The cupping specialist Lisa was exceptional. I actually know her when she previously worked at the Dragon Spa. The office experience is a little challenging in that the owners business doesn't appear to be in compliance with the State and City requirements as per State law. acupuncture requires licensing and acupuncture must be in compliance to have an active license. According to State regulations this business hasn't been in compliance since 2023 but they're still seeing customers. With such a critical function like acupuncture, they should maintain legal compliance. The therapist I would give a 5 star review, the owner a -1 for having a compliant environment for staff and customers read more

I've been to 5 past acupuncturists and Howard is the best. I have a weird schedule at work and he has been able to adjust his schedule to keep my appointments which is greatly appreciated. Usually in my experience the acupuncturists don't really talk to you about what they are trying to do, or care explain the science behind it, which drives me nuts. Howard takes his time to explain and even relates it to western theories. He has my top recommendation. Bizarre interaction - I was desperately looking for a day-of massage after pulling my back at the gym. I found this place through Yelp so I decided to book an appointment using the online portal. When I showed up for my 4:30 pm appointment, the lady came to the door and told me I booked a 3 pm appointment and didn't show up within 15 minutes so she had to cancel. Thing is, my email confirmation said 4:30 pm (just like I booked). She looks at the confirmation on my phone and tells me that it didn't come through on her computer like that so she booked someone else for the 4:30 pm slot. Then, the lady proceeded to make up some lie about how she was going to call me at 3 pm to see if I was going to make it, but she couldn't find my number. Once again, thing is, I had to include my phone number in order to book an appointment online. All around bizarre. Instead of making up weird lies that don't chronologically make sense, just apologize. I'll stick to more competent business owners. read more

This place has, in one sitting, risen to my regular visit list. I received one of the best massages I've ever had this morning. I'm generally an athletic build and need a fair amount of pressure in very specific target places. Amy has magical hands and found all my "spots" without even talking about it. Massage is about walking the very fine line between enough pressure and too much pressure and she has a wonderful ability to read a body to know what's just right. This is Accupressure massage (more intense than Swedish so if you're sensitive to pressure this might be a bit intense). I left blessed out as heck and feeling amazing. It's very no frills. If you're looking for a bougie spa, this is not your spot. My sheet had some holes in it...and I didn't care. Also if you need a lot of privacy, this might be edgy since the "doors" to the massage rooms are just sheets/curtains. The folks there are very kind and I walked out feeling like a new person for $65. I will certainly be going back and would recommend to any athlete or active person - I've had a hard time finding a masseuse that was a good fit until now. read more

Masseuse Youko is amazing (she listened to me about pressure and temperature and did not leave me uncovered for a long time like the previous masseuse Coco did) but unfortunately I was told she is no longer working here. Came here again on a Sunday for their $60/60 min massage with hot stones and hot towels included. Owner/acupuncturist Dr. Wendy Gao was not in but Elaine speaks English, yay! Elaine is so wonderful - she sacrificed her lunch at 2:30pm to do my massage. (I asked for 1hr massage with a female masseuse just as the male masseuse started leading me into the hallway and Elaine was assigned me by the shift manager as Elaine just finished with her client.) Elaine was pretty good and her head massages are the bomb. She listened to me about the pressure and when I told her I was sensitive to heat, she made sure to cool the hot stones and ask me if the temperature was right. She was so thoughtful and asked me if the hot towels were the right temp too! The only drawbacks: 1) the way the rooms are set up. - Thankfully the speaker for the music in the hallway was much louder and there wasn't loud Chinese chatter like the first time, so I could really relax this time. - They lay towels on the bed which got bunched up during the course of the massage and made me feel uncomfortable laying on them. - The thin sheets the use to cover us up with looked worse for wear as they were showing holes. Elaine was very thoughtful and brought me a second sheet, but it likewise had 3 holes in the bottom. 2) Perhaps it might be the language barrier, but I saw a black couple come in before me who seemed to have had an appointment. At first, Elaine wasn't at the front desk and the shift manager who spoke broken English didn't seem to know about the appointment. Instead she turned her attention to me (since I was able to respond in my broken Mandarin that I wanted a massage). Then Elaine came out and clarified the situation and they were able to still be seen immediately, but Super Acurcare could do better in tracking/honoring appointments as I felt that the couple should have been given preferential treatment over me. Elaine was AWESOME at customer service and sincerely apologized to the couple about the mix-up. read more

