Great food!!! Honestly, I was just hungry and needed a break from driving. But I was very surprised! I got the dirt bean dip roast beef with au jus, on chiabatta with Swiss. For this town, I'd say the food was 5-star. The tacos were very good but missing an ingredient to put it over the top - possibly a good salsa? Service was not great. No napkins available and the wait was long (I was the only customer). Seemed like the workers were more interested in their conversation than making food. read more

Very cool quaint local coffee shop. We stopped in for some lattes. The owner was super nice to talk to. Both our lattes (caramel and hazelnut) were very good. Place has tables and also offers food and drinks. A decent bakery selection as well! Will definitely be stopping back for some coffee if we are ever in the area. What can I say? My wife and I were headed to Marlinton, WV, as part of our summer camping. I'd been to Marlinton, perhaps a decade ago, and remembered they had a tiny downtown, and a river nearby - the Greenbrier. A gas station or two. A few convenience stores. While waiting out a massive storm at Seneca Rocks, we happened upon a couple of (wonderful) Parks Service personnel, and made inquiries. They concurred that there still wasn't much 'happenin' around Marlinton, but we NEEDED to visit the Dirtbean Cafe. Dirtbean felt like an anachronism. Outstanding, healthy food. A warm sense of community. Healthy, physically active folks. ...and perhaps the best coffee in West Virginia. An exaggeration? I think not. Oh, and they have WiFi as well. And very reasonably priced bike rentals. And a Reiki master. We made new friends there, and visited every one of our five mornings in Marlinton. We left feeling... better for the experience. Thanks you guys. I look forward to seeing you next time. read more

A true find in a wilderness of good places to eat. Go there; you will not be disappointed. We landed in Marlinton to do some biking along the Greenbriar River Trail (a truly amazing experience). We used Yelp to find this place (thank you Yelp!!) A transplanted professional dirt bike racer & artist from Hawaii lands in Marlinton and creates a great place to eat and an eclectic bike shop in one. The tables are mis matched as are the chairs and the floors are cerement so it's not the ambiance you will be talking about. Scattered around are various bike incarnations and out back is a full-fledge bike shop. The fish tacos are great; using tuna is a rare treat. The quesadillas are super; my preference is the chicken but others are good too. Both are served with sour cream and home made picante sauce. Yum. Homemade cookies are not to be missed. Much much better coffee than Starbucks! Breakfast is good too but it's dinner we came back for. (We were there in October 2016 which is a slow season for this area. Be sure to call ahead to get their hours as they do close up when there's not much business. In our case the kitchen was closing at 6:45pm et.) read more

Did a three day bike ride on the Greenbrier and found our way here three times. We were unsure what to expect when we walked into a combination cafe, pizzaria, coffee shop, bike shop (thus the Dirtbean moniker). Two pizzas (veggie and hawaiian - both delicious) and a few mighty tasty WV craft brew drafts later, we were sold. Back the next morning for coffee and breakfast sandwiches and again after the day 's ride for a few more brews and sandwiches (great all around). Friendly staff and free WiFi topped it all off. The coffee's fantastic, and so's the breakfast veggie quiche (which is happily sold all day). I haven't tried to ice cream, but that's next on the list. The setting is extremely comfortable and they offer free wi-fi. This is also a bike shop, so if you need new tires or a quick adjustment, they do that, too. This is mostly a one- to two-person operation, so if you've got a big group ordering, be prepared to wait. They serve meals one at a time. read more

Best introduction to Marlinton! Had just arrived in town for work and was hunting down a place open for dinner, which is hard in Marlinton on a Monday night. I walked in to Dirtbean at 5:50 and they closed at 6. The guy behind the counter not only made an awesome chicken, portabella wrap stuffed with goodness, but did it without complaint and nicely, especially considering they were about to close. I also got the butternut squash soup which was some of the best I've had, definitely homemade. As I was heading out with my food he gave me a chocolate chip cookie that he must have seen my eyeing. The hardest part about the Dirtbean is explaining what the Dirtbean actually is. A restaurant? yes. Coffee shop? Yes. Town meeting place and hangout spot? Yes. Bicycle shop? Oddly enough, yes. Internet cafe? also, yes. The Dirtbean is all these things plus a gym and they have Reiki massages as well. My first thought when I walked in was - where is everything?!?! There were a few tables, a short countertop, and some bikes hanging on the back wall. At first, I thought we were in the wrong place. There is a little hallway between the bikes and the countertop that leads you to all the other stuff, including the restrooms. I figured the kitchen must be back there as well. Nope. The little stove and other appliances behind the counter are it. We had just gotten into town the day before the Roadkill Cookoff festival, and we decided to stop in here for a bite to eat. The coffee was great, and I am not a big coffee drinker. We ordered a chicken quesadilla to share. With only one person working, and a pretty small cooking setup to work with, you might think that stuff would be premade. No. The guy behind the counter cut the chicken, cooked it, then put it between the tortillas with the other ingredients and back on the heat to melt the cheese. Granted, a chicken quesadilla isn't exactly hard to make, but I loved the fact that they cook the chicken fresh to order, rather than having precooked, dry chicken chunks already done. This is even more impressive considering that this one guy was also making the coffee, selling newpapers, and selling bike parts. The food was quite good, and the guy working there was very friendly and helpful. If you happen to be in Marlinton or just passing through, it's worth a pitstop to check out the Dirtbean for yourself. read more

Stopped in for coffee with my wife before getting on the Greenbrier Bike Trail, took a look at the menu and decided to return after our ride. 18 miles later we ordered the 14" Hawaiian Pizza and the Veggie Quesadilla, mine was the pizza. I'd consider myself a bit of a pizza snob, I do love crust, and the thicker the better, but this was the best thin crust pizza I've ever had, cheese wasn't mozzarella alone, and yep, I polished off the whole pie myself.
