I am the certain kind of person who has a really specific palette for beer, so of course, I had to check out Dieu du Ciel. Even those with more casual interest in beer probably know that DDC makes really great drinks. And yep, they were excellent. I wasn't there to do a long session, so I got a couple tasters, one including Peche Mortal and the other a NEIPA. Two very different styles and both extremely well done. Beyond that, the space had a very old-fashioned look. Really nice wooden fixtures and a very warm, welcoming vibe. When planning my brother's bachelor party weekend in Montreal, I kept him out of the major event planning but asked if there were any high-level things he wanted to hit while we were there. He expressed interest in hitting up some breweries, so I did some research and compiled a few we could potentially visit. Brasserie Dieu du Ciel was one of them, and it just so happened we were in its vicinity after our Mile End food tour concluded. That being said, we made our way over. While I am not a beer person myself, I'll have a round or two if I'm with a group, and can appreciate a good brewery. My first impression of Dieu du Ciel was just that - the vibes were on walking in. The space is pretty large - kinda separated into semi- compartmentalized spaces with tables throughout. There's not much decor, but medium-toned woods throughout which gave it a sort of upscale feel. They offer a food menu, but we were just here for drinks. They have a really wide selection of beer - again, I'm no connoisseur, but I could tell that the selection was way more than other breweries I've been to. I ended up getting a cider for the first round and a stout for my second round - both very good. Service was great, and overall we enjoyed our time at Dieu du Ciel. Their selection and comfortable setting made it a standout brewery for me out of the ones I've visited in Montreal - I wouldn't hesitate to return. read more

Dieu du ciel is a reference as a Montreal microbrewery, they are one of the first ( 1995)in Montréal to offer different stylish delicious beers. They used to have just a small place but since last year they took the place of locksmith beside them and now they are twice as big as before. there's always an incredible choice of beers on tap ( 20 choices when i was there). WOW. i am a hater, but this brewery IMPRESSED me. first off, they are not that big, but incredibly busy, but the staff is hustling in here. they are organized and sat me right away. good service. the food smelled AMAZING. but i was here for the liquid lunch so thats what i did. unique flavors, various types of beer, and i loved all of them. loved the sours and ciders that they had. i am looking forward to coming back, this place brews some good flavors. read more

I had a friend in town visiting that likes beer so obviously, I had to take her to one of the OG spots. DDC is a classic and I've been here many times. We dropped in on a late Monday evening and the place was packed! I shouldn't have been surprised but almost all the tables were full and it was 10:00pm. Cool that you can see what's in development and what's almost ready to drink. The beers available is up on the walls. One in the front and another in the back. - 5x Degustation ($2.50 each) - we decided to share and sample five beers. My favourite was the raspberry sour wheat (#6) while my friend enjoyed the Belgian hibiscus wheat (#7). Do not waste your time walking up and down Saint-Laurent for a good bar. Dieu du Ciel has an amazing selection of beers with "tasting" sizes that are double the size of the average flight cup. My boyfriend and I sampled the aphrodisiac, hibiscus, kolsh, apricot,, and porter beers. All of them had a unique flavor of their own but I personally feel in love with the apricot! Aside from the amazing beers this bar has a romantic European feel that is like non other! It was perfect for a date night or even for a night to reunite with old friends. Great artisanal beer selection! This little place may be a little overshadowed by Siboire but it's one of the best spots in the area for real locally brewed beer. All kinds are on tap! Some of which only come in glasses, not pints, which they kindly mark on the wall. My favorite may be a strong 9.5% stout that is only in a glass, but it's really good. Their IPAs, I'm told, are some of the best around. Their drinks rotate fairly regularly and they have a really cool section glassed off where you can see the fermentation tanks, and a list They also serve food. The snacks are always on the menu but big meals are in rotation. Their soups are usually really good too, I had a ham and vegetable soup that was delightful. I'm a fan of their nachos too, always well heated and you get a lot of cheese which is annoyingly rare in bars. They also serve Bourbons and rotate a few wines. The only downsides I'd say is that the place is small, maybe a little too dimly lit, and I always struggle to read the boards which list the beers they have. But honestly, it's just nitpicking. The servers are nice, the beer is great, and I alternate between here and Siboire all the time. It's really worth checking out for artisanal beers. read more