I've had a broken back at least three reconstructions of my knees was on morphine for more than 30 years I went to this acupuncturist and I'm now a believer I take no medication and I can actually bend over and touch the floor which I was never able to do before so if you're like me and want one day just one day of relief then you got to try this place I highly recommend! Wow. Take all my money. I'm not even a massage person. I always thought it was kind of weird to have some stranger pressing on your back and working out the kinks. Frankly, I thought massages were a rip-off... if I had some knot in my back, I can just get my wife to stand on my back or something, instead of paying someone to do it. Game-changer. I'm buying in. They really know what they are doing to make you feel completely refreshed. Working at a desk job has definitely had its tolls, but this place will take care of you. Even a novice like me, I just went in timid and quiet, and the masseuse find all the knots and work it (lemme work it). It took a few months to write this review, because I've now tried some local places in NoVa but nothing measures up to this place. I'm glad Philly isn't too far. I created a pinched nerve in my lower back by lifting weights incorrectly at the gym. (lucky me!) The back of my right knee and my right foot was tingling with numbness. I went to my sports medicine doctor and the herniated exercises I was given just were not giving me the relief I needed. I went onto Yelp and Super Acucare came up under a massage result. Its reviews were top notch and the price liked good to me. I met Dr. Wendy Gao upon arrival. She listened carefully and gave me all kinds of good advice for my back. I was treated with acupuncture, hot stones, electrolysis, and a massage at the end of my treatment. I felt like Dr. Gao and her massage assistant Ella really cared about helping me with my pain. At the end of the treatment Ella even bent down and tied my shoes for me, because I was not supposed to bend my lower back. Dr. Wendy Gao is very kind and she's a strong woman. I really like her. I'm sure the American Medical Association doesn't accept her China credentials, but trust me, she's the real deal. Apparently she was a heart and cancer doctor in China before coming to the USA. I have had two treatments, one week apart and my back is improving. I don't think acupuncture is a miracle cure, but it definitely helped me more than the herniated exercises I was prescribed. I was able to sleep much better after my sessions at Super Acucare. I must admit the walls are thin at Super Acucare, and you can hear what is going on in other treatment areas. Apparently Dr. Gao is a good mentor for people trying to lose weight. Also, I noticed another guy come in with back problem possibly similar to mine. If absolute privacy is something you really need, then you might want to look elsewhere. Nevertheless, I think this place is a super value with super great staff. read more

