    Signage off Route 1

My wife and decided we needed a push lawn mower and off to the internet she went in search for the best machine at the best price. Her mouse landed on the HSK 21 inch, 3 and 1 lawn mower sold at Tractor Supply for a discounted $199.00. What a deal. She ordered it on line easily and selected the Scarborough location since it was only minutes from our house. I stopped by to pick it up and I wish I could tell you the pick up went flawlessly, but I can't. Evidently, the mower was on-site , but behind me several large pallets of merchandise. This was a small 10 - 15 minute inconvenience and the manager decided to take an additional $50 off. Now that is customer service. Kudos to you, Tractor Supply! Another big plus is that when I got the mower home, assembly was very easy and just as advertised it started on the first pull.

A lot more than tractors Tractor Supply has been around for a long time. The very first store started back in 1939 out in North Dakota and they even had a mail order service before that. Back then it was really a tractor supply company. Now it is a whole lot more. Tractor Supply is a very successful company that now has over 1,200 store in 46 states. The reason for it's growing popularity becomes obvious once you go inside. It's a unique store that has so many different and cool things. Sure it still has hard core tractor stuff. All kinds of weird thingies that are probably only known to tractor people. Also welding stuff, pumps and lots of different tools for lots of different purposes. Some common but others very arcane. But the store has developed into other directions. It probably always had food and gear for cows and horse but now sells stuff for more ordinary critters like dogs, rabbits and kitties. Lots of stuff for campers and RV's and a nice section of lawn mowers and small tractors. Also fences, lots of lawn and garden and even some cool clothes and toys. This particular Tractor Supply in Scarborough is similar to the others I have been in but with perhaps a bit more of a beachy look. The employees are very cheerful, helpful, knowledgeable and just plain nice. I love every Tractor Supply I have been in. A very cool and eclectic store that has a whole lot more than just tractors.

I'm in there all the time. Friendly, helpful staff. Usually have everything I need in stock. Or they order it comes in quickly.

In the second area he lingered a few feet behind me for a long time after I found the area I needed: which I noticed, thought was strange, and I got the sense that he was trying to be intimidating. Then another costumer needed help finding something so he walked a away for less than a minute. Then he returned & continued eyeballing me. Very obvious and intrusive. After I found what I needed I walked to the front, and when I passed him I said; "You watching me like a hawk?" His reply was "yeah". I've been followed around in stores before, and I really don't like being profiled. But he admitted what he was he was doing which is accusing someone of being a thief by de facto. I'm not a thief, and have never stolen from a business. I voiced my protest to the guy at the front of the store. I really don't like leaving reviews that are negative because it affects everyone there. But when there's a employee who acts like that I'm sure the business owner would want to be aware. I'm almost 50, have never stolen from a business, and really don't like being treated like that.

I am just sorry I did not find it sooner.

Beginning roughly a week before the original delivery date I began to get conflicting email and text messages from both HD and the carrier delivering the doors, Estes. One message indicated I could call to set up a delivery time, when I did that I was referred back to Hone Depot and was told that wasn't an option. The convoluted messages went on for days. I was to be away on a scheduled vacation during the expected delivery time. For 3 days I received messages indicating delivery would be that morning, no, oops, now in the afternoon...over and over again for 3 days-and I needed someone to be there to put the doors inside. Finally, doors were delivered, so badly damaged they couldn't be installed. Back to Home Depot to make arrangements for pick up and credit. HD has the doors, 3 days later-no sign of pending refund...ooppss, the person who was supposed to enter the refund had to leave and didn't do it. Now I am faced with paying a credit card bill of nearly $5,000 when I should have been refunded or risk paying interest on that amount. Last purchase ever from HD. sHAMEFUL SERVICE ALL AROUND

Instead, I had some long haired, short grubby looking employee walk up to me while I'm scanning items, look at my stuff and say "wow this is a mess" (about the 6 boxed items I had neatly stacked for easy scanning) and proceed to start picking up and touching my items with his dirty booger fingers. Then he promptly started commanding me to scan items I'd already scanned, once he realized that I already had, he just stood there watching over me until I finished checking out. It felt pretty awkward and kind of humiliating. When I come dressed in business attire, these kinds of employees kiss my ass, when I come dressed in relaxed clothing, I get treated like a thief; granted I'm a 6'2 240lb Marine Corp combat veteran with tattoos only visible in T-shirt's. Either way, completely unacceptable way to treat customers, I certainly felt profiled, I can't imagine how this employee treats people in work clothes like.

My (very) adult female friend told me she would ask an employee to assist. She went to the counter and asked the young man (with a reddish beard) at the cash register if someone could help us with the screws. The employee called out to another man working there, saying, "This woman needs help with a screw!" Then, laughing, he added in an equally loud voice, "You know what those are, don't you?" The two men laughed, as did the woman who was working the other cash register. Other customers witnessed this exchange. It was an ugly and humiliating display. It was deeply offensive and I'm unsure why a customer (female or male) would be treated that way. There are two things, however, that I am quite sure of. First, she and I, of course, will never enter this hardware store again. Second, we will not be timid about letting our friends and acquaintances in South Portland and neighboring Cape Elizabeth know how Drillen Hardware demeans women.

Let me start by admitting that, to me, this Lowe's and this Lowe's…read more(https://www.yelp.com/biz/lowes-home-improvement-portland) are nearly the same place - in layout, in availability, in staff, etc.. And, if I go to one, I usually end up going to the other immediately afterward to see if they have what I was looking for if the other didn't, so I think I've done this mash-up to myself. Things I like about the Brighton location: 1. It's always less busy than the other location. 2. The parking lot is less chaotic as a result. 3. When "the mall" location is out of something specific (like the white ceramic allen + roth indoor planter I'd like ALL my flora friends to be in), Brighton usually has it. 4. I don't know if they're actually smaller than "the mall" location, but they've got an impressive selection of outdoor plants (flowers, herbs, veggies) in Spring/Summer. 5. I think the staff here is nicer. Things I like about both locations: 1. Using the outside register. Things I don't like about either locations: 1. They're horrible inside registers (both the self check-out and the ones with people). Things I like about Lowe's in general: I think Lowe's as a corporate brand does a good job at seasonality. Unlike Walmart, the Dollar Tree, and even Target who, for example, have their back-to-school stuff up by early July and have already transitioned completely away from anything summer/patio/gardening, Lowe's doesn't. Some of us don't have our gardens planted by Memorial Day, so I appreciate that I can still get my mint and dill "later" in the season, I guess.
