Fresh ingredients and friendly service is key and this place has it. If you're not familiar with the area it's rather fairly easy to miss since it is tiny and almost tucked away in a corner of the plaza. It's as tiny as it looks from the outside, but they crank out the sandwiches super fast. The bread was perfect, soft and a generous amount of filing. Love this place. I usually order pork/shrimp spring rolls with peanut sauce or a grilled pork sandwich. But everything here is great. The employees are very nice, professional and quick. This is a busy spot, so I recommend calling ahead and picking up your food later. There are times the line has been so long it wrapped around the north end of the building. I always get either the tofu Banh mi or the tofu fresh spring rolls with peanut sauce. For the sandwich The tofu is fried (I think), seasoned and shredded, along with jicama, carrot, cilantro, jalapeños and vegan mayo(I always get reg though cause that's my preference). For the spring rolls it's the same delicious tofu with rice noodles, chopped apple, lettuce, cilantro. Always super consistent and the Vietnamese iced coffee is a fave as well. My only issue is I hate the cilantro sprigs. :( I wish it was just the leaves, so I wouldn't have to worry about taking cilantro sprig selfies. read more

OVERRATED.... OVERPRICED... I paid nearly $20 for a tiny sandwich and an order of spring rolls.... upon ordering I assumed the sandwich would be massive die to the price so I didn't mind.. but boy was I disapointed... I Love Vietnamese food and I've never been so d isapointed. the sandwich was ok but it was definitely not with 8.50... I know I will never come here again. Came here to try the Bunh Mi. They don't have the traditional Vietnamese bunh mi I was hoping for. We got the the Grilled Pork and the Kare Kare. It was not bad, but it was not great either. Felt like an ingredient was missing. The Sandwiches where a little overpriced for the size. It was about $9 for a 6 inch sandwiches. This place has tasty Shaking Beef Sandwiches and Pinball Machines! It may not be much to look at but quality and great flavor is something you will find at Dinosaurs Vietnamese Sandwiches. I must admit that it too me way too long to stop here the first time. I guess the empty shop was something that initially bugged me a bit. What an idiot I was! I can tell you now the Shaking Beef had a great flavor. Just the right kind tangy-spicy-crunchy to go with the succulent beef and soft bread roll! In reality it not that spicy at all. The fresh peppers on my sandwich were kind of mild. Others who need more heat can certainly add more. But it was perfect for me! Couple the Shaking Beef sandwich with a bubble tea from Tea World just down the sidewalk and you have an really flavorful meal! The appearance of the shop is pretty basic. But the tables were clean and ordering was friendly. There are a few tables on the sidewalk to enjoy the Pacifica summer. After you have finished with your meal the beach is just a short walk away. There is even a pedestrian bridge right across the street. So no worry's about crossing Highway 1 (PCH) or needing to take the long way around. 3.5 stars. I would give this place 4 stars if it wasn't for the prices of the sandwiches. Usually Banh mi run for $5 or under but here It's around $8 ($8.50 for the special). Price aside, sandwiches are pretty good. Can't go with the basics: grilled pork, shaking beef, grilled chicken. I've had this place bookmarked for so long but was always weary about the wait, at least for lunch. Expect to wait 15-20 minutes for your sandwich if you don't pre-call your order in. No one really eats here... everyone does takeout but there are a few tables inside and outside. It's nice to eat here because you can feel the breeze and cool air from the ocean. I got the Crispy Tofu Banh Mi which was so much better than similar versions I've had elsewhere. The tofu (along with the taro) is actually cut up/julienned into strips which makes it so much easier to eat. Other places usually fry up tofu rectangles which means you'll get some crispy bites, and some really mushy bites of the tofu's inside. I was worried veganaise would ruin the banh mi but it tasted similar enough to regular mayo. The sandwich also has a LOT of pickled carrots, some pickled daikon, and fresh cilantro and jalapenos. With some squirts of sriracha, it became such a delicious creation. In terms of how much the bread ripped up my mouth, I would rank it as a 6. A little higher than normal but not supremely painful. The baguette would be a little softer and more fresh though, but I did like that it was crunchy and not stale. The whole place has the beachy/surfer vibes but they're not slow by any means. Lunch is so busy for them and you can see them working as hard and fast as possible. Don't forget to get a smoothie. read more

I have very mixed feelings about this place... I've been going pretty much every other week for a couple years, but have noticed some decline in quality in the last few months. Here's what I order and what I stay away from: - I stay away from the beef sandwich because it has caused me stomach distress / bathroom emergencies on more than one occasion :/ - I LOVE the chicken Bahn mi!! This is what I keep coming back for. They pack it with pickled veg, the bread is great.. just plain GOOD bahn mi. - I used to love (but now stay away from) the chicken and shrimp spring rolls because the last couple times I've ordered them the shrimp is just Nasty. Like it's stinky and some have a visible green/brown color around the edges. Some of the veggies in there seem less than fresh lately too. I'm really sad about these because they used to be so good. What happened?!? So yeah, go for the chicken Sandwhiches (they're Awesome) but stay FAR away from anything with shrimp. read more

