The staff were incredibly friendly, helpful with recommendations, and able to serve our group of seven quickly without making us feel rushed. The ice cream flight was definitely the way to go, especially since they had a temporary $5 Friday special, which made it even more worth it. It was the perfect way to try a variety of flavors. I also loved how they highlight their top 10 flavors with stars on the menu board, which made choosing a little easier. My favorite was the chocolate raspberry ice cream. We go to Dietsch for ice cream a couple times a month and it truly is the best! They always have fun seasonal flavors that we love trying!! (Cornbread, souther apple pie, pistachio, pumpkin, maple bacon- etc). But the regular menu ice creams are just as delicious! My favorite regular is the Strawberry cheese cake ice cream! I highly recommend getting a banana split because you can choose three flavors of ice cream and it's big enough for two or three people to share! While traveling back home to MI we visited with family in OH who planted the seed, "Are you stopping in Findlay for chocolate?" and followed their recommendation. Yelp search showed "ice cream" but their chocolates get equal spotlight in their shop. Upon entering I felt a comfortable feeling like I was returning to a favorite place though I had never been before. The ambience had subdued cheerful colors, very clean and spacious (even if you use assistive devices). Wonderful gift shop area with all sorts of items like: salt water taffy, caramel corn, popcorn (Amish I believe), housewares - mugs, decorative plates, signage, hand/ kitchen towels. On the far side of the shop is the ice cream parlor, with places to sit and enjoy. I didn't venture into that area only because we were going for dinner so I wasn't interested but there were lots of people in line and staff busily preparing their orders. The ice cream freezer looked really long- so I'm guessing they offer a Lot of flavors. While browsing 2 employees were preparing boxes of chocolates yet making sure customers were greeted and readily offering assistance or answering their questions. I prefer dark chocolate but I could tell the milk chocolate would be wonderful and ordered individual pieces from the case: maple nut clusters (MNC), pecan nougats in both dark and milk. Plus a boxed "Crunchy and Chewy" variety. When I got home I tried a dark MNC and the chocolate was so smooth and creamy it felt like I had honey in my mouth. Firm when biting into it but not hard, just delicious . the peanuts were fresh/ crunchy and maple crème added a nice touch without overpowering. The other chocolates I had were an equally luxurious moment as the first. They have ample parking in a private lot, entry has no stairs but a small lip that may require help getting over if in a wheelchair. Restroom was spacious and accessible, "1 seater" as I call them. For the number of people in ice cream area the noise level was low, even with kids! Seating could handle families of all sizes. With items I purchased I'd say prices were $$ and quite honestly, I'd pay more for their chocolates because of how delicious they are. My 1 lb Crunchy and Chewy box was $19.99. When people ask how my vacation was I always include my visit to Dietsch Brothers in my stories and highly, Highly Recommend they go. You have a basic understanding of the rivalry between the Michigan Wolverines and the Ohio State Buckeyes, and B.) You know that John H. bleeds maize and blue. I take comfort in the fact that Ohio, "cradle of coaches," also gave birth to my favorite coach, Bo Schembechler, with whom I worked back in the early '80s as an athletic department custodian. DB has a Valentine's Day tradition of packaging chocolates in heart-shaped boxes; from earliest years, I remember several of those boxes above my grandmother's piano, a reminder of familial love. Once or twice, I've reprised the family tradition by ordering a Valentine's box for my mother from the online store. During a recent visit, we purchased both ice cream and candy. The items were all tasty, a perfect late afternoon treat. Fresh, local, and DIET is part of its name - it's GOT to be good for you, right? About halfway between Ann Arbor and Columbus, DB is worth a stop for Saturday dessert, whether (in even-numbered years) you're a Wolverine heading home following a glorious victory, or (in odd-numbered years) a Buckeye beating a retreat after an ignominious defeat. The service was probably...no definitely... the worst customer service I have ever received at an ice cream shop. This or other. There were at least 4 young men behind the counter but they would only let 1 serve our group. I am not sure if he was training or they work off commission but it was odd. We had a party of 8 and only ONE young man helping us. The others literally stood there. My order was incorrect (1 out of 8 isn't bad) and when I informed him (and I was very nice about it) he argued with me a bit. One of the others finally stepped in and asked what I had expected when I ordered a hot fudge sundae with chocolate and peanut butter ice cream? I said "chocolate and peanut butter ice cream with hot fudge." In a very derogatory tone (clearly irritated) he said "well what did you get?" I said "vanilla ice cream with chocolate and peanut butter sauce." He literally was so rude I didn't even want it remade. I ate the whipped cream and threw the rest away. I'd rather waste money than argue. *also the hot fudge sundaes do not automatically come with whipped cream so be sure to ask for it. It's the best part! read more

