Moved to Minden from So Cal where we had Directv and AT&T wireless. We were told AT&T does not provide wifi in our area but we could get satellite wifi from Hughesnet. So the Directv operator sets us up for install of Hughesnet and Directv. The installer for Hughesnet comes out, hooks up the satellite and tells us that the company is not giving out modems and that ours will be mailed to us in 2 weeks. And the one we were going to get was not powerful enough to cover our 3700 sq ft house. He recommended that we buy our own. So, off to Best Buy we went. $400+ later, we hooked up the modem. The phones said we had wifi, but there was no wifi. Called tech support. Everything seemed ok but the tech asked, "Is it cloudy there?" Yes, it was high clouds. "The system won't work if it's cloudy." WHY were we not told this BEFORE installing a satellite on our roof and drilling holes through wall? To top it off, I told the tech I was not paying for any of this and not only was I charged an installation and modem fee, I was charged for one day's use of wifi. Thank goodness directv was scheduled to install the following week-I hurriedly cancelled them. read more

Install went OK. Service is working OK at home on dish equipment. On the other hand, when away from home, I can't watch online on my laptop. When I try, it tells me I have to install Adobe. After I install Adobe, it tells me I have to install Direct TV player. After I install it, it goes back to screen saying I have to install Adobe, ad nauseum. I have been through this loop several times. I then call customer service and get a semi coherent to incoherent Philipino CSR that knows virtually nothing. After several attempts, I finally got one that spoke decent English without a heavy accent. After explaining to him in detail the problem I encountered, he put me on hold for a LONG time and then came back to say he was emailing me a link. When I pulled up the link, it simply suggested rebooting my computer, which I did, and as expected, to no avail. I'm an old guy who has dealt with CSRs over many decades and I have to say that Direct TV customer service has to be the worse I have ever encountered. read more

They flat out lied about the two year locked in price. It is for one year then suddenly your bill almost doubles. Then you get the double talk of how they sent you written notice of the price only being good for one year. I asked "so you are telling me that the verbal contract made with you is changed by you when you send out the work order after I already paid you?". She would not answer, just kept going back to the same statement about what they put in writing not what you are told when you sign up and pay for it. Lying THIEVES!!! read more

Be aware that if you are successful at cancelling DirecTV they will not remove their dish from your house. In order to talk to anyone you must spend ten minutes "talking" to a female-like robot voice and when I had cancelled they told me they would be out soon to remove the dish. Today, I wasted another 15 minutes of my time getting to a live person and was told the dish is mine and it's my responsibility to remove it. Fortunately, I am a nearly 75 year old woman with enough mechanical ability to do just that, rather than, as DirecTV advised, hiring "any technician [other than a DTV technician]" to remove it. Every time there is a major TV event, this company can't handle it. First it was the Oscars. Total darkness for the first half of the broadcast. People in town with Charter said they had no problem with the broadcast. Now it's the Olympics. During the day, no problem. At night, when large numbers of households are probably trying to watch, it cuts out for large periods of time. Good job, Direct TV. I'm sure nothing will change. read more

What a scammer of a company.....warning......avoid this company. I signed up for their 2 year contract in Calif. where we lived, moved to Nevada with less than a year left, about 3 mos. before the 2 years were up, I had a problem with the main receiver and they came out and said they had to upgrade as the one I had was no longer made. They replaced it, after my 2 year commitment I decided to change to local company. They said i would be charged 354.00 for early cancelation....what? I fulfilled it....no they say, I renewed for 2 more years when they replaced my control box......I asked for a copy of my signature on a renewal and they could not produce it. Now it is on my credit record as I refuse to pay it......bad company....scammers. read more

My problems with direct tv started several years ago when direct tv sent a guy out to our home to sell us insurance on our televisions and our computers. The man told us that if we paid $12 extra on our bill that our TV's and computers would be covered to be repaired and if a repair for the item was not possible for $50 service charge they would replace said unit. The guy went from room to room and looked at each television and wrote down how many we had at the time and made note of the PC and the laptop. We being retired and on a fixed income did this program. I am a disabled veteran and my husband is also a veteran. Then I will move forward about two to three years and we start having problems with the television in our living room. We had a TV in the living room, one in the master bed room and one in another bedroom and one in our RV. The one in the living room was going off and on. I contacted direct TV and they sent a guy out to our home to assess the situation. When he arrived and was looking at the TV in our living room he about flipped out. He tells me we do not insure anything but flat screen televisions and never do we insure tube or projection type televisions. I said well the man who came out here about three years ago said we were good to go and he knew full well what each and every one of these television sets were. We had been paying on the policy monthly all that time and direct TV was sure happy to take our money. I had to contact direct TV and they told me they would give me a couple of months discount on my bill but they would not refund the money that we had paid for that insurance. I think this is fraud and that direct TV knew full well what their sales people were doing. I really did have a bad taste in my mouth from that time on. Then we knid of fell on hard time my husband had to have his left leg amputated due to his being a diabetic and I fell and broke my wrist off from my hand and had to have surgery and we fell behind and they shut off our service which I realize is their business. I called Direct TV and asked them to send someone out to pick up the equipment since both my husband and I were in pretty bad shape. I also sent them an email with the same request. I heard nothing from direct TV. About a month goes by and I find two boxed on the door step left by the postman sent by direct TV. Part of our equipment was in a rather hard to reach upper shelf in a closet and since my husband could not climb a ladder due to his lack of his left leg and I could not disconnect anything since I had just had surgery and could not even use my right hand it took us about a week to get some help packing up the equipment. We then took it to the post office and sent it back. About ten days later I noticed a charge from direct TV on my bank account for $306. I called them and got some nasty woman who would not let me talk to a supervisor and told me that we did not return the equipment owned by direct TV. I told her we most certainly did and she informed me not in a timely manner and I tried to explain to her our situation and she did not care one bit. Direct TV has never returned our money and they kept charging us for a couple of more months for the regular bill because they said we just had limited programming. Well we did not have limited programming from them we had none and finally I got an amazon fire stick and that is what we had for TV. My last bill should have been $124 which I did not pay due to the fact that they had stolen money from my bank account. It is my opinion that Direct TV not only perpetrated fraud on us with their phone replace your television insurance program but they also stole money from my bank account when they had most assuredly received the returned equipment from us in that ten day period. The equipment went by US Mail not by Pony Express or a Mule Team. They are not a reputable company in my opinion and anyone who uses their services better keep a close eye on everything you do. They will rip you off without thinking twice about it. They never tried to work with us or to send anyone out to help us with the returning of the equipment. Neither one of us was able to drive at that time so I think Direct TV deserves to have a big black mark on their record. They will tell you any lie just to get you to sign up for their insurance program and look you right in the eye with their smiling faces just to get their commissions I suppose for selling the most policies. My husband and I are as I said both veterans, I am a disabled veteran with 15 years service to my country, we are both severely disabled and we are both senior citizens. I am 70 and my husband is 68. It looks to me like direct TV likes to take advantage of the disabled, the crippled and our senior citizens. All this after we had been excellent customers of direct TV for 15 years so we meant nothing to this company they just kicked us to the curb. read more