I've never had luck with Dinosaurs before. I tried out the one on Ocean Ave and it wasn't the best. So, I was hoping this place would be better even though it's the same establishment. Boy was I wrong. I think $8+ for a banh mi is not reasonable especially in Pacifica. I can get my favorite traditional banh mi in San Francisco for around $5.50. I tried out the meatball and there wasn't anything special about it. The sandwich was sadly pretty small too. Service here was meh and I'm glad I didn't tip. I guess the cashier got our order mixed up and when he had an order finished, he kept calling out the number and looking at us. When my boyfriend said that's not our order, the cashier literally gave him a death stare like he knew he was right. But he wasn't. It worked out in the end but I think the workers can improve on communication and focus more on getting orders out. I love dinosaurs!!! I always get the pork banh mi and pork/shrimp spring rolls. So fresh and quality ingredients. For the price, I do wish the portions were a lot bigger. I think it's quite overpriced to be honest. Definitely not a regular spot for me, once in awhile as a treat for sure (that being said, when I want a banh mi, I come here). The spring rolls have green apple in them which adds a whole new flavor profile that I LOVE! I started adding Apple to mine I make at home because of it! The Thai tea is also great, They brew the tea strong, which is a huge plus for me. Nothing worse than a weak Thai tea. They also have unique chips to choose from and sriracha keychains! Growing up in Oakland, I'm very use to authentic delicious banh mi from Viet town. Cam Huong & Banh Mi Ba Le gang where yall at?! Being your typical Asian, just let me b*tch about the price one time. While i was in the east bay, never once have i had to pay over $4 for a bomb ass banh mi. I was already pretty salty when I became an adult, and moved to SF to find myself paying $6 for banh mi sandwich. but damn, $8 for a banh mi is STEEP. But i will give Dino's the benefit of the doubt. If i owned a business in this area, i would overcharge as well. and they're not skimping on quality. I've ordered the special and also the shaking beef as well. Both very delicious. Meat is tender, the veggies are fresh every time, and everything is placed in a well toasted french baguette. And if i have to put on my big girl pants and pay $8 for the best banh mi i can get around this area, you bet your 8 bucks i will. read more

As recently I've been consuming less meat, I discovered Dinosaurs offered some vegetarian options which I opted for. First I tried their Tofu & Taro Spring Rolls. As the taro is deep fried, I couldn't really taste it. The roll as a whole doesn't taste much and mainly tastes of the dipping sauce that you use. Without the sauce it's dry and just okay. I got the peanut sauce and it was thick and savory. I also tried their Roasted Portobello Sandwich which had generous portobello servings. However in both cases, after I removed the jalapenos and cilantro the portion was smaller as they stuffed it with a lot of cilantro. Next time I'll probably have to tell them to leave them out for me so maybe they can put more other veggies in for me instead. read more

Probably the best spring rolls I've had in a while. The peanut sauce is super delicious too. It's the perfect peanut sauce. It's like a mix of a savory nut flavor but with a hoisin umami like sweetness. They give a lot of sauce too. I didn't think that the 3 rolls would make me full but it is very filling. I only had to eat 2 to feel full. But I did add Sriracha to every bite . This is my first time trying Vietnamese coffee. I'm not a huge fan of it, but maybe that means I don't like it in general. It is way too sweet for me. I had to add a lot of almond milk to it in a separate cup when I got home to make it more palatable for me but I guess the bright side is that I ended up with even MORE coffee after . I could tell that the Vietnamese coffee by itself is strong and not bitter which is good. What I didnt know is that they also have bowls but they don't show it on their online menu. When you go to order in person (1 person inside at a time of course), you can see they offer vermicelli bowls as well. read more

tl;dr pricey but amazingly delicious banh mi and refreshing drinks I really wanted to not like Dinosaurs... because seriously who wants to pay $8+ for a banh mi?! Apparently a lot of people because there was a 20 min wait when we went on a Sunday afternoon. But, I have to admit their sandwiches are darn good. I got the special and it had the perfect proportion of meat, pate, carrot/daikon, and mayo. The bread was nicely toasted but not overly so where it cuts the roof of your mouth. The pate was delicious and every bite was perfect. So yes, the sandwich was amazing but I am not sure if it was $8.50 amazing (I could almost get two sandwiches elsewhere for that price). The spring rolls ($8.50) were only okay, and can be skipped. The watermelon litchi was refreshing and hits the spot for those sunny Pacifica days (and also pricey at $4+). read more

Spicy tuna is also my favorite but I have to take out the peppers because it's so hot. The thai tea helps if you accidentally bite one. Highly recommend this restaurant you won't be disappointed. Totally not worth it for $8-$9 per sandwich. It's just hard to justify. Even if it was amazing (it was not), it's still not worth it. I was in a bind and was also craving a banh mi so I quickly yelped to see what was close by. Service was okay. The sandwiches were skimpy on the protein and packed with veggies.