The people here are so friendly and inviting. They take necessary precautions to prevent the spread of Covid-19. I feel safe coming here for treatment. I came in because of numbness in my ring and pinky finger from doing handstands. After first treatment i got most of my feeling back. After the second I could say I'm at 99 percent. I came in with severe lower back pain I'd had for over a week, so bad that I was unable to sleep and literally every movement or position hurt. Dr. Gao applied the needles and some mild electrical currents to a few key ones. The resting period was very relaxing and I felt pleasantly heavy. Afterwards I was taken to another room (was surprised to find much more ease of movement almost immediately) for an acupressure massage by Lisa. Holy crap, was she amazing. I've had plenty of satisfying Chinatown massages but proper acupressure is a whole different ballgame. She spent a lot of time on my ankles and feet, with very intense pressure in specific places that hurt in a good way and didn't tickle, and I have very ticklish feet. I was grunting and groaning the whole time because it was VERY intense but it really releases pressure in areas I didn't rea were connected to my problem area on my lower right back. These ladies are incredible pros who know the human body amazingly well. Lisa did keep checking in with me to make sure it wasn't too painful, and she showed me stretches and gave me follow up instructions to use heat and avoid cold. When I stepped down I was amazed to find almost zero pain remained. I was truly in damn near constant agony for a full a week and one visit almost completely removed it. Make an appointment to be safe, and know that late in the day (after 5) it's tough to see Dr. Gao. 10/29/19 Update: I come fairly regularly for massages now and always ask for Lisa. She wasn't available today so I got Cindy, and she was wonderful too. OK - here we go again, I thought as I hesitated outside the door of the el-cheap-o "Dollah-a-minute" Chinatown Massage joint. The ladies inside literally came outside to convince me to come in. "Chi-Gong", I said. and pointed to the words "Energy Treatment $10" on the menu posting the prices. "Chair massage?" "No, Chi-Gong", I said. My "therapist" (there aint no credentialing here, I am certain) Lili spoke almost no English - but I gotta say - when the bell rang after 20 minutes of PERFECT acupressure to my neck, back, lowerback and arms, I replied "Yes, 10 more minutes, please" when she asked me if I wanted more time. This is a legitimate place - not a "happy ending" massage parlour. Safe, decent, and best of all if you ask for Lili - you will get a true pick-me up. She knows which meridians to use, and even gave me an auricular (ear) and scalp massage (no oil, no mess). I am pleasantly surprised. I expected a horror show - and this place - for a cheap Chinatown massage joint, is A-OK by me. P.S. Ms. Gao (Owner) if you are reading this - if you would spruce up your decor and signage - you could really have a better review from me. I hear you are a REAL Acupuncture practitioner and that is a great thing. Please give your place a makeover, play a little music (so we can't hear the person in the next "room") and change the lighting (florescent) and you could really have something. Best massage in Philly, and probably best I've had outside of Asia. I've been here four times, had a different masseuse each time, all were great. Definitely acupressure massage; not for the faint of heart. The staff have been highly trained by the doctor. If you tell them where to focus they'll use their fingers, palms and elbows to get the knots out. Very friendly staff, always checking that the pressure is right. Atmosphere is pretty basic but well worth it for the quality of the massage. If you don't speak Chinese, be sure to come during the day or on the weekend so you can chat with the doctor (who speaks English). She can then tell the staff exactly where to focus, and will likely also give you some tips on injury prevention. read more

I love this place. I visited several years ago after a road race for foot reflexology and honestly this is the best place I've been to. I don't say that lightly. I go to foot reflexology places on a regular basis and all over the world when I travel. I get half hour of acupressure massage $30 and half hour of foot reflexology $30. They have you in a private room on a table for both services. I went 2x in past few years and the lady would remember who I was from the tattoo on me. I went again this weekend twice cause I was walking a lot in heels. I like the ear rub and they do something to my knees which always ache from long flights that makes my knees feel awesome. I wish this place was in Atlanta. Don't get me wrong there is great massage places in Atl but out of all the foot reflexology/accupreassure places I've visited this one is my top choice. This place is more focused on acupuncture which i have not tried. People in other reviews commented on the appearance of the location decor etc. Honestly it's more of a Dr's office and well their service more then makes up for then not spending a arm and leg on fancy decor. I've been 5 times and I absolutely love coming back. First, I'm always accommodated even if with last minute notice. Lisa is great, she can feel where my problems are before I can even share them. I am a bharatanatyam dancer; it is a vigorous classical East Indian dance form. I have found that I get improved range of motion and reduced tension after getting regular massages. Came here for a 30 minute massage and 30 minute refloxology. The actual services were fine. However, I could barely enjoy them due to: 1. How hot the room was. I was sweating after 2 minutes of lying down. To make it better, most of the massage is done under a towel. 2. The chatter, noises, alarms that no one turned off for several minutes. It sounds like you are getting a massage in an IHOP at 2 AM Best part was when the guy giving me my massage left me on the table for 5 minutes while he spoke to a patron that wandered in. The woman in front actually called him out of my massage to talk to her about how late they are open (I could obviously hear the entire conversation). He didn't even reset the timer when he came back. I did make a comment but he just laughed. Also, reflexology only lasted about 10 min total. Rest of it was weird ankle and leg rubbing. No wait, the best part was when I tipped him $5. So, I always give 20%. ALWAYS. But I was so disappointed that I figured $5 was generous. This dude actually said "for 60 dollars? No, 20 percent." My dumb ass gave him a rude look and a $10 bill, which I instantly regretted. How dare he?? He was lucky I was giving him anything. Never coming back here and I definitely don't recommend. We went here after walking around the entire day. They accepted walk ins and had enough staff to massage all 3 if us at the same time. One friend said her massage was very strong but the lady talked to her in mandarin the entire time (even tho she kept saying she didn't speak mandarin). She would gjve her massage 3 stars. My other friend couldn't give a critique be a use she fell asleep as soon as the massage started. My lady was very nice but I knew she wasn't going to give me a massage because I'm pregnant. And even though we asked if they can do prenatal massages, I knew she wasn't trained in it. So basically I got oil rubbed all over me with no applied pressure because she said it would be harmful to my baby. No foot massage. No leg massage. Just oil rubbed all over my body. Not worth $60 an hr. But I went there because they were the only ones near our hotel that could see all 3 of us at the same time. read more

