I've come here a couple of times the last few days! Once on Saturday for some drinks with friends and then last night for trivia! Drinks are awesome (completely forgot to capture because so they were fantastic)! Service was great, staff bartenders super friendly. Trivia was great, won 2nd place! I was so excited to try this place for brunch. We picked up our bibs for the New Bedford half marathon and then went here immediately after. It was around 11 AM. We will probably seated by the hostess and provided menus. I asked if they had any brunch specials in the waitress let me know that there were some issues with the kitchen and that they wouldn't be serving brunch, only lunch. To say I was disappointed was an understatement. We are never around this area and I finally got to try this place and unfortunately, I opted to walk out. It was cute inside and smelled good. The drink list looked decent. Read it based on my interaction with the hostess, the waitress and how she handled the situation. Unfortunately, I didn't have a chance to try anything. read more

We returned to New Beige to try their lunch menu. We were able to sit outside and enjoy a sunny fall day. Our waitress was quick to great us and take our orders. I am reticent to give this low a rating to any restaurant, especially one that in so many ways is doing things right. The staff was friendly, albeit pretty swamped. The place looks nice and has some great outdoor seating, too. However, despite how tasty my order of calamari (which was piping hot and perfectly crunchy) as well as the scallop platter (which tasted great and was a generous portion), something in one of the dishes made me ill overnight and into today. I have come here multiple times and the pizza by far is the best thing I've had from this restaurant. I had the empanadas and was not impressed, but I had some sort of meatball and bacon barbecue pizza and it was the best pizza I have ever eaten. read more

First, the Fried Brussels Sprouts were the best I have ever eaten. They are prepared with Smoked Bacon, Maple Syrup, Chipotle Aioli. The portion size was large, which made it even better. On Tuesdays, you can get a dinner for two with a decent bottle of wine for $50. This is a really good deal if you would have ordered wine anyway. There is another $50 option if you don't want wine. For my main dish, I ordered PORTUGUESE PORK ALENTEJANA. I would have given the reasturant an overall 5* if the pork had not been overcooked. My wife had LASAGNETTE A LA BOLOGNESE, which she rated at 4*. For dessert, we had a tiramisu twinkie. It sounded interesting, but not close to a real tiramisu. read more

After a few visits, whether it be a coffee with a grab and go empanada, or dinner and cocktails with friends, from craft cocktails to entrees and service... it's a visit once sort of place. Steak tips way over cooked. Rock hard croutons in the salad. Over flavored drink recipes. When our drinks were wrong, the waitress switched them around among us to resolve the problem like we were all close as cousins. I didn't know my party that well, otherwise I wouldn't mind swapping spit, there are worse things. That moment aside, I just wonder if this place is trying to be too many things at one time? I suggest to cut the menu and drinks in half and focus on offering fewer things so those items can shine. A good location does not make a good restaurant. Sorry, New Bedford. Keep walking people. There's a new gem in town adorably named New Beige. For those of you non locals that is the affectionate nick name for the old whaling city New Bedford. As soon as you walk thru the door you get the quaint feeling of Portuguese charm. We were greeted immediately and seated at once. I was delighted to see some traditional Portuguese entrees as well American favorites. We opted for the Grilled salmon and bolognese which were 2 dishes highly recommended by our gregarious server Francesca. Oh yeah we split a Chicken Mozambique empanada which was fabulous. We even saved room to split a warm white chocolate bread pudding topped with vanilla ice cream. OMG they hit every dish out of the park. We stopped in here this afternoon for a quick bite to eat and it was amazing 10 out of 10. Our server Shawndi was super friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu items. She offered us a taste of the new beige clam chowder and it was out of this world. We also started with the hummus plate, which was unbelievable. The soft fresh naan bread was delicious and the hummus and vegetables were so fresh. We split a turkey avocado BLT on Texas toast with homemade sweet potato chips and it was delicious. They had a lot of offerings that looked and smelled wonderful. We just didn't have enough room in our bellies for anymore. I highly recommend 10 out of 10. The ambience was great. This review is directed to the new ownership group of New Beige, not to the severs/staff who were kind folks and didn't do anything wrong. I came to New Beige with a party of 3 people, at 11am on a Sunday during a holiday weekend/same day as a major parade in New Bedford. We ordered breakfast items and coffees. After around 25-30 minutes, we still hadn't been given our drinks (including water), and had no ideas when our meals would be ready. Since we were in a time crunch, we figured we'd cut our losses, let the staff know, and leave. The new ownership group seems to be highly incompetent, since they severely understaffed their restaurant for brunch on a holiday weekend. This is a horrendous first impression (for the new ownership group). read more

