Hello,
I am the dad of a single mom doing her hardest to raise her kids. A year ago her 2015 Audi A3 hit one on Indy's wonderful pothole going to work and damaged a rim beyond repair. Audi could no longer match those rims.
She asked her dad (me) where she should take her car, ( I now live in Mishawaka) I told her I always had pretty good fortune at Discount Tire on the eastside of Indy, so that is where she took the car.
Mind you, she is 35 years old and not car smart, so she was relying on the salesperson there along with the techs to know what they were doing.
She explained her predicament to them, and they said they had rims in stock and could handle it that day.
When I saw the car after their repairs, it looked like a gang banger car, but I didn't say anything, because I figured they knew what they were doing.
For one, the wheel offset was too far out, making the tires hang out the fenders. She wasn't happy with the service or end product but being a woman by herself she was blown off by the manager named Raymond.
Then this week her boyfriend who does his tire business at the Carmel store, told her that her front tires were slick and needed to be replaced. These tires lasted one year (no alignment issues).
Since her boyfriend does business with Carmel, he knew long term someone who worked there and showed them the tires. His words after he looked at the receipt from the original install was "We (Discount Tire) have never sold these tires."
He assumed they had put on a used set of tires on her car, being they were an off brand. He said tires were not the right size for the car or rim width and were partially riding on the sidewalls. He even mentioned something to the effect, "that it didn't surprise him that happened at the eastside store."
I am 62 years old and have always trusted and used Discount Tire, both for my personal vehicles and work vehicles, but I will NEVER recommend the Indy eastside store to anyone. I am also debating on if I will ever use any of the stores again, if this is the type of crap that goes on.
1. Taking advantage of a single mom or woman. I thought this was no longer a thing but am evidently wrong.
2. Selling used tires or maybe even black-market tires? Really?
So a year in, she had to pay another +$400 for tires and her original bill for rims and tires (+$1000) Yeah right!
I am curious what Corporate has to say about a store being run like it is an inner city area. read more
