I've been a loyal Discount Tire customer for years, despite living 50 miles from the store. When we dropped off our car, we told Alex we'd be eating next door since we're far from home. It was 4:45, and he said, "We close at 6." I assured him we'd be back in time. But just 10 minutes later, I got a text saying the car would be ready at 6:25. I figured someone was staying late to finish, especially since the place was packed. At 6:25, I returned--only to find the store locked up. My car was inside, and the lot only had a few people picking up cars left outside with keys inside them. I was stranded in Tyler, 50 miles from home, with no ride. Thankfully, my daughter and son-in-law drove out to get us that night. The next day, we took our other car--another 100-mile round trip--to pick it up. I explained everything to a salesman, including the 6:25 text. His response? "The system just sends that automatically." That's it? Your system needs fixing! This cost me 200 miles of driving and two days of my life. He mumbled, "I'm sorry," handed me my keys, and didn't even check the car with me. I pulled in to have my air pressure checked. 2 days before Christmas with my 15 month old and parents in the car. 1 tire was very low. Instead of just Putting air and sending me on my way they asked if I could let them check the tire. I said yes and asked about the wait he saw the rowdy baby in the back and directed me directly into a bay. They found a screw in my tire and replaced the tire immediately! The young man helping me was so patient with me and kind to my family. He showed me the nail and other damage to the tire. Got a call this morning that they were in. I told the gentleman in would be in at 11:45am to get them done during my lunch. He said ok. I take an extra 30 minutes off lunch and go to their shop. I am told that I do not have an appointment. They say they only schedule appointments every 30 minutes. When a customer tells you when he is going to be at your shop and you answer with OK, THAT IS AN APPOINTMENT. If 11:45 is not valid, then give him options. Discount tire totally screwed me today. He saw my veteran status on my Drivers license and applied the veteran discount that I did not even know they offered. I got 4 Yokohama tires for a decent price and they were on my car and ready to go in about an hour. I spoke with about 3 employees during my experience today and every one of them were professional and courteous. I could not have had a better experience in buying new tires for my car. I was very pleased. My tires came with a 60,000 mile warranty too. They will do a free tire rotation and inspection when I return at the 6,000 to 8,000 mile point. I took my wife's BMW to Discount Tire (on Broadway) and had the same thing happen as the previous poster. The salesman insisted that I could not have a nail removed and patched. In fact the salesman insisted that all four tires had to be replaced, including a new tire replaced six months earlier. I left and went to Sears. I had the tire replaced by honest mechanics without high pressure sales. Shame on the salesman, the management and Discount Tire to allow such shady sales practices. I will NEVER be back. I am unsure on the comparative pricing of tires here, but generally have known Discount Tire to run promotions, so take a look at those and/or any available coupons before coming in. You can schedule appointments online so they're ready when you are to come in. The main reason I've been happy with them is the free repair of a couple of tires with nails in the tread. Came in to get get a nail taken out and tire patched. Walked in at 9:30 AM on a Saturday, several customers were hanging out in waiting area. I knew I should have got up there earlier, but it was cold and my bed was too comfy. Anyways, had to wait a little bit as all staff were busy but they did acknowledge me. Once it was my turn, I explained my situation and showed the service advisor my tire. He said, I could leave it and they would text me in an hour when it was ready. Thirty minutes later I got my text that I was good to go. All in all, the staff was very busy but was busting there butts to take care of customers. I visited the Tyler store near the new tollway on a Saturday around 2. I had a SLOW leak in a front tire I needed fixed. Meanwhile I placed an order for four duplicate tires and was told it would be Thursday likely to get them on. Shortly I was told my leak was actually a slit so not reparable. I told the tech I had to drive quite a ways on it and asked if it was safe. Keep in mind my car is front wheel drive. He told me yes. Well, by the time I drove the 30 minutes home it had lost 12 lbs of air. I aired it up but it was flat the next morning. My slow leak had turned into a fast one and I imagine they made it this way when they tried to repair it. I had to have new tires put on closer to home therefore and cancel my tire order with them. I was able to order from Walmart on a Sunday the same tires and get them installed on Monday. Price was slightly less. It wasn't as quick but at least I didn't have to drive on a flat. Shame on the tech for sending me off on an unsafe front tire on a front wheel drive car. read more
