Coming from San Francisco this place was a bit of a joke to me. The inside is attractive and has a trendy feel to it, but the menu is wacky... Their thing is to take a few items from every Asian culture and do a mediocre/bastardized job of preparing it. Sure if you're not used to good Asian food, this could be your gateway drug. But if you're a pro, best to stay away. The dim sum was passable, but the crispy duck looked like it had exploded and was a poor attempt at Peking duck. Next! read more

Great spot for dim sum and Asian cuisine in Fitzrovia. We started dinner with Prosecco and a Pornstar Martini. The Martini was super fruity and delicious, but not that strong. It was also served with Sake instead of Prosecco which was a fun twist. For appetizers we ordered the Bao Buns, Chicken Gyoza and the Korean Bbq Dim Sum. The Bao Buns were absolutely incredible!! So delicious and full of flavor. Chicken Gyoza was good, nothing crazy fancy. The Korean Bbq dim sum was amazing! Definitely a must try. For entrées we ordered the BBQ Pork Roasted Ramen and the Crispy Aromatic Duck with Egg Fried Noodles. The Ramen was good but nothing special, the Duck was delicious and the noodles were great too. We ended dinner with Espresso Martinis that were amazing and very rich in flavor. Overall great experience and very friendly service from the staff. I liked this place for the buzz it has. As soon as you walk in you know you're somewhere people want to come to, so immediately I begin over analysing the joint. Friendly staff, slightly slow at taking our order but then we did not have a reservation and it would be fair to say they were run off their feet. I ordered the Crispy Cod and I was not disappoint in the the slightest. In fact I let my self down by not finishing the dish before it got cold. Substantial amount of fish in a lovely sauce in which I think I could pick out a hint of tamarind. Possibly the best battered cod I have in the last couple of years. Came with a couple of friends for an early Sunday dinner. Very quiet, with just a couple of tables occupied. The restaurant ambiance was good, nice modern, relaxing decor. The service was excellent. Nothing was too much trouble. The platter was nice, lots of variety, with prawn toast, edemame, chicken satays, spiced squid, and spring rolls, with three dipping sauces. The Katsu chicken curry was really good too, but not aware that it does not include rice and you need to order separately, and not as part of the main course. Who has curry without rice? So I ordered coconut rice. It came with coconut flakes rather than coconut flavoured rice, but it was good with the crunch of the flakes against the rice. The chicken was succulent and moist inside the breadcrumbs. I like they did not smother it with the curry so that it is swimming in it, and the curry then becomes soup! The prawn Pad Thai was disappointing, unfortunately, the prawns were on the small size and dish was a bit dry. I would have preferred the wider noodles, then thin noodles. It also could have done with a bit more vegetables, rather than just a few beansprouts. The food is bit hit and miss which is a shame. But the portions are substantial. I would definitely go back for the Katsu, it is the best I have tasted. read more

Dim T on London's trendy Charlotte Street is a fantastic place to go to for a catch up with your girlfriends. Modern and comfortable the atmosphere is relaxed yet vibrant and the Dim Sums were some of the best I've ever tasted. However, they were considerably overpriced. A bow of four cost £6 so they are not a meal in themselves but more of a snack to accompany a drink and a chat. Dim T also offers traditional Thai and Chinese dishes as well as allowing you to make up your own noodle dish at the noodle bar. The restaurant is always extremely busy so the best time to go down is in the late afternoon or before 7pm. read more

So Charlotte Street on a (probably the first) warm sunny Friday of the year. So many places we could have ended up but the Poker Shark was really feeling like dim sum so we ended up in Dim T. It's a small group with 8 locations, 6 of them in London, and it does have that chain feel to it. The staff are friendly, but not particularly knowledgeable and while I'd prefer to eat in a hygienic establishment, I'd rather not see bottles of cleaning product on the serving counter. Similar in style, there are certainly no surprises if you've eaten in the now near ubiquitous Ping Pong. We settled in next to a party of local office workers and ordered a few mixed dishes from the smiling Scandinavian host. Starting off with a plate of Crispy Duck to share, I wasn't overly impressed with a flabby, overly fatty portion of meat and a sub MacDonald's size portion of overly sweet hoisin. The steamed dumplings were better thankfully. We went for the Prawn and Chive and the Mushroom steamed dim sum and a couple of portions of the Char Sui pork buns. The flavours all came through well (with the possible exception of the mushroom, slightly too Cream of Campbell Soup to be honest) but I've definitely had worse. The Char Sui buns were hot, fresh and a definite improvement on Ping Pong - though overall, the whole experience only served to make me crave a proper dim sum blow out.. read more

