The smoke coming up through the floors was so strong we were getting smoke inhalation symptoms. Gross! But then we noticed that the smell was strongest where our floorboards had wide gaps, and we wondered if flooring might be the answer. We love the look of our historic floors, so preserving that was a big concern for us. We reached out to Thomas about sealing up the gaps with caulking and he responded the same day. He fit us in for a consult within two weeks and sent an estimate one hour after his inspection. One week later, they were in our house working. Even though it was October in Salem, he and his team came out and delivered. 3 weeks from start to finish. For a very fair price, we now have airtight floors that look exactly as aged and beautiful as they were before. We were worried that adding caulk between the boards might take away from their charm, but the team was so careful and neat in their work that you would never noticed the filling unless we pointed it out. I had hired Dan's Floor Store based on a good reference from a family friend that had used them the…read moreyear before. I was installing new hardwood flooring in my dining room to match the existing flooring in the kitchen and hallways so I needed Dan to sand everything down stain and finish the flooring. The day came when their employee showed up to start and all was going well with the sanding. The next day he was back and applied the stain coat, well when we got home we noticed that he had gotten the (dark) stain all over most of the base boards & door casings in the hallway as well as a spot on one of our walls (about 3' up from the floor. All of this wood work and wall had been painted (white) 3 weeks before they came to do their work so we were not happy with this. We had our painter come back and quote us to fix this damaged areas and his quote came in with in $70 of the balance we owed to Dan so Dan decided to cover our painter's bill and the balance we owed him, truly above and beyond. We would refer this company to anyone as we were very happy with the finish results of our floor and despite the damage to our fresh paint they made things right by us.

Not a huge issue but slightly concerning as the floors were done not very long ago. Yesterday I got a splinter in my foot so bad that it took me 2 hours to remove and almost debated going to urgent care. At this point, as we also have two dogs my partner called to see why this could be happening on floors so newly done. My partner called 3 times before reviving a callback only to be met with hostility and defensiveness. Apparently they were on vacation but there was no indication of this on their voicemail or website which stated they were open. We were then blamed for the condition of the floors and no help or suggestions were offered. My partner was then told "I've been in business over 20 years, I'm not worried about your review buddy" which is a shockingly unprofessional thing to say to a paying client. It appears others have had similarly poor experiences, and it also seems the owner handled those the same way he handled ours- by berating the customer, yikes! Edit: No one is trying to attack your business and I don't see anything wrong with my partner being upset after having to reach out 3 times before a callback but I do want to point out it was the owners tone that was aggressive, not my partners. I was present for the entire phone call and was shocked at the attitude coming from the person on the phone. As anyone would be, my partner was unhappy his floors are splintering to the point of injury after only 2 years. A quick internet search reveals the refinishing should have lasted up to 10 years. I'm also not sure why you felt the need to point out these were the worst floors you've ever worked on- my partner had just purchased this home and while that may be true, is an odd thing to feel the need to point out publicly and once again, and unprofessional attempt to bash a customer.