We've all seen the elder micro houses go average, flirting with the new styles but holding onto Doppelbocks and lagers like they're the only fish in the sea while thirsty craftbois just want all IPAs. There's a middle, and I'm happy to report Dieu Du Ciel ("Good Lord!") is all up in it, capably and enjoyably. I sampled across a diverse suds array, and the beer held its own - but that's only the half, really. The ambience is friendly community meeting place, good music player, and food purveyor that you want to know about. Gord's a big fan of craft beer so we went to Dieu du Ciel for a few pints of beer. They brew some of their beers onsite but most are brewed at their other location in St. Jerome. There is quite a list to choose from. I had a couple of their Kolshes and a blonde (it tasted more like a wheat beer to me). Gord love love loved the ones he had. My wife and I were on a 5 day trip to Montreal and on our last day there we took a tour of the Lachine Canal Locks. The tour guide Phillip said he lived by Dieu du Ciel and loved the place, he did not even know I was a big craft beer fan. My wife said it was my turn to pick dinner, so it was an easy choice. Done and Done! We stopped by the hotel to change and take a shower and I could feel my salivary glands beginning to get happy. "Oh boy! The best brewpub in Montreal!? How could it be?" We took the metro and walked about a half mile to an unassuming pub with a small deck in front. It was packed when we walked in. Along the wall was a large chalk board with 20 beers that I was told rotate regularly listed with alcohol content. The place seated about 50 people and every table was packed, (They are only open from 3 PM -3 AM, so that is why I missed it the three times we walked by it earlier in the week.) It was weird, by 7, when we left the place was almost empty. I think Montreal citizens have their 2 beers to warm up, and then go to dinner. I ordered the Belgium IPA, not too assertive, just the right amount of "Belgiumy" (Clovey, spicy, lots going on) I then ordered an English IPA. came out in a 2 oz English Pint. Yummy, understated, but flavorful at the same time. Kind of like a strong ESB. good stuff. My last beer was the black IPA, it tasted like a strong Guinness. I could tell the brewer knew their beer. I could taste the love in every sip. The coffee, roasted flavor came through in full force without the nitrogen fizziness. A solid 10 beer. Big glasses (10 Oz) were $6, not bad for Montreal (Which really sucked for beer prices), and for AMAZING beer. I also ordered the tuna panini. I was expecting a gloppy tuna Americanized salad, but it was just tuna from a can, some anchovies (YUM), some spices and warmed. The only drawback for the place was it wasn't toasted well enough, but I really wasn't here for the food. Not bad, not great. My wife got the pretzel, which was small, but she really enjoyed it. Dipped in some spicy mustard, I was happy with my bite. Our waitress was nice and served us just fine, but my wife ordered a second pretzel and she forgot to put the order in. No big deal. She apologized profusely, but we again said, "No problem" It would have been great to have an English menu too, we had to ask the next table over to translate for us. Small problems for the perfect bar. Overall though, best beer bar I have been to in awhile, if not ever. Soooo good. read more

This proved to be one of my favourite spots in Montreal. On a Saturday night, the vibe was cool and comfortable even with with a bustling crowd + DJ - you can tell this is where the cool cats hang! With plenty of options for seating, we settled on a high-top table and our waiter immediately took care of us. I asked for a flight of beers to sample and what he recommended... but then realized he would do a much better job picking out what I liked based off my preference for super hoppy beers. When I made the request he responded with "I like your style!" and came back with a full flight to which I enjoyed every sip. Food wise, we opted for the nachos (pro-tip: you can have a half order which is still plenty to split for 2 peeps.) My quote for the nachos "THESE ARE IN THE TOP THREE NACHOS I've ever consumed!!!" They have all their beers on the menu here, so I loved being able to try something new and not on the mass market. It's a beer place, that's for sure! My wife and I stopped in on a rainy evening after dinner at a different spot. We each had a beer, they were tasty, but not remarkable. I did like the huge chalk menus letting you know what was on tap, that was cool. It was pretty crowded, which makes our average service even more impressive! It wasn't too expensive and the beer was fine. i don't think is would be worth coming to if you weren't already in the area, though. I first heard of Dieu du Ciel at the Iron Abbey in Horsham, PA and I had to check it out. Upon arrival we were impressed with the vibe and atmosphere as well as the indoor AND outdoor (street-side) seating. We were super impressed with the quality of the food and service! All of the beers that we enjoyed were full-flavored, tasty, and refreshing! The "pizza au bacon et piments forts" was one of the best we've ever had!! Our server, Nadege, was super friendly, bilingual, and very knowledgeable about the food and beer offerings. I saw this place mentioned in a random article about Mile End, and we decided to trek there in the 50 cm snow. So worth it. Interesting beers of all varieties - a cherry flavored sour, a coffee stout, a ginger blonde, a strong cider that tasted like champagne. We had fun sitting in the comfy bar and drinking for two hours. Good snacks too. We got a pizza which was good but very small, but then we had to get the vegetarian platter we saw someone else eating, which was amazing. Different kinds of hummus, an olive tapenade, nuts, cornichons, and hot, soft bread... For $11. Five beers + two plates of food + a good snow day activity for two tourists = $50. I had a flight of 4 beers for $10 and shared a half-portion of nachos for under $6. Dieu du Ciel is one of the highest rated breweries in Canada. Their Péché Mortel has been at the top of the Canadian beer charts for a while. While I haven't been a fan of all of their beers, their variety has kept me interested over the years. My favorites are Rosée D'Hibiscus and Aphrodisiaque. This visit also introduced me to Corinthe Mortis, a fantastic Belgian-style dubbel with a lot of raisin on the palate. I'd definitely visit again next time in Montreal to see what they have on offer. read more
