    fair wage charge

Sigh..... This is going to be a difficult one. Located in South Dartmouth this quaint little restaurant is nestled away a street over from the water. Great atmosphere. Although very small and tables very close. Our waitress shimmied between our table and the table on the side of us to take their order. She was so close my husband and I just stared at each other to not look at her backside almost nestled on our table. Yikes. Menu is EXTREMELY small--- four entree choices. I ordered a Martini--- no grey goose--- no Tito's--- only Bully Boy?!?!? What the heck is that? ok how about some blue cheese stuffed olives? Nope---Only plain olives So for my 4oz $18 "Bully" Boy martini I sort felt I was the one being "Bully-ied" The food was delicious. Great presentation and flavor. Small portions for the price. The check came to the table next to us--- and since they were almost sitting on our lap they asked what is Fair Wage Charge? The credit card slip had a place for gratuity so we weren't sure what this charge was for? We learned it was sort of like an imposed for pooled tip... but also included kitchen staff. I didn't notice anything notifying the customer of this charge which just left a bad taste in my mouth despite the food being so tasty. It is always best to be transparent about untraditional charges. My advice--- if you go make sure you are not super hungry. Although you can buy bread for $8. Be prepared that alcohol choices are limited. And review the bill to determine extra gratuities in the event they continue a "fair wage charge"

What an adorable place - small cozy vibes with incredible food. Small menu makes for exquisite food. We got oysters, whipped ricotta, spicy sausage pasta and papardelle. Everything was amazing. We will be back!

We had an amazing meal here the other night. Sea bass was exceptional and the cucumber and beat salad was perfect! Highly recommend the soft serve ice cream for dessert.

This was our first time and definitely not our last! Atmosphere is great, awesome spot to watch a game. Drink prices are reasonable and service and food outstanding! Will be back soon.

Strawberry daiquiri, salted caramel pot de crème, espresso martini and chocolate cake.

Great service, wonderful ambiance and amazing food. Also be sure to save room for dessert!

Had a really great meal here last night that started out bumpy and ended on a high note. First off was a cocktail, the punch, which was truly excellent and one of the best drinks I've had in along time -- good enough (and light enough) that I got a second round. Next was a snack board for the table, which for me was a weak point. Everything on the board was either extremely sour, extremely salty or both, which paired with a very modest amount of bread made it a little tough to eat. I personally would prefer some lighter/fresher-tasting quick pickles and maybe some crackers etc to balance out the pungent stuff. Next up, my spaghetti with little necks, which I loved: it was very intensely lemony and savory, and I asked for extra bread so I could mop up the last bits of sauce. My husband got the bass, which he liked but I thought was a little under-seasoned. Finally, the chocolate pot de creme with salted caramel, which was probably the best dessert I've had in years -- completely silky with the perfect sweet/bitter/salty balance. I'd definitely come back here whenever we return to the area. Also, re the pricing and portions: I thought the portions were perfect for being able to do three courses and leave full but not sick, but I'm not a huge eater. The 20% service fee is indicated on both the menu and the receipt, so didn't come as a surprise. The prices were about on par with to slightly under what I'd expect to see back home in upstate NY.

We stopped here late night after many rounds and not enough "real" food at Play arcade. Reviewing the receipt jogged my memory. Getting old(er) is no joke! The interior is very cool! It has a great vibe! The staff is friendly, and we were seated right away. We skipped drinks and went right to the food. We had fries, tuna nachos and deviled eggs. All of the food was reasonably priced and it really hit the spot. This was a quick visit that was absolutely worthwhile! I was the first customer of the night and sat at the bar. I received a friendly greeting from the bartender and a beautiful Manhattan to start things off. The steak frites dish was tasty but I did order it medium rare - it came out medium well. The truffle fries were very tasty! I had to interupt conversations between employees a couple of times to ask for things and to engage in conversation but for the most part, attentive service although I was never asked how my meal was. It is a fun space that offers both an old time feeling and a fun, artsy vibe, too. I recommend checking it out!

It opened at 11:30 so we arrived close to that time, with no reservation. The decor was beautiful and with a fresh nautical feel. We were greeted warmly when we walked in the door and seated right away by the window with a view of the harbor and boats. Our waitress came over right away and gave us our menus - three of them. One was a regular menu, one was lunch specials, and I think the other one was for Chef's selections. I ordered the Chicken Carbonara on the lunch menu and it was amazing! The portion was just enough and was very flavorful and fresh. My friends had chicken Caesar salad and a mixed bowl (not sure about this one). I didn't take pics of our food because we all just dove right in, but I DID take a picture of our dessert. OMG it was bread pudding with fresh whipped cream and ice cream - soooo good!! The place filled up pretty quickly by the time we left it was full. The prices were reasonable and the wine was just fine! I wish I could remember the waitresses name to give her a shout out because she was a doll! Can't wait to visit again!

Review for The Sail Loft - Padanaram, MA…read more If you find yourself in Padanaram (a.k.a. the South Dartmouth secret locals don't really want you to know about), and you skip The Sail Loft? Rookie mistake. This place is the salty soul of Buzzards Bay. Perched right by the marina, it's where boat shoes meet bar stools. You'll see folks who just stepped off a sailboat rubbing elbows with couples dressed for a night in the village. No dress code. No pretension. Just pure coastal New England charm and a vibe that's always buzzing. The inside is lively, the outdoor patio catches that perfect sea breeze, and the bar? It's the heartbeat of the joint. We didn't have a reservation (whoops), and the place was packed--but the bar area saved the day. We snagged a high top by the window just as the line started snaking out the door. The bartenders? Total pros. Fast, friendly, and somehow everywhere at once, without making you feel like an afterthought. Gold star. We kicked off with a round of Apple Martinis--sweet, strong, and not here to mess around. Then came the chowder: a bowl of creamy, clammy goodness, thick enough to stand a spoon in. Potatoes, herbs, and enough richness to warm you from the inside out--June evenings by the bay aren't always balmy. But the star of the show? That lobster roll. Two options: cold and classic, or warm and buttery. We went warm--because why wouldn't you want your lobster swimming in butter? Nestled in a toasted sourdough roll and served with coleslaw and fries. And not just one or the other--both. Apparently, the kitchen was feeling generous, and we weren't about to say no. The fries were crisp on the outside, fluffy inside. The slaw? Creamy, crunchy, and perfectly chilled. Whether you're a local or just passing through, The Sail Loft is the kind of place that makes you want to linger a little longer, order another drink, and pretend the boat docked outside is yours.