The food here is pretty tasty and all the sauces that came with the dim sum were well seasoned. I tried pretty mcuh every shrimp dumpling and dim sum option. The spicy shrimp ones were my personal favorite. The vegetable spring rolls were tasty and served very hot. Be careful not to scorch the tongue on these. Nice dining environment and seems like a good place to bring a group and try a ton of new items with. I went with just a friend and our table was covered. Would normally be a solid 4 in my book but some dishes came out luke warm and hot food for dim sum is a must! Also the prices are pretty average and not a steal for anything on the meny. Try it if you're in the area, but definitely no somewhere to venture away from chinatown for. read more

Hand on my heart, I'd never had proper dim sum before! I had had the odd dumpling from a chinese takeaway, but never as a meal solely on its own. Even though my friend who isn't really a fan of dim sum described it as 'soggy little parcels of shit' and 'smelling of feet', I was still interested in trying it! On a Friday night we were struck with hunger, so we called Dim T to make a reservation. The guy asked when, and when we told him 15 or 20 minutes, he seriously laughed at first. For a moment I was confused because does that mean it's not full at all, they have an overabundance of tables, or does that mean we had no hope in hell? Turns out it was bustling in there. Jokes on him though, as we did manage to score a table 20 minutes later! We started with spicy edamame (which seemed to be flavoured with a General Tsao kinda sauce) which was DELICIOUS. I was positively groping those things. After an order of spring rolls (a little on the oily side, but pay no mind) I ordered spicy chicken and cashew chicken coriander, but I sampled spicy beef and chicken wasabi mushroom. OMG! Now granted I was in a semi-drunk state (tipsy, if you will), I am now a huge fan! They were a little difficult to eat at first, but I ended up just stabbing them. I popped to the loo (they passed inspection), and when I came back was presented with a weird looking sea urchin in the bottom of a glass mug. Okay really it was a jasmine flower! It came with a pot of honey which you stick a teaspoon or two into to sweet it up. Despite the odd petal in my mouth, it was a wonderful flavour. Last but not least were our fortune cookies. They were friggin mini-scrolls, how awesome! I learned you have to eat your cookie before you read your fortune. Mine had something to do with success, or something. I had a great dim sum experience. Once, I went here for lunch and had some nice laksa and perfectly edible edamame with a friend. We had tea afterwards. Another time, I went here for lunch with the boy and had some nice laksa and some extremely over-priced dim sum and THE TABLE COLLAPSED. The waiter did not notice. We had to hold the table up, re-attach the legs, and try not to spill the soup. No apology, not even acknowledgment - however inappropriate it might have been - that the situation was mildly hilarious. Instead, some flustering about. Very helpful. So, on balance (or not, arf arf), 3 stars. Go to Chinatown for dim sum - the tables don't collapse. Laksa's good though. read more

Lunch in Dim T was underwhelming at best. The decor was nice, the atmosphere was great, the neighborhood is one of my favourite in London, but the food was the very definition of "unremarkable". A group of us from the office took a colleague to Dim T for her birthday lunch, on the recommendation of another colleague. We got our little 2-for-1 vouchers for the website and meandered down to the restaurant. The starters were fine--prawn crackers and edamame--but everyone seemed entirely unimpressed with their main. I had to resort to the ol' standby of Pad Thai, as it was one of the only things on the menu that did not contain the bell peppers that I so detest. It was overly sweet with a sparse smattering of boringly poached chicken and flaccid beansprouts. It wasn't BAD pad thai, to be fair, but if I was ranking all the pad thai I've come across in my life, it would certainly be in my bottom 25%. My group of special-occasion-lunch-colleagues tend to be quite vocal about how wonderful or poor their meals are. There was very little conversation regarding the actual food at our Dim T lunch, save for the occasional "Man, I wish I'd gotten the crispy duck. The one I got is a bit boring." We ended up agreeing that, though the lunch wasn't actually unpleasant, we were glad we had our vouchers because it would have been a serious disappointment at full price. The meal ended up costing £58 for the 7 of us, but this was with three 2-for-1 vouchers on the mains. I might be willing to try this place again for the dim sum, but as a fellow San Franciscan, I think I'll likely take Jeremy S's advice and save my dim sum consumption for my next trip back to The Bay. read more

