On our weekend away from The Bay the boyfriend and I went for a hike and were ready to eat when we were done. Stopped at Diekmans and got our lunch. The hamburger was delicious, patty that filled the bun, and great potato wedges on the side. The boyfriend had the chicken pesto sandwich and it was also delicious but would've been better on a bun or roll (it's served on sliced sourdough). No outdoor seating so be prepared to take it to go. We decided to escape the heat in our town and go to the coast so we decided on going to Bodega Bay. We were trying to find a place to have lunch and all the places there off the coast were too busy with long waits or they were too over priced. So while driving to try to find something outside of the town we saw Diekmann's sign that said they had sandwiches, burgers and pizza so we thought why not try them out and we can eat our lunch on the beach. So we ordered 3 sandwiches (2 turkey clubs and 1 buffalo chicken) while waiting for food we browsed through the store. It's also a convenient store with lots of items. So if you're missing something or forgot something at home definitely stop here because they probably have it. Once our sandwiches were done we made our way to the beach and ate them. All I can say is I'm glad we didn't go to the other places because the sandwiches were very good. The meat was perfectly sliced (thicker than deli meat but not quite dinner thick) and the produce was super fresh! So glad we stopped by there. This store has been around for years- I've gone here my entire life and it's changed a lot. Yes it's gotten cleaner and more organized BUT THE STAFF SUCKS and are really rude and cold (unlike the old owners). The food has really gone downhill and takes forever to make (count an hour for a pizza or sandwich). They price gauge because they know they have the advantage being one of the only stores in the area. There's a shorter guy that always wears a baseball cap that's a real problem- do not expect a smile or good service from him what so ever, no matter how nice you are. I came here twice during a recent stay in Bodega Bay - first for toothbrushes that I forgot to bring (oops!). They had them! $13 for 3 toothbrushes. Score 1 for Diekmann's. Second, I came for s'mores sticks because we had plans to build a bonfire. I called ahead and he said they had a variety. Indeed they did! Score 2 for Diekmann's. The shop is small but they had different brands, different types. We got ones that expanded - and had different colored handles. Super cute and small. This place is great when you are in a pinch and need something you forgot. Plus, everyone wore masks inside. Felt like they were following COVID protocols (and there weren't many people in there anyway). read more

So happy they were open for a bit on Thanksgiving day! Almost everyone was closed (unsurprisingly) but we were able to stop here for a bite to eat and snacks/drinks. Fresh pizza baking, fresh sandwiches or pre-made food in their deli. Line was kind of long but it was a holiday so no biggie. Parking lot is tiny but we found a spot. Not only do they have an incredible selection of everything you may need (or everything you forgot to bring) for you next trip to the Coast, but the guys working there are wonderfully helpful and friendly. The wine selection is impressive, as is the beer. And the pizza - was so not what we expected from a grocery/liquor store. Beautifully baked, lots of pepperoni and very tasty. And the 24" was perfect for the 4 of us (it was actually a bit too big but we managed to finish it!!). We love this area! Mainly because it is far from the madding crowds and is scenic and feels isolated. Part of that also includes not having your regular store chains that you are used to like Safeway. Diekmann's is our spot which we visit often when we are in this area. Stay away! They sell expired and overpriced food and then when you try to return it they will not refund you, only store credit and will try to get you to spend more. Also, pay close attention at check out because we were overcharged for an item. Many items don't have prices on them. Based on my experience, I wouldn't be surprised if they adjust as they see fit based on who's buying. Shady shady business. We were staying near by and needed staples that were missing from our Vrbo such as paper towels, coffee filters and dish soap. Stopped in and also got lettuce, fresh bread and fruit. Don't waste your time! Cashier very rude. Store is unclean. They dip their hands in their food sauces and taste it. Health code violation. Then they charge $1 for every dollar paid via plastic card. Do not pay attention to the bias negativity! We ordered a pizza and loved it. Pizza is subjective and everyone likes and dislikes certain qualities. However, they are vague in their descriptions as to why. We loved Diekmann's pizza because it had similar characteristics to Round Table in the dough, looks and taste. However, we found most of the toppings at Diekmann's to be superior and of better quality. The pizza was made with care and took 20 minutes from start to finish. If you want a microwaved frozen pizza, go somewhere else. The store has almost anything you would need and the prices are fair! Please stop rating businesses down because you cannot afford them. Every person on the planet has a different financial status. What a good review should reflect is the fairness of the price when being weighed with the businesses geographical location, availability, types of products being offered and competition. Just because you cannot afford something should not give you a right to negatively impact the business through your review, especially without knowing their profit and loss.
