Many people will tell you they've been coming to L.L. Bean since they were born. It's Maine's most…read morefamous store and for good reason. Not only is a flagship store iconic, but there is basically an entire L.L. Bean village. The home store, the hunting store, the café, the outlet... It truly keeps Freeport running. I was excited to visit after the years long renovation. The store still feels very much the same with some newer updates, like new features for kids, additions to the trout pond. They were also doing a vintage L.L. Bean pop-up in the front of the store where you could buy vintage L.L. Bean goods. You will not find friendlier sales associates anywhere. I also love that so many people who work here are of older age. It feels so wholesome. LL Bean used offer free returns for life, but they've updated that to one year. I can get behind that, they gotta make money somehow. When you're in Maine, it's worth a trip. Not to mention it's open 24 hours a day so you can literally go in at any time. From what I know, it's been that way forever. I heard stories about my grandfather bringing my mom when she was a little girl to feed the trout in the middle of the night. LL Bean, thank you for keeping the same charm while adding a few new cool features. Please never change, we love you.

It's in the middle of a major renovation so, there was a large tent where the women's and men's clothing was located and you couldn't get to the giant boot for a photo - but they had a temporary option set up with their boot car. Cute. I loved walking through the Home and Outdoor stores and shopping for items I've never seen in person before. This is a very nice corporate headquarters and flagship office area. It's really not an option that comes up when you Google "furniture stores"; and, well, the Yelp reviews aren't the best (... then again, a lot of the negative ones are written by people with no photo, so are they really that trustworthy?). And then we just sort of put the idea on the back burner until my partner threatened to burn our terrible, horrible, no good, very bad (and very broken) couch (... to be fair, I had also threatened to do the same thing, but he's much more calm and composed than I am, so when he said it I knew it was Go Time). We pulled the website back up, found a few couches that made the most sense size-wise for our small, strangely shaped apartment, then took a drive over to The Maine Mall. Not a single sales person talked to us; it was lovely. We found a couch we liked, and an older man by the name of Kevin sauntered over. It didn't seem like he had any expectations or agendas. We immediately liked Kevin. The Radley was our vibe (and our price range, and would fit our oddly shaped apartment), and Kevin let us reconfigure the floor model, sit on it, lounge on it, bicker about it, move it around some more, until we found a configuration we wanted. Kevin then very patiently answered our never-ending list of questions regarding their WORRYNOMORE warranty. Our couch is FANTASTIC (it's maybe not the perfect color, but we didn't feel like waiting three months for the color of our choice). It's probably one of the best pieces of furniture we've ever spent any money on: unbelievably comfortable and so well made. Also, it's cool that if we move into a bigger place we can buy additional pieces to make The Radley longer! My only piece of advice? WAIT UNTIL THERE'S A SALE. Which there often is (Christmas sale, Valentine's Day sale, Memorial Day sale... just wait until any major US holiday); you can save more than a thousand dollars in some instances! Granted having it delivered to your house costs a couple hundred (even more if you want it delivered to the room of your choice and just dropped through your front door, and EVEN MORE if you want it set up); the warranty also costs a couple hundred... it starts to add up. I have always admired AE's timeless quality, comfort, and aesthetic, and could not pass up on the deals available in AE's recent tent sale. But, this being my first purchase of AE shoes, I had very little, if any, knowledge of my foot's fit relative to a 5 last. A master shoe fitting would have been ideal, but, with the end of not disparaging, while giving praise to another, my circumstances effectively required me to take a leap of faith regarding the last's fit on my foot and principally rely upon objective criteria from a Brannock device. I enthusiastically dialed AE's Freeport Outlet. Laney answered the phone after two rings and processed my entire order within 6 minutes--impressive! I ordered a pair of 8D Walnut Strands and Black Park Avenues, and two AE aromatic cedar shoetrees. The shoes arrived in five business days from Port Washington, and the entire experience was perfect--well, except for my foot not fitting the 5 last in 8D. Feeling a bit defeated, but optimistic, I called Laney. As always, she was professional and sympathetic about my situation. She sent me a return label, took my order for two pairs of 7.5Ds, and, upon the returned shoes' arrival in Freeport, processed my exchange. Presumably the 7.5Ds would fit, right? Fast-forward three weeks later, after three orders placed, three exchanges processed, three pairs that did not fit my oddly shaped foot, and consistently exceptional service from Laney, I finally found a perfect fit--7EE. If you follow the signs within the mall it may create confusion. The store itself is filled with LOTS of Carhart clothing items and they have a great selection. Some of the staff is knowledgable about the products and what they don't carry in the store that you can get at other retail outlets. Staff seems friendly, but some do feel new to the retail industry. I was able to shop, find what I want and get it in a reasonable time. The fact they sit outside the mall likely creates the sense of less traffic since you have to exit the mall to walk into this store.