Popped in for a late dinner after a movie. It was a weekday night and the place was quite busy. We managed to get a cosy table by the sofas. Cute lamps and lanterns hung above the tables, though a bit low I nearly bumped into them a few times - and I'm already a pretty short/petite person We both ordered tea for drinks, which came served in individual teapots. For starters we ordered the sharing platter, although not fantastic (and not served quite as hot as we would have liked it to be) was still pretty decent. The spring rolls, prawns and squid was tasty, but the ribs were too hard and dry. Edamame beans also quite cold. For mains we both ordered the seafood laksa, mainly out of curiousity. As a laksa-loving Asian, I'm always on the lookout for the best ones! In terms of comparison to the laksa that I've tried in the past, this soup was much more diluted and not very creamy and rich. Plenty of squid and prawns, though could do with a bit more colour and better presentation. As a laksa dish, I wouldn't count it as anywhere close to authentic, but as a noodle soup dish and based on just flavour, it was pretty tasty. (old opinion: I moved away in 2007. Compare to more recent ratings) I have seen the chaos and noise of many a Dim Sum joint in North America, which consistently remind me why I adored Dim T. I ate there at least 10 times. Even during peak times the place was quiet enough for a conversation. The dumpling cart is wheeled around slowly, giving you and your party enough time to re-focus on the key decisions facing you in the next few seconds. To have or not to have? Meat or seafood? These key issues are easily addressed by the wait staff, who are eager to explain the minutiae of what is about to become your dinner. If dim sum isn't your cuppa green tea, the possible combinations of their noodle selection are enough to guarantee a lifetime of tastings. Did I mention the price? I was a student, and I loved it. Dim T is classy enough to bring a date / parent / girlfriend's parents yet not pretentious enough to swallow a student loan. I hope they haven't changed. read more

If you know what authentic Asian food tastes like, don't eat here. It will leave you sad, hungry, and disappointed. I ordered the tom yum noodle soup with prawns - it had two teenie tiny baby shrimps, not even a chopstick full of rice noodles and veggies. The broth was appropriately red-colored but not spicy as it should be (which I found strange), and it tasted of lemongrass but no cilantro. £8.5!! I was still hungry after I finished it and felt ripped off. I usually don't write reviews but had to warn fellow foodies to stay away. I guess this is what passes for Asian food in the UK. Go to Côte down the street for home style french food for a little bit more money. U will leave much happier!! read more

Me and my husband love this place and eat here about once a week - always can get a table and they always remember us. Wide selection of food and each dish as tasty as the next (and we have tried most). Good size portions and reasonably priced. Plus they offer mocktails which are amazing!! Sometimes ill go at lunch just for the dim sum! Some dishes require you to order rice or noodles as well. They offer a gteat lunch menu as well which you can take away if your im a rush (and its a bit cheaper) Also has some outside seating. read more

