleasant surprise to see one of the therapists who had already given me a massage at the south Philly location-- and pretty cool he remembered me & my issues after many months. After only just a 30 minute massage, I was right as rain. As many others have already mentioned, it's really cool to be able to pick your oil and music combination for each massage. Everything this group does, I feel like they're tailoring it exactly to what I want and I'm sure most people feel that way. Each time, I've gotten some at home/ at work/ at gym pointers & stretches from the therapists for self-care in between massages. Although my membership's about to end and I could still come in as a guest, I'm probably going to continue it and add my girlfriend to the account. The prepayment of $64 a month is absolutely worth every penny. read more

Elena's massages are wonderful. The massages are so relaxing I fall asleep every time.

Wonderful, wonderful massages! I receive regular massages to reduce chronic headaches. I've seen many therapists here and they are all excellent. Most recently, I've been seeing Tara who does n incredible deep tissue massage. She has this 6th sense about where to find my knots! She has also gone the extra mile by doing research about my particular muscular issues and tailoring her work to what I need. These are not cookie cutter massages! Also huge shout outs to Michelle and Maggie! read more

I understand that emergencies happen, but how often does one book a massage, pay for it online, and there's no massage therapist when you show up! The manager told me my therapist had a medical emergency, but that I could wait an additional ten minutes for another one, I had already waited about ten. Since I have had serious lower back issues, I asked for a bio of the new therapist, but she didn't have one, though she highly recommended him. I didn't remember seeing any information about him when I researched the office and their therapists. I am weary of not seeing qualifications in print, especially since I have wound up in the hospital due to a negligent chiropractor. Apparently there was no other therapist available even though when you make an appointment there are nearly twenty listed on their website. This is very disappointing since I was looking forward to some relief from a lower back spasm, and I had driven into Fairmount from Ardmore and walked several blocks from where I parked. The manager apologized several times and offered me my next massage free. read more
