When I was 18 I started coming to Dr. Chen as a last stitch effort to find a dentist that didn't terrify me. Just a few weeks earlier I had gone to a dentist nearby and they told me I had 8 cavities! And they even brought a book out and pointed at a page to tell me what I was doing wrong. I left in tears and so I found a second dentist in Modesto. This second dentist (1 week later) told me I had 12 cavities! Now I suspected something was very wrong. I couldn't have 4 more cavities in only a week, right?? So I went to a Lakeview dental and saw Dr. Chen (again 1 week later). She told me I had 1 cavity and just a bunch of stains on my teeth. I have never gone to another dentist since. 10/10 will recommend.

From the consultation and checking what my insurance covered, to communication with the front desk and the day of my surgery, everything was organized and professional. Everyone there is also incredibly kind and made me feel well taken care of. I'm currently in the healing phase, but so far, so good! I was offered an opening the same day, and I was assured that it would be no problem to complete my necessary paperwork for school on the spot. The office is modest and not over the top, unpretentious (a HUGE plus) and child friendly. The dental assistant Jaci was wonderful with my son, very calm, explained what he should expect and was very encouraging and positive during the process of cleaning and getting the x rays. Lots of positive feedback, I could tell my son was feeling very comfortable and proud of being at the dentist. My impression of Dr. Bauman is that he very much lets the child lead in terms of how ready they are to even engage in conversation with him. He was not overwhelming, spoke in a soft manner and was very calm. This calm nature helped create a peaceful energy as he counted my child's teeth and discussed his specific dental bill of health and how things looked. What a pleasant experience.

I went to this Dentist for my routine cleaning and check up 8/2026. At the prior visit (6 months…read morebefore), I was told I needed a crown. I declined the crown, and the dentist said she could do a filling instead, so beware of crown offerings. I also had 2 other teeth filled that day. The dentist said she didn't use the silver Amalgam fillings and that the white composite would be a small fee. I paid 107.00 and left happy. For this current visit 8/2026, I had my teeth cleaned and was informed I owed $465.00 in addition to the $107.00 for the 3 white fillings done 6 months prior. Talk about a delay in billing! In my opinion, I was misled regarding the cost of fillings. I also had a simple cavity in which a crown was recommended. Upon complaining to the dental office and the insurance, it was suggested that I make sure the dentist's office submits a preauthorization and cost analysis in writing through the insurance company for everything, even teeth cleanings. Something they should already do for patients who have already informed them not to do anything that isn't covered by insurance!!