The crispy duck is by far a must-have. It's lean, not greasy or gamey, and of course, perfectly crispy without being chewy or tough. The side of chicken gyoza and pork buns were not anything special, but are nice accompaniments for family-style sharing. The service was very friendly, smiley, and accommodating. The restaurant itself is adorable--particularly because of the sakura blossom theme. I went here with my team for lunch and it was fantastic! You do need to be a little careful on the ordering and make sure you listen to the wait staff when they explain things. We didn't order enough so lunch went on longer than we expected but because service was so fast it arrived in plenty of time. I do recommend this as a great alternative to Ping Pong. I went here for dinner and wasnt as convinced as i am a mega ping pong fan. The dim sum selection is no where near as extensive as the ping of ping. However the menu is more varied with dim sum alongside stir fries and pad thai, and thai curry. the portions were pretty huge - i couldn't finish mine which is a first for me! Cute little dim sum place in Charlotte Street, just perfect for meeting a friend from out of town. Now, I must admit, I'm not the biggest dim sum guru, in fact, I'm sure I've only ever eaten it a few times in my life. This place left me pleasently surprised. The decor is bright and it seemed fairly busy, there was a multitude of plates on offer and service was swift. The standout for me were pork buns - white, light, cloudy sweet buns of porky goodness. Popped into Dim t for the first ever time for lunch today. Like lots others here I am an avid fan of ping pong and was initially concerned that the menu seemed a little brief. However, every single mouthful was a delight and the noodle and curry dishes were utterly amazing. We ordered grilled chicken gyoza, chicken satay, baskets of chicken and cashew nut and beef and chive dumplings and a big pot of jasmine tea. My boyfriend had classic guilty pleasure Katsu curry- and I opted for a big bowl of chicken and udon noodles with a spicy, fragrant red curry sauce. Really, everything was incredible. Fresh and hot, spicy and delicate. The dumplings were soft, steamed parcels of joy. The curry silky, creamy and full of crisp beansprouts, sweet carrot and tender chicken. We wolfed it down before reclining on the comfy sofas - dotted with silk cushions - and got to mopping our brows. Meal was £40 for 2 (without booze) which isn't cheap but the service was really charming and fast. Will go back. read more

I had the chicken gyoza noodle soup. The good: There were lots of vegetables, the food was hot, and the flavours were decent (as long as you don't come in expecting authentic Chinese food). The bad: There were only about four gyoza dumplings, a minimal amount of noodles, and the soup stock tasted like a Knorr bouillon cube. It was only half as filling as I would have liked, so immediately after paying I walked down the street for a slice of pizza. read more

I went to Dim T with friends after work last week and I was really looking forward to it. I'd had a brief look at the menu and website before hand and thought I was going to be in for a real treat- to be honest I was surprised I could afford it! But I was spoilt for choice in terms of what I liked the look of on the menu, everything looked so tasty! I went for the Sweet Coconut dish- noodles with prawns and veg in a coconut sauce and I have to admit, I was really disappointed. I've read the reviews here and I must have gone on a bad day, but my noodles were completely overcooked and slimy, with very few prawns on the plate and the vegetables were in short supply. In addition, the meal started with extremely slow service, which I never mind when it's busy, but the place was dead, it was only 6pm after all. But I had high expecations for my main which sounded amazing on the menu (as did virtually everything)- and with ingredients that I love I was surpised at how horrible the meal was. So much to the point, that I needed to order a dessert to get the taste out of my mouth. The dessert by the way was the iced berries and hot white chocolate sauce which was absolutely gorgeous, and so simple! But it took 30 minutes to get the dessert! Luckily my friends an I were not in a rush but we were hungry... My friends on the other hand loved their meals and would go back in a heartbeat, as would I but only because I really want to like the place. The restaurants are all very attractive and the desserts are excellent, if only my main was up to scratch, but as I said perhaps it was just an off day. I would have gave DimT a 3.5, but I cannot. Overall I think it is a nice place to have lunch or after work drink with colleagues. DimT's staff is very nice and the atmosphere is always buzzing. I think their choices in the menu are good, but not Earth shattering. People going to eat there must remember that it is an "Asian Fusion" restaurant. Consequently, the dishes will not be the most authentic you can find. That said, I really like their spicy prawns dim sum. read more

Don't be misled by the name: this restaurant not only does great dim sum but also amazing noodle dishes. They have a great variety of dim sum, lots of which I had never tried before--like spinach dumplings and spicy cod dumplings---as well as perennial favorites like the pork cloud/bun. It's best to go early, as tables were in hot demand after 7PM. The service was attentive but relaxed, and the location---in the middle of Charlotte Street---is great for people watching if you sit on the veranda. read more