What can I say? The Dietsch Brothers have truly earned their title of one of the best chocolatiers in America. Local, family owned, and with lots of history, the chocolate is leagues beyond everything else. They have preset boxes of mixed chocolates for purchase or you can choose a size and tell them what you would like in it (bring on the Buckeyes!). The ice cream is incredible as well. My previous boss turned me on to this place, and I will stop here when traveling home from my company's site south of Findlay to pick up about $50 worth of chocolate for various co-workers and family. The chocolate is to die for. In Ohio? Who'da thunk??! I am especially partial to their dark chocolate covered almonds and pretzels. In fact, we used the chocolate covered pretzels as our wedding favors ('Thanks for helping us tie the knot' - yeah, I know it's super cheezy, but there were NO favors left on the tables afterwards!). They also make their own caramels (delish, large pieces) and taffy. I've tried the ice cream, and, to me, it's just OK. They can (and do) run out of things, so I will call ahead and place an order to be picked up. I've heard they deliver, but I've not taken advantage of that service. read more

I grew up on Dietsch's; it seemed like all summer we had a sampler box in the freezer (does anyplace else sell those?) So yes, I'm biased, but I've had other good ice cream and this still rates in the top tier. Their seasonal flavors are usually great, and they have all the classics. Their candy is top-notch too. I always say I'll just get a cone but leave with a bag of candy and sometimes an ice cream sampler. They'll sell you a chunk of dry ice to get it home intact. This store is old-school, and I love it for that. It's changed a bit over the years, but is clearly an old place. On a recent visit to Findlay, my friend and her boyfriend insisted we pay a visit in cold March for ice cream and shakes. One can buy the candy by weight or pre-packaged in candy boxes. I sampled a chocolate-covered pretzel, and was impressed by the generous chocolate coating on the still-crunchy pretzel. I opted to buy buckeyes since we were in Buckeye territory. I also got a buckeye ice cream shake, and this shake contains miniature buckeyes. It was like a peanut butter shake with chocolate-covered peanut butter balls mixed in. As a Michigan Wolverine, I have to say this is the only form a Buckeye should come in. Dietsch Brothers was recently ranked the second best ice cream store by TripAdvisor. I enjoyed my ice cream shake, but I must admit I'm still partial to Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams, which is also an Ohio business and now has two locations in Chicago! However, Jeni's is expensive and one can get far more ice cream for their dollar at DB. DB does not allow you to sample the ice cream before purchasing it, though. I'd rather taste the ice cream at Jeni's, and pay more for a scoop than risk getting a bad flavor. Not that DB could have any bad flavors. It's a risk worth taking. I like how DB sells 16-scoop packs of ice cream. It's perfect for an ice cream party or post-marathon calorie-binging. Overall, I'd recommend DB. It was one of the highlights of my Findlay trip. read more

I think this may be the best tasting ice cream I have ever had in my life, beating out Jeni's in Columbus. Peach is one of their many seasonal flavors right now, and I ordered a scoop of that and orange pineapple. Both were bursting with flavor. Bursting. The peach flavor was so spot on, it tasted like I was biting into a ripe, juicy peach. Amazing. Also not to be missed is their orange pineapple, with small pieces of pineapple throughout the exquisitely flavored orange ice cream. All five of us ordered two different flavors each, and we all raved about how good they were. Exceptional ice cream. So why didn't I give it five stars? Sadly, we were waited on by one of the rudest young men I've encountered behind the counter at an ice cream parlor. It was obvious he would have rather been anywhere else, from his lax stance and folded arms, to the eye roll and head shake he gave behind the backs of the customers in front of us who were $.25 short. Being not far from the highway, Dietsch Bros is perfect for a stop on a road trip. Their ice cream is good quality and they are aware of all their allergens, however they do not offer samples so trying a new kind could be difficult. They have a really nice gift shop with tons of goodies! My personal favorites are the salted Carmel nuggets and the chocolate dipped pretzels.