The first massage I got here was fantastic, they were great at getting my knots out and was probably the best massage I've gotten between 5 different places in Chinatown. The last massage was last Thursday. First they switched masseuse one minute in. Fine, nbd. Next the person who replaced him, who had clearly just arrived to work with bubble tea in hand, answered the phone, which was ringing off the 4 times during my 30 minute massage, leaving the room several times as well for at least 3 minutes. So, between 2 different masseuse, the constant phone ringing, and the person constantly leaving I received a 25 minute hectic, intermittent massage during which the masseuse had an actual conversation on the phone while massaging me, and my back still hurts. I read the reviews and had a few people recommend Dr Wendy Gao, based on that I made my decision. Don't expect a fancy spa experience, but do expect professionalism, and someone who knows what they are doing! I'm hooked. I am currently having my lower back worked on, Sciatica down to my right ankle. I will continue treatment, and have some other body pain issues worked on. I have done 4 treatments so far, and my ankle that I could barely put any weight on in the mornings is at least 60% better! Go in with an open mind, and you will get the healing you are seeking. I have seen two of the Massage therapists there as well. I make a couple of hours out of it. Acupuncture, massage and last time I added some foot reflexology. I will continue to go. I went to Acucare for the 1st time based on the Yelp reviews. I got a 30 min Acupressure session and a 30 min Reflexology session. I believe it was the owner that assigned a nice woman to me who didn't speak English, so she informed her of the services I wanted. We started with the Acupressure first. It was GREAT! She had nice strong hands and I dozed off pretty easily. However, I was jarred awake and startled several times with a banging noise that was coming from upstairs. I am not sure what was going on, but it was like someone was hammering over and over. So, it truly did interrupt my overall experience. Then at one point, I could hear loud talking outside the room I was in. In such a place like that, voices should be kept at a whisper so not to disturb the sessions taking place. After my Acupressure session, the lady had me flip over onto my back to get in position for Reflexology. When I turned over, she had turned the light up bright, which felt a bit disruptive, then turned it back down again to start the Reflexology. Once again, the massage was great and I fell asleep with ease, but kept being jarred awake with the constant banging from upstairs. So, it was a bit hard to stay relaxed with that happening. And when she was done, she turned the light up bright again, which is not the most comfortable way to come out of a massage. Overall, the massages were great. I would definitely give them another try. Hopefully the sound is under control. read more

I have really bad chronic pain and Howard takes the time to speak to me and get to the root of my problem. He is attentive and puts in the time to help improve my condition. It also helps that he knows how to do effective trigger point therapy and thinks about mind and body healing. It's hard to find a professional who knows both acupuncture and trigger point.