I don't even know where to start. The service was terrible. After waiting for 15 minutes at our table, we were greeted by our waiter who hardly spoke any English and was not capable of answering any questions about the menu. What's more, she also managed to mess up our beverage order twice and proceeded to include the beverages that we didn't order on the bill. Even more absurd was when she asked me to read the last 4 digits of my new cc to her because she didn't know how to read them herself when the charge machine requested that she enter it in the machine. Also, the dim sum and other food we ordered was over steamed and tasted awful. Worst dim sum I have ever had hands down. I sincerely regret dining at this restaurant. Such a waste of time. Wonderful, elevated, deeply satisfying Asian cuisine. Try a dim sum flight to begin... The spicy prawn is outstanding, but many are good, served quickly and steaming hot. Mix and match the entre. Try the crispy duck moo shu style with pickled cucumber and ginger salad, or try the steamed sea bass with stir fried noodles or coconut rice. A wonderful, casual, tasty alternative to pub food. Well I love Asian cooking and usually I tend to lead towards the authentic and classical foods but I really like DIM T. This is a Dim Sum restaurant located on the restaurant lined Charlotte Street. You can create your own dish choosing from a selection of noodles, toppings and sauces. The noodle soups here are to die for. The food is relatively healthy in comparison to other restaurants. The food is a little expensive but still affordable. A great place to meet up for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. read more

Last night my partner and I went for dinner here, and after letting the waiter know I was allergic to peanuts he gave no warning of the possibility of any cross-contamination nor did he say they couldn't guarantee that my meal would not come into contact with peanuts. He said none of the items we ordered are prepared with peanuts, but he would put a note on the mains that there was an allergy (don't understand why he wouldn't put a note on the whole order). We ordered several appetizers and a couple of mains to share and after the meal I noticed my lip had started to swell; within the hour I was in A&E around the corner going into anaphylactic shock, as the only thing I am allergic to is peanuts, it was quite clear the restaurant had given me peanuts. I then spent the next 6 hours under watch after receiving a shot of epinephrine and steroids. Horrible experience from clearly untrained staff, I will be following up the restaurant in person. Unacceptable to not have been given any warning, and to make matters worse after calling the restaurant they confirmed our waiter never put a note on the order that I was allergic to peanuts and there may have been some cross-contamination with the oils or contact in the kitchen. Would not recommend to anyone who has an allergy and would like it to be taken seriously. read more

I really liked the satay - nicely grilled, crispy chicken with a great savory satay sauce with a tiny bit of heat to give it a tiny kick. Thought the dumplings were ok (but would prefer my own potstickers, or better yet, my mom's...) I ordered the tom yum soup noodles with salmon which was deliciously lemongrassy and packed with bok choy, bean sprouts, red peppers, red onions and slippery wide flat rice noodles. The last time I was here I had started doing Weight Watchers to return to a more healthy weight. I ordered a pho style soup (which is a main, not a starter) and the waitress harassed me 3 times that that wasn't enough food and that men don't like women who don't eat. I should have a starter and dessert according to her. I was speechless. The waitress then attempted to have my husband CONVINCE me to eat. Um, I wasn't not eating, and who the hell doe stye waitress think she is judging my food consumption? I left feedback on the company's website, and to be fair to them, their head office called me 3 times to talk about it and seemed to take the feedback very seriously. They told me that when they approached the waitress I described, she knew exactly she had done wrong and that she was embarrassed. Good! read more

Does exactly what it says on the tin. I like this place because the service is quick and efficient, everything is fresh and tasty. I only go there for the dim sum and order about 7 options to share. It's an excellent place to pop in for lunch in a weekday because you can eat in under an hour without getting stressed and clock watching and it's great value too. read more

Very disappointed. I used to visit the dim t's in hampstead and always really enjoyed it. However my experience at the Charlotte Street branch was not a good one. Our edamame was old and over cooked. My seafood laska was without flavour and the kung pao chicken tasted like it came out of a packet. I expected the mint and raspberry lemonade to be freshly made. Although the added fruit was fresh, the sickly sweet post mix lemonade was not. Perhaps we were unlucky. The service was good and the place looks nice enough. read more