There are a lot of mixed reviews for New Beige, but I am one to try it for myself. unfortunately I must give the restaurant a low mark. First the good, we were able to obtain parking easily. However, I can see where parking could be a little frustrating. The service was great! The wait staff was attentive, ask us several times if we need anything. We were waited on quickly, and very friendly. Now the low points. It was extremely cold inside. It was like eating outside in fact it was warmer outside. It was to the point where it was uncomfortable. Brunch: The pictures of the food are misleading. I order eggs Benedict, the whites of the egg were runny and not fully cooked and I found an egg shell. The home fries were eh. My friend order the whaler combo. Lots of food, he did enjoy the French toast. However in his eggs he found 2 shells. We both discussed if we would come back to give it another try and we decided not to return. There is a lot of competition on that street so they really need to bring something to the table. Wow! We are so lucky to have so many terrific restaurants in our area. Definitely adding this one to the list! We had the Piri Piri shrimp, the shrimp scampi and the Roman carbonara- all were amazing. The apple bread pudding was also a big hit. My husband is vegan and I thoroughly scoped options in New Bedford as we were meeting family for a weekend getaway. New Beige was one of the very few places with a vegan dish so I made a reservation. Double checked the website day of our dinner to be sure we could be accommodated. When we got to the restaurant turns out they were "rotating" their menu which contained about 50% of the menu we viewed earlier in the day. Gone were the vegan option and other dishes we were interested in. Also of they were out of some of the remaining dishes ‍. My family enjoyed their meal but we definitely felt compromised. I had to order the scallops which at $32 could have been better. My husband had to order vegetable side dishes. We shared the hummus app which was good. Service was also very good. read more

I have been coming here for over a year now. In the beginning the service was amazing. We would be out of there in less than an hour. But the past month or so it seems like the servers are ignoring us. After being seated, the server takes about 10 minutes to come back to take our drink order. My order is taken 5-10 mins after that. I see diners be seated after my order is taken, receive their drink and food order before I even receive my food order. That was just one instance, I had another instance where I was seated before lunch, ignored once again until after lunch was being served. When I told the server I was seated before lunch was served and still had breakfast menus on the table, server stormed off throwing the menus on another table. Completely unprofessional! If the service continues this way I don't believe business will last. It's a shame, I used to praise and recommend this place a lot. Now I tell people not to even bother because of their service. Chill spot. good food. nice staff. High quality bathrooms. there is a big motorcycle in there. You can go in there with your mom and she'll tell you to pose next to it. "Like Easy Rider" she'll say. You've never seen the movie, and you sure as heck don't want to pose with a fake motorcycle while your mom takes pictures of you. I mean, you're in public after all. this little place is cute! we've been coming here since they opened and i've found that the drinks have been great every time. when i was pregnant, the manager (Ariana) even made me a custom mocktail which was absolutely divine. i highly recommend the empanadas as they are delicious. only giving this place 4 stars because the food is a bit pricey and the menu isn't huge but still has a good selection more toward the dinner side. read more

Finally got to this restaurant, after hearing a lot about it. I had the spicy shrimp appetizer as a meal with the paprika potatoes. Really tasty, nice and garlicky, as described. The dipping bread that came with it was subtly flavored- perfect. My friend had the fish and chips, which she said were excellent. We split a tasty dessert and she had coffee and I a cappuccino, which was very good. We sat outside and the service was really excellent. Glad we went and I will be back for sure! read more

I'll start by saying how excited I was to try New Beige. After seeing it downtown for a year now I figured we'd give it a try. Let me preface this by saying I don't often write negative reviews but sadly this was probably one of the worst meals my husband and I have ever had. As a couple that travels and tries food from all over, this was one of the biggest disappointments. Before I get into it I will praise our waitress, she was kind and treated us with a warm smile. She checked in on us when appropriate and made sure we had everything we needed. So thank you kindly for your service. Today we ordered the Clam Chowder, Fried Calamari, fish and chips, and Portuguese Pork Alandjana Starting with the clam chowder, the flavors were very overwhelming and truly did not match the authentic style or taste of clam chowder. With the overpowering taste of bacon and possibly another meat. Maybe it's me but usually you want to have a good base to the broth and be able to taste the clams. This was not the case and I can officially say this was the worst clam chowder we ever had. The Calamari will take us in a more positive direction though. It was light and airy. The crisp breading the sauce to dip them in though didn't pair well. They were good enough though to eat on their own with the banana peppers. Now let's get into the main course. We ordered the fish and chips. The best way we could describe the fish. The batter was mushy and the fish was not fresh it was like a frozen meal that you just microwaved at a truck stop. The cole slaw was good in my opinion that was on pare. The fries were decent as well. Moving on to our next entree. The Portuguese pork atlanja, was my biggest let down. I am 100 percent Portuguese and have traveled to the mainland while growing up in and around New Bedford my entire life. This was not sitting right. The pork wasn't chopped up properly but in giant pieces of pork with the potatoes at the bottom that were not crisped but very soggy and a terrible sauce. The clams were cooked well and tasted fine but the topping of micro greens through me off. The bread that was served across it was toasted with an olive oil drizzle with a herb that I can't quite put my finger on but that was disgusting. If anyone is going to amplify and make pork alantjana more robust don't ever cook it this way. This was the most overpriced meal we ever had but the end of it all our lunch tip included was $90. Was this place worth it absolutely not! This is not a high-end restaurant with a spectacular view. We've had amazing meals at places such as The Boat House for lunch with appetizers and entrees that were mind-blowing for the same price. Needless to say, this is not a place to brag about or recommend to others. Personally, this has made it to the top of my list for one of my worst meals ever. read more

New Beige is my absolute favorite spot in downtown New Bedford. The atmosphere is great, and the food and drinks absolutely cannot be beat. I would especially recommend visiting on a Thursday for their $10 martini menu as it has the best specialty cocktails around! Went in for breakfast. I got the crab hash and it was not good. There were sweet potato cubes with no seasoning, poached eggs with flavorless hollandaise, and just a tiny portion of unseasoned crab that was extremely fishy tasting. Would give it another try but maybe skip breakfast. read more
