This should have been a simple transaction: pay for a computer and receive a properly working system. That's not what happened. The computer I received had Windows installed on the wrong drive, resulting in extremely slow performance. This is a basic configuration issue that should have been caught before shipment. Instead, I spent days troubleshooting something that should never have left their facility. After multiple support exchanges, a replacement was sent--but that unit arrived missing a required VGA port, causing additional delays while I waited for an adapter. By this point, I had already lost weeks trying to get a usable system. The bigger issue, however, was how everything was handled. I was told a prepaid return label was sent for the original unit, but I never received it. I later learned from a staff member that this has been an ongoing issue affecting other customers. To this day, I have not received confirmation that the original unit was returned. To be fair, I did make a mistake during part of the troubleshooting process on the second computer. However, the final response from a customer service manager (Mike Kelton) focused on assigning responsibility to the customer rather than acknowledging the original configuration error and the overall experience. All this was my fault? I also sent a detailed letter outlining this experience to the company's CEO, Steve Norton, and did not receive a response. In the end, I had to resolve the issues myself after investing a significant amount of time. What should have been a straightforward purchase turned into weeks of unnecessary work. If you're considering buying from here, understand that you may be doing your own quality control and troubleshooting--and if something goes wrong, accountability may be limited. Purchased two 4k laptops from them and one worked flawlessly and the other had several issues. Contacted them and was told by Jared (Customer Service) to reinstall Windows and see if that helped. If I could give them less than one star, I would. Five months ago, I bought a computer from them with a three year warranty. Three months after purchasing, it randomly stops working. We go through three weeks of trouble shooting before I finally just had to send it in and get it replaced. (I was left without a working computer for almost a month during finals weeks) When I received the new computer, I realized they had replaced it with a different computer without warning me or mentioning it at all. I wasn't super upset at the moment because I was just grateful to have a computer again, and the one they replaced it with was a different model of the same brand so it was slightly comparable. That was until I realized the one they replaced it with didn't have a camera. As a college student, that is a must. It took MULTIPLE emails from me genuinely BEGGING for them to either refund me or send me the computer I originally ordered, for them to finally send me another computer, which was STILL not the one I purchased originally, but it has a camera. They kept saying that the listing didn't state a camera was included, but in the original listing there were photos and there WAS a camera. And the one I was first sent DID have one. So all the emails arguing with me about it seemed really unnecessary. I just received computer number THREE in less than six months, and it can't hold a charge for more than three minutes. I charged it for two hours, set it up, and by the time it was set up, it said 0% battery. So I plugged it back in for two more hours, and I opened it and checked my email. I was not on the computer for more than three minutes before it completely shut off on me and displayed 0% battery. To say I'm frustrated is an understatement. This has been a nightmare. I have NEVER experienced more rude and insulting customer "service", than Discount Computer Depots' phone - in center. It is truly shocking how they spoke to me every single time. I was so thrilled to find a company that had readily available Human access.... until I called in, and each time, their phone-in people are unfriendly, cold, abrupt, rude and downright insulting. I was having trouble with the off-line word processor they sent me. They were of no assistance whatsoever and told me they could not help me with my problem. We decided that the laptop would not work, and the phone-in insulter said he would send me return postage via snail mail. I told him I would work with the laptop and try and figure it out, then decide if I would send it back. (I spent half a day, digging on line and finally discovered that WordPad has no page delineation.) Now I am sick with dread about having to talk with them again, if the computer works and I have to send back the paid postage. They are so consistently nasty on the phone that I wonder if they are trying to eliminate phone ins, and force us to just "talk" with them on line. The only things my laptop has problems with is being really slow when turning on, and after I get into windows it is slow when opening things like settings or the content within settings.
