    Wall on the entry way.

Old town and old spot. Walls were covered with sports memorabilia covering decades. Menu focused on meat and two or meat and three. Took me back to the local places I went as a kid. I had the country style steak, mashed potatoes, fried okra and green beans. The wife had the hot beef sandwich. Well prepared The service was great and I think there was a smile behind the mask.

    Lasagna and bread, delicious!

Though a very different lasagna recipe, some of the best I've had. Nothing fancy, but good food and friendly staff.

It was early afternoon and busy, so we sat at the bar to save time. When we looked at the menu, we thought everything looked pricey but figured it would be worth it. We ordered the namesake dishes: the Chicken Bella Vita for me and the Veal Bella Vita for my husband. Wait staff was very nice and indicated it was a good choice. We also ordered a bottle of wine (way overpriced for what it was). The bread and the extra olive oil dip we ordered were delicious, as were the salads. Then we waited. And waited. Over an hour after finishing our salads, the entrees finally arrived. I'm patient with holiday crowds, but no place should take this long. When the food arrived, I was not impressed by the portions for a $25.99 entree, but I hoped the taste would make up for it. It didn't. There was no taste at all! It was supposed to be a champagne sauce, but it tasted like flavorless biscuit gravy with no salt--and no cheese was offered to help it out. My 'Bella Vita' plate had only about 2 bites of chicken, 3 shrimp, and a few pieces of artichoke with some sun-dried tomatoes. I get that poor planning can make a holiday meal prep a challenge, but we paid full price--over $100 for two people before tip. We won't be returning.

As we waited for the others to arrive, we both got a drink. Within 10 minutes the others showed up and our table was ready. Cam, who was one of the bartenders, waited on us. She was phenomenal. Seating is a mix of booths and tables. It can get crowded if you are in the middle, so select your location accordingly. On this visit we ordered take out. All food was well packaged and made the short trip home easily, although no napkins or utensils were included. The garlic knots were smaller than expected, but there were a lot of them. Garlic flavor was noticeable, but not as strong as I have had at other places. The bread was doughy and pretty filling. The meatball parmesan was decent. The pasta was cooked properly, but the meatballs did not have a lot of flavor. Most distracting was the very sweet marinara sauce. Overall flavor was minimal, but the sweet marinara made it cloying. The accompanying garlic bread slice was good and moist with nice garlic flavor. The Italian nachos were very good. These could easily be a meal by themselves. The chicken was a little dry, but everything else was cooked and assembled properly.

Would I call it New York style ?...ehhhh...meh...probably not. I grew up in Central PA where all the pizza places were owned by NY/NJ transplants. The differences here are typical to what I've found in the South during my 37 years here. The dough doesn't quite have the gluten chew of NY pie and tends to be heavier. You don't get the airy bubbles on the crust end, etc The cheese is different as well and lacks the stretch of NY pie. The other differences are prep/convenience choices ...the Italian sausage here is ground and the onions and green peppers are diced. True NY pie uses sliced Italian sausage (looks just like the pepperoni) and jullienne cut veggies. These may seem like insignificant things but it matters. So...if you like the doughier Mellow Mushroom type pie this will satisfy you. If you're from the northeast and want something to make you feel like you're back home... then not so much. Get the single slice with pepperoni or just plain cheese if your want a foldable slice.
