Going to another store in the area brought us to Cabela's to waste some time. If you have ever been to a Cabela's it's kinda what you'd expect just not quite as over the top as some of the extremely large locations. Anything outdoors wise and hunting/fishing it is a solid option. Likely paying more than some other avenues of buying the items, but maybe you can get lucky with a sale. They have staff as soon as you enter trying to sell you on being a member and what not, annoying but can walk past them. It was nice enough to browse for awhile and waste time. Despite not being the largest Cabela's it is still very large. Also for yourself or if you have young ones seeing the animal displays is a great reason to stop by as well. I suspect the quality here has gone down in some part back when Bass Pro Shops acquired Cabela's considering they were the biggest competition of each other. Leading to a worse deal for us the consumers. Potential to be a favorite store for some! read more

We were staying at a hotel in Scarborough. I went to Cabela's which carry high-end lines of everything you need! Cabela's is a great place to shop. I like to be in & out. I was shopping for my other 1/2 who loves Hawaiian style shirts. One of the staff was in the area, he assisted in my finding the perfect shirts & I bought him shorts plus a few other ditties. The gentleman in glass wear assisted in tightening my sunglasses & kindly cleaned them. The guy in menswear was more than helpful. The checkout pro heard a big crash when I was pulling gear out of my cart at his register. Those big candles make a thunderous noise. Oops. He was super cool & I was checked out quickly. I will return to add their names. All 3 deserve kudos for their professionalism & kind temperament. They are a +plus+ for Cabela's!! I'm sure they've some doozies which in fact happened to me at a 2nd visit. I saw a very young female in an outfit made more for "street-walking" opposed to Cabela's outfitters. Wearing a barely there outfit leaving too much hanging around with a pair of 4" pumps teetering through the aisles wasn't working. If the fit was more fitting all the more power. I've been here twice. I bought my daughters some outdoor sandals. A week later, from hiking and doing lots of walking around Montréal, Canada the sandals looked damaged. I returned them to Cabelas without the box or receipt. They couldn't have been nicer and accommodating. It turns out just the string looked damaged. In fact the sandals were fine but they replaced them regardless just to put my mind at ease. What a fine gesture of customer service. Bravo to Cabela's and best withes moving forward. Very disappointed! I went to buy 45/70 ammunition that was pictured exactly including product # price in flyer was $27.98. I was told that item would cost $41.98 on sale. they honored it for one box but told me if I wanted more boxes I would have to pay the higher price. Cabela's is what it is. I personally only go there when I need to purchase a gun. Most recently I was pleasantly surprised when the gun salesman didn't make me feel like an idiot when deciding between the numerous options. My husband and I always have a great experience at Cabelas but I wanted to commend them for what they put on for the kids during the month of December! They have a beautiful North Pole set up with Santa and they give a free photo but do offer packages for a small fee for those who want more than one picture. Cabela's in Scarborough opened up a couple weeks ago. This 130,000 sf superstore is a paradise for outdoors, hunting and camping enthusiasts! There were grand opening specials and events for the first two weeks. I finally made it here and got here early this morning to be one of the first 250 customers through the doors to get a free duffel bag. Woo-hoo! I love the large moose statue out front! The line to get in was very long stretching across the massive parking lot and they opened the doors six minutes early. Though this Cabela's is one of their smaller stores, I was still impressed with the great selection of outdoor gear and supplies at this superstore with several departments all on one level including: camping, apparel, camo gear, hunting, auto accessories, electronics, gun gallery, archery, knives, binoculars, fishing, marine, footwear, food, souvenirs and more. There were a lots of items on sale. Be sure to check out the Bargain Cave in back of the store for discounted merchandise. Cabela's is also very fun place to visit too with lots of stuffed game displays (elk, moose, bear, deer, & others) throughout the store including the large Conservation Mountain in the center of the store. There's also an aquarium (not much fish yet), a shooting gallery for the kids, archery range, and hunting video games. There were also demonstations on fishing and hunting put on by Maine organizations. Hungry? Well, Cabela's has a fresh fudge counter and cafe which offers salads, chili, cold drinks, Seattle's Best Coffee, desserts, and sandwiches including boar and elk (priced at $7.99 each). Today, I shopped for some pants and jacket and also checked out the good selection of binoculars and hiking boots. I'll definitely be back here soon until Cabela's builds another store in Hooksett, NH someday, close to where I live. If the Hooksett store does not materialize, they could build the store in Raymond, NH with plenty of land at NH Route 101 Exit 4. Big box stores typically stress me out, but this store doesn't for some reason. Maybe because it is never really crowded when I am here, which is usually during the weekday. In any event, I feel like I can run in an out for things or I can casually browse and look at things without feeling like customers are rushing around me or competing for the same items. The selection of products is great! I love the fact they carry an extensive Keen shoe selection. The only time I was not satisfied with selection was when I was looking for particular style of sunglasses and unfortunately they did not have what I was looking for. I have been able to shop for casual clothes, gifts, candy...candy....candy :) The staff members have been great on every occasion I have interacted with them. I haven't needed assistance on most occasions, but the representatives at the registers are very nice and the woman at the candy counter was super friendly and helpful. She educated us on the free refill on soda policy and in addition happily gave me as many samples of fudge I wanted to try. Their maple fudge, which the woman made, was amazing! Not overly sweet, but still had a strong maple flavor. The store is visually appealing. I love walking by the store's center display. I always look to see if anything has changed...nothing yet. I love the location! SOOO easy to get to from the Turnpike, set at the back of the shopping center. PLENTY of parking, although it is 1-way angled, which customers disregard which can cause it to be chaotic. The POS system they use is SLOW...so be prepared to wait in a line, regardless of when you go. Another interesting experience, we saw pants on sale online, but when we got to the display there was no indication it was on sale. Had I not mentioned it, it would have rang up at full price. After you tell them, they have to look it up in the system and then apply the sale price. :/ Overall a good experience. read more

