We're tried a bunch and Mrs. K. consistently rates the custard from Freddy's as one of the very better chains. So we popped in here as we're passing through the Mississippi/Ohio convergence and got a chocolate custard to go. The location is tidy with no litter in the parking lot. Inside, the dining room was quiet and empty which seemed odd considering it was 5pm on a Friday. I placed my order and had a look around - tables and floors were clean. A minute or three later, frozen custard handed over and I was back on the way east. The custard was delicious and creamy. A good one. Freddy's remains a solid choice for frozen custard. Today however there was a bit of a delay. Everyone seemed to have been waiting a longer than usual time for their meals. The burger was tasty but the fries weren't the same shoestring fries Freddy's is known for. I was a little disappointed to have received regular fries. I don't know if they were understaffed or had new staff altogether but it was certainly a different experience than I am used to to at this location.

Just Hamburgers: Just okay…read more.. My cousin and I dropped by Just Hamburgers for a late lunch, lured in by the name and the promise of--well, hamburgers. Naturally, we expected a lineup of mouthwatering burger options. Plot twist: the menu was as barebones as it gets. Think "hamburgers or hot dogs" with little to no personality. No signature sauces, no quirky creations--just vibes and buns. I stepped up to order and was immediately thrown into a conversation about my shirt. (Fashion critique wasn't on the menu, but sure.) I asked about the burger size, and was told--deadpan--they're "flat." Well, that clears that up. Eventually, I was informed that a double is "about the size of a quarter pounder." Cool, I guess? I ordered a burger with mayo and chili, to which the guy replied, "That's odd, but okay." Look, either make it the way I like it or lock the doors, buddy--because this wasn't shaping up to be a five-star first impression. When my food was handed over in a paper bag with zero inquiry about dine-in or takeout, we just sat down at a dirty table and unwrapped our meal. What awaited me was the burger equivalent of déjà vu--basically a McDonald's cheeseburger in witness protection. To be fair, the food was fresh and hot. But the flavor? Aggressively average. We even debated swinging by a drive-thru afterward just to feel something again. That said, I'll give them this: it was oddly refreshing to see they serve real all-beef franks. A small win in a sea of "meh." Bottom line: If I'm nearby and need a snack, I might circle back. But I won't be making a pilgrimage for this one. Just Hamburgers lives up to its name--emphasis on just.

I ordered the Chicken Parmesan sandwich with fries same hubby ordered fish and chips. The waitress brought out a basket of rolls with whipped butter. Those were excellent rolls. Yeasty and soft. The butter was perfect too. Loved the rolls. Our meal came and immediately I was impressed with their fish and chips. The menu says hand breaded. The fish looked amazing. Hubby said it very good, great breading, nice and crispy. Great tartar sauce too. I wish I had tried it. My fries were not crispy (no double fry) not crispy at all. They were hot and cooked though. My sandwich was pretty good, not excellent. It had a bit too much sauce in it for me. It had a good flavor and the toasted garlic roll was good. I will be back, but I think I will try something else next time.

To be fair, the servers were very kind and doing their absolute best, but the restaurant was clearly understaffed. Everyone looked frantic, which set the tone right away. The dining room was also freezing, with cold air constantly sweeping in from outside -- not exactly the cozy lunch my mom and I were hoping for. My mom ordered her favorite, the shrimp and grits, and she loved it. Clean plate, no complaints from her. I wish I could say the same for my meal. I ordered the prime rib after asking the server about it. She assured me it was juicy and looked great today. I asked for medium rare. What arrived was a dry, gray slab of meat that was nowhere near medium rare. I cut into it to show her how overdone and dry it was, and she took it back. Eight minutes later, a second prime rib arrived. This one had a tiny bit of pink, but still mostly gray, still dry, and still absolutely not fresh. It tasted like leftover prime rib from the day before that had been microwaved -- that unmistakable reheated texture and flavor. It was honestly disgusting. I choked down less than half before giving up. The baked potato was the only thing I could actually enjoy. The broccoli had a strange, unpleasant taste and went untouched. My mom would genuinely recommend O'Charley's for the shrimp and grits. But for anything else -- especially the prime rib -- I'd suggest steering clear. Or if you do go, just play it safe and get a baked potato. Very disappointing experience, especially for a $32 prime rib in a small Kentucky town.
