The vibe is a laid back old school dinner where the locals gather and everyone knows each other. The prices are great for the large portions. The coffee was really good and our waitress kept it coming. We had the greek omelette and the pancakes, both were delicious! I LOVE this place. It is, respectfully, a charming and well-worn greasy spoon diner, and I wouldn't have it any other way. If you want something fancy, or want to pay using a credit card, go someplace else and leave this place to those of us who appreciate it. I took my Daughter here years ago and saw that they had "S.O.S." on the menu, and I asked the waitress if that was what I thought it was. She said yes, and that Dillon's might be the last place in New Bedford to offer it. So, years later (I moved), I returned to try it. Healthy? Heck no. I only ate half of it and in so doing, reached my sodium intake for the day. And yes, I took the other half home because I am that guy. The guy next to me ordered the Open-face Roast Beef Sandwich with Gravy; it was an ample portion that looked ridiculously good. There are many regulars who frequent Dillon's, and it gives it a Cheers-type atmosphere - people walk in and several folks greet them by name. I love that. Old school look and feel, food is cooked on grill located in front of counter where u face a large mirror. Food prices low, there's a good menu selection (diner style) with daily specials, its not fancy, but theres no skimping on portion sizes. Its a casual atmosphere,and If your not careful you'll find yourself striking up a conversation with other patrons. Dillions offers eary birds breakfast specials,with one offering (no meat) w coffee,and home fries little over $5; given today's prices, that's hard to beat. They open early; great for eary risers, and folks whose workday is not 9 to 5. For me I like that they have a large counter with stools, and walls covered with plenty of mixed memorabilia on which ncludes pictures of the diner dating back 30 years. Insofar as changes, well, biggest one, the people posing in those aforementioned pictures, the diner itself, looks the same. Dillons changed owners in Sept of 2022, and new owner Melissa Cormier can be seen behind that big Ole grill cooking up breakfadt for Dillions patron. No major changes, to speak of, and I for one am glad they left Dillons as is; there is one exception, Melissa did extend the hours to include week-ends. I wish them all them all the best, and will on my next visit to the Whaling city, make it a point to stop in. read more

I gotta go 5 stars here. As long as you go in expecting a greasy spoon type diner, you'll be satisfied and your wallet won't be much lighter. A colleague and I were in NB for a meeting and we got there 45 minutes early. Headed to Dillons for breakfast. The service was super quick and friendly enough. We got two full breakfasts (eggs home fries toast bacon coffee) for $13. If you get there before 8 it's even cheaper. Food was good. Home fries are a little spicy. I've been to Dillons about ten times in the past couple years and I'll keep going back. Though Dillons is often quite busy, they are quick and efficient at moving people in and out of the restaurant while staying consistent with their good breakfast. Eggs, bacon and even french toast have been great, the coffee isn't bad either. This is your basic breakfast diner so you shouldn't expect anything over the top. But if you need a solid quick cheap breakfast Dillons is always the spot. read more

Super cool local vibe resonating here! I have been dying to try Dillon's as it's got stellar reviews here and it's a 4 minute walk from my boyfriend's house. He frequents the spot and treated me to brunch. The place was JAMMED at 11 AM but cleared out soon after. I had a lovely well made omelette and he had a massive portion of French Toast. Everything tastes good. It's no frills so, no real maple syrup, commercial grade OJ and bread, canned mushrooms and frozen spinach but the vibe, the super nice waitresses and the hole in the wall atmosphere in super cool historic New Bedford earns 4 stars in my book. This place is really great! I commute from Boston to New Bedford for work and I recently tried this place out for lunch - it was just as a good, if not better, as any of the lunch/diner places in Boston. Also I was super pumped by the price - $6.50 for a large Diet Coke, average-sized BLT, chips and a pickle. My sister is a huge fan of Dillon's and she requested to go there a while back when she,my mom and I went out for lunch. Immediately when I recieved the menu I was disappointed because there was nothing on there that made me say,"Yes,I want that." I wound up ordering the fish and chips and as disappointed as I was with the menu I was more disappointed with the plate set in front of me. Massive ammounts of grease. Grease on the fries. Grease on the fish. I took my fork and cut into the fish and there was grease in the fish! It was disgusting! I took maybe four bites and tossed the fork on my plate. I recently visited Dillon's and was amazed. I love the old look if the bar & stools as well as the vintage pictures on the wall. Our server was quick & attentive. Coffee always full without asking and breakfast was great. Only thing I could find wrong was the half dollar size chunk of gristle in my western omelette, luckily tho, it was at the end if my meal and not the beginning.