A great outdoor gear store with a large selection. Prices are a little steep but you will be hard pressed to find such a selection of firearms, archery and fishing gear in any other store. It should be a requirement that when you come to Portland you have to visit Cabela's at least once. Most of my experiences at Cabela's are all the same when it comes to layout, content and function. The Cabela's in Scarborough matches the rest of all of the other ones I have been to but there are a lot of really cool pieces that make it home for us Mainers. The Aquarium in the back right of the store is a really cool part to take your kids to so they can see all of the different types of fish that are roaming our freshwater lakes all around the state. Then in the middle of the store, the mountain is really cool to see all of the different animals that are out there from elk to turkey to rattlesnakes ;) The other piece that I found here when I brought my family was the personable and welcoming personalities throughout the store. Associates were always asking if I needed help with anything and showing my son some of the cool things for kids to see at the store. They had a huge selection of guns and safes for those guns (although I am definitely not a gun kinda guy) it was pretty cool to talk about that safety piece and the seriousness of it with my son. First time I've ever stopped at this Cabela's, we needed to pick up 3 day out-of-state fishing licenses for our long weekend. The woman helping us with our licenses in Customer Service was very friendly. Of course, since we were here, had to pick up some fishing stuff. I like the layout of this Cabela's better than the one in East Hartford -- everything on one floor instead of two. I was standing at the Gun counter waiting my turn to ask about a specific make. A young guy looked at me and then went to a man closest to him asking if he needed help. Ok, I will wait. Then he goes to help another associate. Ok, I will continue to wait. Then he takes someone who just walked up to the counter, walks by me and doesn't even acknowledge my existence. They are busy, I get it however to not even acknowledge me is poor service. Then another associate walks behind the counter and helps the closest man. Moral of this story is that Cabela's doesn't think women over 150 lbs deserve to be treated like a man. Never ever will I give that place my money. I dropped all of my stuff and left in tears. Don't fall off your chair/couch/stool/driver's seat ......ya, I went (but you already know it wasnt my idea). Don't judge- it was just slightly entertaining. Forget Homeless Depot! This is a man's paradise! (to my gender: plz refrain from sending messages attempting to convince me that you actually love shopping here. Thanks in advance for sparing me the pain.) This place offers Soup to nuts for doing stuff one digs such as fishing, hunting (yikes), shooting stuff (frightening), kayaking (yah!), hiking, mountain climbing (ouch) camping, cooking in the wild, & just about anything else one could do outdoors that I may not have listed. And they have the fashionably appropriate "gear" one requires to look authentic while shooting something or scaling a mountain or baiting a hook or whatever.... Anyway, they also have stuff to train your innocent beloved pet to hunt & kill stuff or just toys to play w your pet should they chose not to participate in your chosen recreation/"sport". While your significant other is sleuthing out that random flashlight or paintball outfit, you can retire to the coffee & fudge cafe or perhaps stroll the candle or dry goods section for say dehydrated chili in a box. read more

Staff is super helpful. Was given many choices for my needs by a very helpful and knowledgable staff. Products are well made and quality items. I popped by today to grab some new slippers for my wife...the first box I brought to the register had a size 7 and a size 8 mixed together. After waiting 10 minutes or so the shoe associate showed up at the register with a pair of size 7s in a beat up box with no packaging or inserts that were clearly a previously worn store return. The shoe associate said to just switch boxes as hers was ripped up and the bar code was ripped off...The knitting was piled and discolored. The whites were yellowed. They looked like they had been worn in the mud, washed and returned. Even the cashier agreed they looked used...I was informed by your shoe associate that I didnt know what I was talking about and they must have come from the factory in that condition, and she didnt see the big deal... Great place to stop in on a rainy afternoon. I spent way more time than I thought I would touring around. I picked up 2 great chairs with side tables that have straight backs, light and easy to carry for a reasonable price. I've gotten lots of comments on them already. The place is big and has lots of fun things to pick from. There is also a clearance room in the back corner. Camping, fishing, hunting, BBQ, clothes, back packs....and so much more. DO NOT get sucked into or enticed to fill out a credit application for a discount off your purchase. They got me on Saturday with a $50 offer, after I declined on their first 3 offers. I gave in and filled out the application, it instantly dropped my credit score 6 points and I wasn't approved, my credit score is in the mid 700's so its not that. So they wasted 20 minutes of my time, dropped my credit score and still didn't give me the discount. read more

This Cabelas now Bass Pro shop sold nice hunting boot 14 inches high waterproof I think they were called whitetail hunter well I bought a pair when it was Cabelas they leaked so I exchanged them now bass pro shop the eyehooks were made out of die cast white metal so cheaply done I broke them walking through the woods now I go to exchange them because all the hooks for laces are broke now they dont make any hunting boot that's worth bringing home. I'm not typically one to rant, but Cabela's customer service sucked the big one tonight. I went in to return a package of arrows that I bought for my daughter last weekend that were toI short for her bow. Halfway down, I realized that I forgot my receipt at home. Didn't think it was a big deal since I just wanted to exchange for a longer set and have done this plenty in the past. Customer service lady says can't do anything without a receipt. I asked if she could look up the transaction. Since I used my Cabela Club visa I assumed this wouldn't be a problem. Nope! I protest a little and she says she can give me store credit, but only at the lowest sale price it has ever been. I say that isn't very convenient, and she says I should remember my receipt next time. People who know me know that I don't like to be a jerk to people, so I just fake smile and take my store credit, for half of what I paid last weekend. I'm a Cabela's Club Silver member, and have been for as long as the store has been in Scarborough, but I am canceling my card and hopefully never shopping there again. I have never had a less than great experience there before. Nice job Cabela's for losing a loyal customer over $7. Bass Pro Shops looks good on you. read more

Last night I went back to the store to have the security tag taken off and the guy at the customer service desk was rude and said they don't take them off without a receipt. Ok, so - I enjoy going to this store and wandering around looking at the different outdoor gear that is available. The store has a wide selection of clothing, firearms, camping gear, fishing gear, etc, etc... The store is clean and the center display of taxidermy is pretty cool - a favorite of my 6-year old grandson. Here's the rub... lately they have been out of stock on just about everything that I wanted to buy. I'm a competitive pistol shooter and, by necessity, I reload my own ammo. I'm not fancy and tend to stick to the common components. My last 4 visits have turned up empty because the shelves were empty. If you want to spend a thousand bucks on a gun, they're in stock. If you want to spend $60 on common caliber reloading components, good luck. In addition, you have to be a skilled hunter to find any help on the floor of the store... Lots of folks that seem to be wandering around but no one who seems to be available to help... I keep going back because it's convenient but it's getting more frustrating every time. Kittery Trading Post is a bit longer drive but they tend to have what I need in stock. read more

I like Cabela's because they have a huge selection of outdoor equipment. They tend to be on the pricier side though. You can get most things cheaper online. If the prices were a little more competitive I would have given it an additional star. Sometimes you don't want to wait though and this store will probably have what you are looking for. Loving it... I know, that's several outdoor stores I've been to in less than a week! Love coming here... I call it the Walmart of the Outdoors. Prices aren't bad but, product is not as good as LL Bean, EMS, etc. I can get a moose toilet paper holder here! (very highly desired item, to the point LL Bean does not carry them) Need moose sheets, they got that too... they got a great throw in the shape of a moose pelt that I would love to hang on my wall (hint hint, Christmas gift) This a great place for the kids. Fish and stuffed game to view... one of the few places that has a skunk that doesn't make a stink! Ample parking. And there are some amenities to those with RVs and critters in tow. There is a horse corral so they can stretch there legs and a kennel for the mutt. But I will say the Collie I saw there, was not happy and wanted out! Poor thing was barking up a storm! The only disappointment was the snack bar didn't have the snack I wanted. Plenty of fudge but that's not what I wanted... The staff was very friendly, one was right on the ball when I asked him about... something. He even suggested an alternative. I had my virgin Cabela's experience at this location. Prices are not the cheapest but selection reigns supreme. Lots of equipment and supplies as well as vast selection of clothing. Lots of taxidermy in the store to look at which is cool. I'm a fan of the store but I had a problem with the cashier on my first visit.
